The experiences show that home made canine treats that remain in a dog treat jar situated on your counter stand the test of time a lot longer in a dry and cool surroundings than one, which is stay in humid and scorching environment.

Another aspect in storing is the light as your dog treats adversary. Of course, I actually mean the direct shiny daylight and warmth as your enemies. My best advice could be to store your do-it-yourself dog treats in a cool and darkish as well as a dry place.

The answer you’re dreamed about

news-in-dog-breeding-cava-poo-chon An American couple, Linda and Steve Rogers are dealing with family dog breeding (like Goldendoodle) in Timshell Farm, in Pine, Arizona. The couple also is dealing with bringing up Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies. And the developing of the latest fashion dog the Cava-Poo-Chon, is also due to them.

As they say, their pooches will satisfy your above dreams and more. These doggies are the result of a triple mixing. The mother of them was a mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise (in 50 – 50 %), called Cavachon. A Miniature Poodle was taking charge of the father’s duty. And you can read the followings on their website:

“CAVA-POO-CHONS! Happy, friendly dispositions;
High intelligence;
Lower-shedding coats;
Strong health and longevity from triple-cross hybrid vigor; and
The “Teddy Bear” look (wide face, shorter nose, large eyes, and round heads)”

According to experts, the new puppy can be concurrence for previous popular dog breeds like the Maltese or the Yorkie. The increased interest in them is mirroring in that already 58 families has been returned to buying a second Cava-Poo-Choon in addition to the existing one.

According to Linda Rogers, these doggies combine the best features of their ancestors. Consequently, they might reach their twenty years of age as well. You have the choosing options among coat type and color of Cava-Poo-Chons. Puppy weigh is between teen and eighteen pounds generally.

cava-poo-chon-puppyThe proud breeder also says that their dogs are in demand for hospitals and nursing homes. Already twelve of their doggies are serving as therapy dogs in that places. The Cava-Poo-chon, however, has not come cheap: usually a puppy costs from $ 2275. Anyway, you may sign up for a waiting list against a $ 300 deposit.

You may find more about this dog breed on their website: www.timshellfarm.com

Different Dog Breeding Opinions

“There’s always been a market for these forever-ish young dogs,” is the opinion of Steve Haynes. He is a veteran trainer in Fidelio Dog Works Austin, Texas. He is dealing with first-generation Cava-Poo-Chons contains 50 species. He added: “Until recently, specialized dogs like miniature Yorkies and miniature Maltese were the go-to dogs.”

—–

Lisa Peterson, the spokeswoman of the American Kennel Club stated reasons why AKC doesn’t admit the Cava-Poo-Chon. “AKC does not recognize cross-bred or mixed breed dogs as official breeds. These dogs are the product of two purebred parents of different breeds, resulting in a litter of mixed breed puppies, not a new breed, according to our requirements.”

—–

As for a ‘not an expert’ dog keeper long time, I know how much commitment is necessary to do quality dog breeding. So I accept the work the Rogers family invested into their ‘products’. However, let me to say we only know the present achievements.

Any dog crosses are based on the assumption the result will be what we expect. I experienced that you need to have years to develop your envisioned result and avoid the ‘puppy mill’ marker simultaneously. Speaking carefully, time will tell if the new breed fulfills the expectation related longer life, for example.

P.S.: How about you? How do you follow the dog breeding trends? What is your opinion about this now become fashionable new dog type? I’m curious for your comment, please, share it!

Thank you,

Alex

Meet the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel2

Previously, I wrote about the interesting history of the Cavaliers. Now it will take place their appearance, personality, health considerations and my experiences gained with them. Let’s go!

The Look of This Doggie

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is small in stature with lovely eyes along with mild expression. He has been padding underneath their eyes that give him the specially gentle physical appearance to their face.

This animal possesses lengthy ears, silky and typically wavy coats. And they are occurred in shades of stable ruby, Blenheim, black and tan, and tricolor. That’s chestnut throughout the white background.

In addition, they sport feathering onto their chest, feet and legs. Its tail is usually docked. However, because of law changing in Britain that has been much less frequent, by mainly household dogs.

As for its size, he stands from twelve to thirteen inches at shoulder height. Their weights are between thirteen and eighteen pounds. Males are heavier; they might reach the 25 pounds in weight sometimes.

Regarding their body, they’re barely longer than tall; however, some could be more square in proportion.

I need to mention here the grooming requirements. Considering its coat, it might seem like labor intensive, yet this breed is quite easy to upkeep. You need to brush him a couple of occasions weekly to get rid of unfastened hair. With that activity, you prevent tangles developing and maintain the shining of its coat.

As for bathing, you only have to bathe this animal as essential. However, energetic Cavaliers would require extra frequent washing than the lazier. Trimming isn’t necessary, though some dog owners like to trim the toes for the cleanness sake.

These canines require a reasonable amount of the train daily. You can fulfil that with a few brief strolling or possibly a romp within your yard. This is a dog breed that isn’t supposed to reside outside.

Personality

The Cavalier currently deserves its distinguished name. He’s that kind of small dog that likes if you carry him along with you everywhere. He thank you for this with exemplary conduct, assuming they have received some education. However, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is easy to teach.

cavalier-king-charles-spaniel-as-santaThat’s because one of his most striking features is the impart the like. He makes an effort to cheer us up and hit on us, so this doggie is very welcome and highly easy to learn. It’s being entertained, if he can do something for us. Thus, he is involved in everything with great venturing willingness.

This is a really old-school Prince, whom few can resist. With his open nature, radiated fun and cute look, he wins not only the family, but also friends and even strangers’ heart. Whether it’s child or an animal, the Cavalier is friendly with everybody.

He loves the harmonious co-existence; therefore, he’s the ideal family dog. It’s spirited and fearless, but turns with positive orientation toward all living things. So if it is little, if large, if a stranger or if familiar, he greets everyone friendly.

Health Information

The life timeframe of the Cavaliers may vary between eight on up to fifteen years. The main health issues that could be emerging are CHD, insufficiency in mitral valve, and syringomyelia. Minor wholesome problems embrace patellar luxation and entropion.

WARNING! You must to check the lengthy ears of the Cavalier Spaniel every week for symptoms of infection or redness. Your vet can suggest a solution to apply weekly that can preserve dangerous micro organism at bay. Tooth brushing weekly will help keep gums wholesome and stop unpleasant breath from developing.

My Experiences With Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

I was fortunate enough to collect experiences on a few species of this breed before. When I worked in a local shelter I fostered two of them. They were very grateful for care and attention I provided them. One of the twins was homeless, equipped with parvo. But, it has been treated by our vet.

The other was an unvaccinated dog rescued from a bad house. I cured her nasty open wound filled with exudate at home with Betadine. After a few treatments the wound almost disappeared.

I paid special attention to their ears because of their sensitivity. The ears of nine from ten Cavaliers might be inflamed at least once in their lifetime, particularly if you overlooked it. But, it can be treated easily.

As for exercising, they were hilarious at walking too. And they also endured pretty well the longer trips as well. I kept odd; however, that of one of my friends’ Cavalier didn’t require walking. However, it’s true that he didn’t have enough time.

P.S.: Are you familiar with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed? Or maybe, there is one of them in your house? Tell me about your common everyday life, how you are enjoying each other. Thank You!

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

How to Survive Dog Adolescence Period?2

Hi again!

In the previous part of this article, I discussed why is important to pay attention to the dog adolescence period. I described the emerging difficulties we may face and their reasons. I also mentioned how this process takes place in humans, wolves and dogs’ packs similarly. I promised to talk over a phenomenon and a mistake too. Let’s begin with a possibly unprecedented (or not so) thing.

Is My Adolescent Dog Sex Obsessed?

This is a question I received from a young couple. Her 8 months old Beagle began to carry out mating movements on their legs. At first, it was fun but by now has become an annoying situation. But what is it all about?

Quite a few owners will meet first time with the mating movements of their doggie in this era. And this thing is appearing the same way with not only males but females as well. Your pet dog may choose almost anything as ” associate ” for himself.

He or she may starting from a variety of stuffed animals to the table leg and your sofa. You know what? I would not worry about that dog behavior; that’s quite natural. It shouldn’t be confused with an 8-10-month dog ‘s mating movements for the same behavior of an adult dog.

The adolescent dogs only “exercise” and prepare for the future mating ritual. But, in the case of the full-grown dog does that, that’s one of the determinative signs of dominance. I leave him or her to indulge him-/ herself in that activity to some extent.

But, if he or she tests his or her new ability on me or other people as well as other dogs, that’s another question. In that situation, there is no tolerance at all. If that’s happening, I strongly tell him or her NO and grab the pooch at its neck skin, lift up and shake it.

If that happened during walking in dog park, I use to yank its leash vigorously but not roughly. From that, the dog will understand he doesn’t do a right thing at the time.

Training Adolescent Dog

training-adolescent-dogFor the aspect of training this period is something many dog owners overlooked. That’s a mistake! I observed the majority of dog owners can commit most errors here. Everything goes smoother for you if the relationship between you, and your canine is 100%. When I do training I pay attention to give him the time totally that I intended.

I’m not on the phone, don’t contemplate what will be for lunch, and what errands wait for me further that day. I have long since realized that the dog detects on end of the leash what I do. Many owners take away the dog’s appetite for joint work at this age – due to such mistakes.

When you get to the point that you can to deal with your dog daily 15 – 20 minutes (except walking), then you can start the training. By this time, he can pay attention longer than a puppy. However, you need to keep in mind not over forcing him. Furthermore, you shouldn’t expect anything from him, for which he is not capable yet.

You must reward your favorite for every task done well. That will help him not to lose his interests in learning. As you can see his attention begin to wander or become tired, stop the training immediately (but in any case, finish the given task)! And release him with a little playing or walking.

I cannot emphasize enough the principle of gradualism and the consistency! If I realize that he has forgotten something that he knew before I’m not panicked. That is also one of his first attempts to find out the end of my patience.

Being nervous in that situation is not practical at all. I simply go back one grade and start over the education again. But, you should never let your dog to “win.” If he is not in any way willing to perform the task, even though he could have used, you can do two things.

If you perceive that the 15 – 20-minute exercise is too long to him, you can divide that two or three parts. But, if the case is that he doesn’t perform because he is lazy, you simply compel him with proper motivation.

That’s because if you leave him not to perform the task, your work to date will be lost. He will continue not to respond to your command, because the last time he also hadn’t to do that task.

Reward – Discipline

It is important that these two things firmly and clearly distinct from each other. If you get angry, for some reason, then give it your dog to know that fact without smile and high-pitched voice. I experienced that if one take it lightly the dog will not take that person seriously.

If your dog does something that you don’t like (for example, he growls toward the other dogs or barks if he wants to achieve something or possible chew on the leash, etc.), then it should be prohibited immediately and decisively, in a low voice.

You need to be angry seriously with the behavior in question. That’s because your dog feels if it just an act of scolding and there is no real disapproval behind. On the other hand, when he or she does things that you may expect in their adulthood, that’s different.

I mean he comes back when called, sits on the kerb on his own, drops what’s in his mouth for command. In that situations, you need to reward him enthusiastically, praising him a high voice. You need to caress him with treats that he should distinguish easier what is good and what is not.

Bottom line

My friend, do not panic, adolescence can quickly pass over your dog. The point in the education is the consistency and sturdiness. If you are bound by these principles, then a few months later, everyone admires you what kind of young, but smart is your dog! I know this feeling, and that’s available to you as well.

P.S.: Did you find this article helpful? If yes, please share it with your friends, so they can benefit from reading. If you find it unavailing, please tell your enemies about it. Thank You!

How to Survive Dog Adolescence Period?1

It would be incorrect from my part if I’d say the dog teenage period is your answer to your dream. Bringing up a puppy involves a lot of hassles, since the beginning. Similarly, as a small child – your pup almost just eats, sleeps and defecates. Then, you need to be prepared for the constant puppy gnawing and “adolescent” profligacy, too.

Of course, the time flies over the dogs – either quickly or slowly – like as humans. Every puppy reaches adolescence; he is already not a pup but also isn’t an adult. Adolescence is a huge change in not only people’s life, but in dogs developing as well. The irresistible puppy dog has suddenly started to grow on us and becomes a devil from the little angel almost without transition.

Why Now Exactly?

The question is appropriate. Namely, the first six – teen month is perhaps the most important milestone in dog life. That’s depending on breed’s specificity, the earliest date usually associated with the small stature dogs. This cycle is called the period of imprinting.

surviving-dog-adolescenceHe lived as “outside of ranking in the flock” to this time point. You may know, that among the wolves – and so the dogs – the puppies aren’t included in the pack hierarchy. And, there is much more allowed for these youngsters.

They don’t have to fight for the food, for position, for respect of other flock members. However, they have to start to live a hard adult-life after puberty. Which is a natural consequence of the first trial and error with a pack for their position.

From this period onward they aren’t surrounded with puppies and adults. The peers may be the same, but those are males and females who are couples and rivals simultaneously. The youngsters need to learn the correct behavior toward their own and to the opposite sex. The game suddenly is no longer just a play, but a measure of the force of others.

Furthermore, it’s the time to attempt to select the right pair for them as well. And after all of these, are there someone who says that dogs don’t like us humans? 😉

Forming of Dog-Owner Relationship

We can remember back to our kids’ teenage changes. Depending on our temperament and genes, we can think back how much trouble these changes caused for us in our parents-kids relation. Just think about, how much patience is necessary besides rules for harmonious common living.

The child must learn that there is a responsibility for our actions. They also need to learn where their place is in your family, where are the limits and to how far they can go? These things are definitely taking place, but it matters how; easily, or with many hassles.

You got it? Then you’ll understand; the same takes place also for wolves and dogs. This era is perhaps the most important period of the dog and owner relationship formation and further existence as well. The youngster’s behavior changes suddenly, almost from one day to the next.

Not so experienced dog owners are standing at a loss to know why the behavior of their dogs changed to such an extent quickly and often  radically. Because what is happening? A fierce, often aggressive-looking behavior erupts suddenly from a meek, uncertain puppy.

This can be measured in terms of the fact that the task – has been well-practiced before – as if had been cleared from the dog’s hard drive. The dogs suddenly become casual deaf for your command when they are busy with other, for them is more important thing.

And if you do not pay attention to these signals, later will be much harder to rectify them. So the time has come for you to regulate your adolescent dog (if this has not happened before).

Let’s Be Consistent

Consistency is all over! If we said in connections with puppies that consistency is important, then in an adolescent dog’s life this is essential and crucial. This era will decide ultimately what is allowed and what is not, where is their place in the pack and who does what?

We often fall into the mistake to overlook something once in that period of our dog. Namely, we don’t think that it will be 100 times harder to fix that than in their puppy-hood. Any behavior that we don’t like, it must be considered disrespectful just as in the case of teenage kids, and we must correct immediately.

Let’s think about what that behavior is that a flock can tolerate and what it will not allow. So we need to praise, and discipline measured to that extent. Just be strong. If you prohibited something a nine occasion, you do not allow it at tenth time, even you have labored in it.

Conclusion

This period does not last long. However, it requires the more energy and stamina from your part, but it’s worth it. If the hierarchy is formed properly now, then we can make our dog to approve that we are the pack leader. Then an aggression or even unmanageable fear – which reflect back the inadequate control – generally will not occur in the future.

Next time I’ll deal with a particular phenomenon which is typical for this age, and a mistake most owners tend to commit.

So long …

Teaching Off Command to Your Dog

Do you remember how cute it was when your puppy first started jumping up on you? He probably wasn’t very big and even though it was bad manners, you figured it couldn’t hurt anything, right? Now that cute puppy is 85 pounds of brawn and muscle and when he jumps up on you it’s not so cute anymore! That’s why your dog needs to learn the “Off” command.

The self-management  is basically an important ability your doggie must learn. And it will be a method that’s needed a couple of times daily. Your canines are anticipated to hold back themselves from jumping up on you or your guests. Now I’m discussing about this.

How to Begin

teaching-off command-stop-jumping-up-on-youTo teaching your pet the “Off” command isn’t contain difficulty. You’re basically educate your pooch not to lifting his feet off the floor. He will realize that keeping his paws down the ground resulting in getting praise and treats. However, if he jumps up you or his paws leave the ground, then you’ll ignore him.

You can begin the process by placing your favorite in a scenario where he is enticed to leap up on you. That may be similar to once you stroll through your home door. Your family dog might be joyful to perceive you walk throughout the door. Thus, you come through your door and look at him out of the corner of your eye how your animal reacts.

If he leaps up on you tell him the “Off” command and turn your back toward him. You can praise him and give him a treat in case your favorite’s paws are on the ground afresh. Of course, you need to practice this session several times. If that goes without any problem, you can make it a bit difficult for your canine.

Raise the Bar

I’m doing it in such a way that I set the dog in front of some temptation. I stimulate him with some tasty food in my fist to jump up nearly and talking a gladsome tone. However, once the dog in question begins to jump up then the “Off” command is said.

In the moment the dog is getting the sound of the “Off” command I’m going ahead and add the “Sit” command over the process. So, when I give the “Off” command the “Sit” command follows that this way:  “OFF” and after that “SIT.”  And your dog must keep all his four paws on the ground and sit right away.

Of course, this isn’t going to go that way within five minutes. However, this is a proven method and will go flawlessly with enough practice. The “Off” command is an effective order to application for attaining your pet to place his paws on the floor.

The reason is that it could’t be mistaken for every other order. In the event you say your canine “Down” or “Get Down,” of course your dog might intermix it using the “Lie Down” or “Down” order.

Namely, you don’t want your dog to lie down when you are trying to tell him to stop jumping up on you. The “Off” command can also be used to tell your dog to get off another person if s/he has jumped up on them.

Using “Off” In Other Situation

It can furthermore be used if your dog is putting his paws up on a kitchen counter. Or, if he is popped up in your favorite couch when he’s not allowed to do that. This “Off” command may also work outstandingly well to convey your dog to remove his paws from another person if s/he has jumped upon them.

It will take practice in each of these situations for your dog to know what you want. It may occur that your dog might not always connect “Off” with your wanted action. Please, he isn’t a human so don’t be offended with your animal when he doesn’t create the association initially you utilize command in unknown scenario.

Both, you and your canine ought to consider the “Off” command like “knock it off!” order. And it’ll assist you and your partner within your teaching. Don’t forget to praise and reward your pet for fare through if you get requested him to perform whatever thing.

Even though you are moderating his conduct, he continues to be studying, and he must be awarded when performs well.

teaching-off-command-halt-chew-baby-toy(Anyway, the “Off” command is also useful when your animal is intended to pick up a forbidden thing when seems like nearly reach. I think examples such as: Caroline’s stuffed plush toy animal, a lifeless bird, little Jimmy’s last child soother, poultry bone, dog faeces and so on.)

Of course, you might set up your training in another way from what you read above. Namely, these are only directions and instance simply meant being a method purely. Needless to say your intention would be to ensure the simplest possible way your dog grasp “Off” properly.

P.S.: How did you teach the “Off” command to your dog? Are you satisfied with the results? Share your story in the comments. Thank You!

Which Party Gets the Dog in Divorce?

A divorce is a very tricky matter, not just for the people involved, but also for the family dog. The process unavoidably bring the sharing of material goods two people possess. What both of you bring into the connection from the start is divided now. This is natural when it comes to properties. However, do you know what happens whenever you possess a dog collectively?

Determining what you should do with a household pet that you just owned with your ex together generally is a tough and emotive combat. Even though it’s quite simple to state that you’d like to get your Poodle yourself, it’s better to keep in mind your canine’s interest when arbitrating its post-splitting destiny.

Every circumstance is different when it comes to separating a dog from someone or giving to. There are cases every day in which these matters are subject to judgment before the court. Fortunately, there are several ways of proceeding. Now I just pronounce these as I heard from a divorce judge the other day.

If a Dog Is a Gift

Assuming that the dog has not been included among the assets to be divided by the divorcing couple. Then the first way of looking at things is based on the simple facts of the law: who gave what to whom? If someone gave a dog to the husband, but he gave the dog to the wife, whose dog is it?

which-party-gets-the-dog-in-divorceIn a case like this, the law would determine that the dog belongs to the wife because the husband gave it to her as a gift. A court could also decide to look at a case from the point of view of what was in the best interests of the dog.

What’s the Dog’s Interest?

It may happen that Mrs. X actually owned the dog but the animal was clearly devoted to Mr. X. In this case, the court could decide to award the dog to Mr. X based on the bond between the dog and Mr. X.

An evolving body of law, however, has been deciding who gets the dog based on a different standard. They have been asking, “Who cares for the dog?”  In other words, who is the person who feeds the dog, bathes the dog, and takes the dog to the vet?

This may be how the court determines what is in the true best interest of the dog. They can award the dog to the person who has shown that they are capable of providing care for the dog and bear the costs.

Other Considerations

So, deciding who gets the dog is not a black and white matter in courts. It will depend on which standard a court decides to use. It may depend on who wants the dog more. It may depend on negotiations and bargaining behind the scenes.

What effect this fuss may have to the dog’s life in the future? Undoubtedly, the dog may be somewhat confused to have his routine upset. And in addition, it loses one of the regular people in his life. An outside observer would not be able to judge without knowing the facts.

However, the picture will have a tinge if there have been ongoing fights and tensions within the home. In that case, the dog may be better off living with just one person in a more harmonious situation.

My Remark

Who knows? Perhaps a judge could award joint custody and the divorced spouse would be able to occasionally visit the dog. You possibly watched the film “The Awful Truth” where Irene Dunne and Cary Grant go to court to decide who gets Mr. Smith, their Wire Fox Terrier.

What happened was that Irene Dunne cheated and used a toy to get Mr. Smith to come to her. Apart from that, Cary Grant is allowed to visit the dog. There was a relative happy ending. However, life might bring that not all divorces have happy endings.

My friend, I must state that I’m not a lawyer. This entry is the result from the conversation I made with a dog owner who is coincidentally a divorce judge with 38 years experience. Apart from that, I find it good that at least courts are trying to place dogs in the best situations.

P.S.: Imagine, you’re now reading your dog instead for the fair housing him in divorce. Hopefully, you and your dog are not a subject of such a court matter. Please, share the impact this post evoked in you in the comments. Thank You!

How To Cease Your Dog Begging?

One of the most unpleasant habits can be when your dog begging. That’s especially embarrassing when your favorite poured his saliva onto your  guest’s leg … or worse, if he’s jumping up additionally. You can try to blame your dog, of course. But, that would be meaningless because this behavior is clearly due to the owner.

Dog Begging Is a Learned Behavior

Reason for this is that the dog is easier to learn and pick up the bad habits than good. Thus, if only one time has occurred, that you gave him a couple of bones or other tasty morsel when he was there at lunch, you shouldn’t be surprised that he occurs to get for that at all lunch.

Only one chance is enough for him to interpret so that this behavior is free. You may like this conduct initially … because it’s so cute. And as such he is able to watch …

After some time, or if your pooch appears in no suitable moment at the table, it is not so cute, in fact, ill-mannered dog! The owner will be angry, and the dog doesn’t understand what is happening: why not is free for something that has been before?

How This Conduct Developed?

dog-beggingMy friend, put our hands on our hearts, who among us hasn’t slipped our dog a little something under the table? Is there anyone who isn’t guilty of feeding their dog a few bite off their plate? We’ve probably all done it, but if you do these things, then you are encouraging the dog begging at the table.

Although, begging isn’t good for your dog. It’s one sure way for your animal to put on extra weight. Plus, it can get pretty annoying. Here are some ways to cease your canine begging.

One of my friends said when her dog was a puppy her attention was shared between too many things at the same time, such as

– giving eat and drink to her
– vaccinate, de-worm, giving flea and tick killer in a timely manner
– weary her to sleep well, being satisfied and happy, hiking with her
– to practice the learned commands
– to show her new tricks
– teaching being less sensitive, to not be afraid of the storm

“Already are too many to list! Unfortunately, I didn’t pay enough attention and time to teaching her not to beg at the table. Now it’s too late.”

The Solution

NO! It still isn’t too late; you just don’t give up. Hold on to the next steps and you’ll be successful.

1)  Meal times are a very good time to put your dog’s crate to use. Crate your dog during your meals. Provide toys or treat for him in his crate.  However, teach him that this is his place when you are eating.

2)  If you don’t want to crate your dog during meals, then you will need to send him out of the room. Teach your dog to “go to his place.” This can be to his bed or to another room.

But, it should be some place where he can’t turn pleading eyes on you to beg for food. And don’t let him sneak back into the room or slip under the table.

3)  Try feeding your dog at the same time you have your own meals. Put his food in his crate if necessary. He may still hanker for your food, but you have to stand not to give it to him.

4)  Discipline yourself! Refuse to give your dog anymore food from your plate! Be consistent!

5)  Make sure that no one else in your family is slipping your dog food from the table. This is especially important with children. They are often the biggest culprits when it comes to feeding dogs under the table and encouraging begging.

Unless everyone stops feeding the dog from the table, the behavior will never stop. And dogs are great at finding the weakest person and working on them.

6)  If you have a puppy, then don’t let the begging behavior ever get started. Teach your puppy from the start to go to his crate when you have meals. Make sure that no one even thinks of beginning to give your puppy food from the table.

7) It makes it easy to teach your dog to cessate begging if you don’t leave food on the table. This way, you and our dog will not be tempted to peck while others aren’t there.

Remember that begging is not an instinct with dogs. It is a learned behavior. Someone along the way taught your dog to beg for food. (Wonder who that was?) So you have to teach him to stop the behavior.

Conclusion

Don’t feel guilty about saying NO to your dog! Around 40 percent of dogs in the United States are believed to be overweight or obese. Your dog will be healthier if you cut out feeding him from the table and stick to his primary diet. Most food for humans is too rich for dogs anyway and it’s not necessarily good for them.

For instance, each year after Thanksgiving veterinarians report a large increase in cases of pancreatitis and other digestive problems in dogs because people have shared their Turkey Day meal with their dogs. You can stop your dog from begging and help him be healthier by cutting out giving your dog food from your plate.

P.S.: Are you familiar with dog begging? How did this develop in your house?  Do you remember the time when it “dawned” on you that this should be stopped?  I hope these steps help you to weaning your doggie from his or her bad habits.
