Announcement, and Adopted Dog Returned

Dear All,

I’ll discuss today about an adopted dog someone took home and returned it back after a week. But, before that I’d like to make an announcement.

Well, we are all witnessed as 2013 says farewell to us. Can you believe it? I know you’re probably thinking ahead to what you can do in 2014 to make it your best year ever, right? I admit, that’s what I’m doing.

But, we are not beyond the Christmas and year-end festive period yet. In the coming days, I look back on time elapsed from the start of this site. And I also prepare the plan for 2014. Naturally, I spend Christmas with my family.

Thinking about my readers who subscribed so far I prepare a report, the topic is dog related of course. Hoping I’ll be able to send you that by the end of this year. The preparations are underway.

And I want to say to you “Thank You” for your support, questions, or suggestions I got this year. I hope I can count on your activity in the next year as well. I’ll do my best to achieve that.

An Adopted Dog Returned

And now, let’s go to the today’s topic. I anticipate that this story was in the news recently, and I felt inclined to write about an adopted dog returned.

Imagine a singer who is pet friendly person and loves the dogs. He was falling in love with a dog from the supply of a rescue foundation, and gladly took it his home. This is nothing special so far; it could happen to any animal loving people.

He renamed the canine from B to C. It was a good dog and was guarding the house well. But, it seems that the animal didn’t want to accept anyone only the singer in question.

As he said: “We liked him very much; C is really a very nice, good dog and a fine watchdog too. C was in our household for a few days when I left my home, and my wife wanted to give him food. But, she still not reached a bowl, and a dog growled and behaved as if he wanted to attack her.”

“I also wanted to introduce my 15-month-old son to him as well to acquaint themselves. Because C was heard the voice of my son from inside only so far. But, unfortunately, C’s behavior was threatening toward my son too. So I decided not to take any risk and discard the dog for family safety.”

Apart from that, the singer didn’t stop to think that the family expanded with an adopted dog. But, he says he is trying to find carefully the matching dog next time.

“Maybe a puppy would be better from the point of view that it could grow together with the child. For this moment, we are not planning another adoption, because this parting of a dog pretty worn us. A dog is not like a pair of pants that’s replaceable by man…”– added the singer.

The said dog is waiting for his loving new owner again at the rescue foundation presently. One of the members of the foundation said that this canine is a really lovable creature. They are looking for him a definitely strong, competent hand.

“This dog is a five years old, very smart, amiable animal, a true watchdog. We recommend him to a family safely, but in any case, he needs a host who is experienced, knowledgeable, and the dog doesn’t think after a day that he is the pack leader. I’m puzzled that he entered being offensive, because that isn’t his attribute at all. In any event, he is also looking forward to his final master.” – says Clare.

adopted-dog-returned“B is a very kind, sociable, truly charismatic dog, is walking nicely on a leash. He is an excellent watchdog and playmate as well. He requires the love and the occupation with him. It’s spayed, vaccinated, equipped with a chip and now is waiting for the final, responsible owner. After a week-long “guest performance,” B has been returned to us again. We brought him back, although we are sure that it would have been a great fan for the family, additionally an excellent watchdog.”

So far the story. The Noteworthy Lessons:

* As I mentioned in one of my other articles, I worked in a dog shelter as a volunteer. Sadly, the majority of the canines in shelters are located there as they had been the subject of inconsiderate buying. Specifically, certain family member or adult individuals rush to adopt a dog, although they neglected to ponder what keeping a dog involves.

I use to examine the circumstances and members in our family, and myself in addition to my time accessible and select accordingly. I’d say, to find a dog is just your first task, however, a really important one. You have to be believed strongly that you, and the animal will probably be the right match to one another. You have to be certain that your household will be the suitable home for that chosen canine.

* Avoid taking home any dog immediately from a sudden “love.” Dependent on their outer traits only you may make a false decision. Namely, their entire character and temperament might stay hidden for you at that minute.

To be aware of these completely you have to be in everyday interaction with the chosen dog. In order to uncover the correct fellow in one another requires time, similar to a great marriage. I use to take to walk the chosen animal three – four times to experience their behavior.

That is indispensable for the basic cognition, then I decide to take it or leave it.

* Your task is to prepare yourself and your family members to the arriving of your chosen animal. I use to make notices when I heard the information the rescue organization staff announces. This information I give to my family, after all, we all will live together with the dog.

It’s advisable that your spouse and kids are aware who is the newcomer. Furthermore, some dog keeping experience also is useful when you intend to take an adult dog having unknown experiences. Dogs in similar age might have entrenched habits you have to be able to handle as a pack leader.

* It’s advisable not to monopolize the dog for yourself. Dogs rehomed in new circumstances require time to understand the family members. And you should accustom the dog to accept food and drink from others from your family. By hand feeding some food your dog (under supervision) will know the smell of that person, that helps in the accepting.

Furthermore, the jealousy related their food, bone or toy is a normal practice for dogs. Of course, with love, patience and persistence you can cease that conduct after a time. And teach your family member to forget anxiety when dealing with. The dog might sense your fear and can be growl or attack.

* Lastly, but not last, older animals don’t like to share their owner’s attention, and love. It occurs many times that these dogs become a so called “one owner only” dogs. Having said that, we have arrived again to the point that we should get to know all info about the dog before we’re taking him home.

Introducing Your Baby To a Dog is not as simple as showing to your cat. When you are ready to present the baby to your dog, please consider the following tips:

Ask someone to hold the dog leash while you take place in a chair with your child into your arms. Put your hand on the baby’s head. (This gesture shows the protection of your baby and at the same time prevents it from being bitten by the dog.)

Do not place the baby on the floor and never hold over the dog’s head, because doing that you compel the dog to jump.

Use a balanced, calm tone when talking to your dog, and sometimes caress him, to feel safe in itself.

If you don’t perceive any aggressive behavior such as growling or tail downward, slowly afford for him to take a closer look at the baby – but do not lick it. The licking is unhealthy might serve as a prelude of biting.

Make sure that your dog’s leash tight enough to be pulled back if necessary. If your dog shows any negative behaviors, answer to him a definite “NO” and command him to move away or drop out of the room. If he listens to your command and goes off independently, reward it.

Even if all goes “smooth,” it is recommended to keep the dog on a leash whenever it is approaching the child, at least the first three weeks still you manage to study his behavior.

Can Dogs Get Colds in Winter Really?

Hi Everyone,

Dogs-related news always attracted my attention. So, I just stumbled upon a news covered pets can get cold appeared on the CBS Las Vegas website. The KXNT Morning News is hosted by Joe Gillespie. He had a guest vet Debbie White, who said noteworthy advices on the subject. Dr. White explained that dogs get colds in chilled weather without your noticing.

She recommended dog owners dress up their dogs with sweaters, particularly if those are short-haired. Furthermore, Dr. White said in the conversation that you should provide your dog a sufficient amount of food and water. But, that’s not enough; you must also pay attention to prevent the drinking water from freezing.

The Cold in Practice

dogs-get-colds-in-winter-easilyI’ve to say I totally agree with Dr. White, based on my experiences. Cold in canines may have occurred and could be attributable to the varied viruses and germs. In this regard, dogs show signs similar to us, humans. Of course, much depends on recognizing the symptoms in its earlier phase.

Our dogs get colds by being around nearness with another, already infected canine, too. Together with this, low immunity levels, stress, and unfriendly climatic conditions could be further contributing factors.

Even so, the majority of dog owners normally have issues distinguish a standard cold from a severe disease. Here is a listing by way of help to make things somewhat simple for you. The list covers a collection of symptom signs that your canine possesses a cold.

Common Cold Symptoms in Dogs

– Runny eyes
– White nose and discharge-flow
– Grumpiness
– Sluggishness
– Coughing
– Sneezing
– Hypothermia

Puppy and Low Temperature

The list of symptoms can be observed in puppies and adult dogs equally. In addition, the new-born dogs don’t even require serious cold to be cool down. They have inherently higher heat demand and their coat is weak. Moreover, they lack the protecting fatty layer under their skin.

The few movements of the newborns and the slower metabolism are also added to the mentioned facts. The process from this point is straightforward: a newborn puppy gives low moaning sound. Then it moves even less, and eventually finishes its life.

After two months of their age, the puppies almost become restless, also they consume more food. Therefore, more and more fat is released within their bodies. Consequently, they are threatened by risk of hypothermia on less and less level.

If You Faced Trouble

In dogs, you have to take the common cold seriously. Namely, if it remains untreated, might have serious consequences. Your dog may exhibit symptoms of the common cold like sneezing, coughing, fever. In those situations mostly health problems – which are weakening the immune system – are behind.

In these cases, the care of the dog’s host is often questionable. Indeed, a puppy who has strong immune system will not get the same disease than his underfed, low-strength mate. By the way, helminthiasis, or other microorganisms also can produce symptoms of the common cold.

Due to the limited energy and liquid reserves, the condition of your dog may be deteriorated rapidly. You, therefore, need to take him to a vet as soon as possible. The speed of the treatment started in time can save lives. Long time dog owners are understandable dread dangerous viruses like distemper and kennel cough.

Elderly Dogs Get Colds

The older dogs get colds easily, terefore, they need protection in winter season. Most of the small, rare-haired old dogs will cool off very easily, especially if they are slim. Unfortunately, the insidious hypothermia goes unnoticed so frequently. Only the increased muscle tone, rigidity will be conspicuous for an inexperienced owner.

If the dog’s body temperature is reduced significantly, malfunction of the internal organs quickly takes place. The most frequent trouble is the renal ceases its service. The liver and the heart muscle is very sensitive to the cold effect. And the rheumatic diseases tend to be worse due to the cold.

As I experienced, you cannot eliminate the damages with rapid warming of the cold animal. The acute inflammation of the kidneys often becomes chronic, and this can be fatal. Therefore, there is no shame in wearing a coat by a weaker or older dog in winter.

Walking on Winter Roads

If possible, avoid walking your dog on the salt-strewn roads. If this is not a manageable option, then smear thick Vaseline or paw protector wax to your dog’s paws before walking outside. This will prevent cracking of the pad’s skin and keep feet away from the salt.

The salt causes burning feeling on the cracked pads, and this can lead to poorly healing wounds. Furthermore, the tiny snow balls and ice pieces sticking into toes also can be a resonwhy dogs get colds in winter. These can be very uncomfortable and painful. So it’s advisable to cut off the hair between the toes in time.

Until next time…

Caring Dog Ownership Costs Money, Too

When it comes to dog ownership, you might find yourself in a situation like a boat owner. I’m saying this because that position comes with a never-ending money spending. One example: already the purchase of the dog itself is concerned on quite a wide range of costs. Namely, it may have a price varying from a $30 pet adoption charge to three thousands dollars and over for purebred and trendy canines. And you ought to pay that amount before you get your pet.

Feeding Costs

First, you have to have the right type of dog food. Food choices are age-graded so that what you feed a puppy differs from what you give an adult dog. There are even foods for both puppies and older dogs with extra nutrients to match their unique needs.

caring-dog-ownership-provides-quality-food

Caring Dog Ownership Provides Quality Food

It turns out from a Consumer Reports survey that dog owner individuals spend typically around $36 per month for canine food. CR also says that a major portion of the nationwide pet-meals spending nowadays pertains to the so-known premium and super-premium dog food versions.

However, your conscientious veterinarian will most likely inform you that the common dog doesn’t want expensive food. For wholesome grownup canines, a medium-priced dry kibble can provide good diet so long as it carries certain labels. You need to first search for “complete and balanced” on the label.

That signifies the food items offers sufficient amount of nutrients to be your family dog’s solely way to obtain meals as outlined through AAFCO. Then search for a declaration situated on the bag which claims the food meets the standards of the Association of American Feed Control Officials.

Is Your Dog Inside or Outdoor?

A canine living outdoor requires a spot to rest and sleep that’s saved off of the weather. Merely putting your dog into a fenced kennel isn’t suitable. Of course, that solution would be somewhat better than a prison.

But, a caring dog ownership is not about that. On a serious note, your outdoor canine wants a strong doghouse with insulated sides, floor and roof – to bearing extreme climates. These insulated dog houses can be available from $250 – $300 for small doggies.

The upper limit can reach or exceed the one thousand dollars for bigger canines. Providing an air con or possible heating unit to the doghouse outdoor for the price of the unit plus installation can be another solution.

For dogs living inside you may also acquire an interior doghouse. That can supply a feeling of privacy to your small or medium canines. A captivating indoor doghouse made from rattan is generally available in smaller sizes for not much than $200.

Required Supplies

Obviously, your dog also requires the proper bowls for drink and eating. The bowls for young puppies are nearer to the ground and made durable to avoid a fall over. These are not particularly large items in your budget. For example; a stainless steel bowl is available for fewer than five dollars now.

After that you’ll need a sleeping area for your puppy. Depending on your conception and purses that may start from a discarded winter coat. The other extreme may be to use a completely decked mattress within a box that is more expensive than your own bed.

Anything between the two is imaginable. The point is which one will be suitable to your canine. I have seen cases where the dog preferred the cheaper solution.

Equipments like a collar or leash is a one-time investment (except loss or ruined by chew). I’ve discovered a set contained the collar and leash under $20 online. Of course, I’m talking about that fulfills the modest needs. Extra demand requires more money, as always.

Dog Clothing

I have written about that previously here and here. Apart from that, in chilly and moist climates, dog raincoats and sweaters are reasonable items. The small canines really want some additional warmth provided by a sweater.

The tendency to dress dogs start from swimsuits to celebration costumes for Halloween or high fashion shortly runs the tab for a brand-new wardrobe that you simply love, however, don’t count on each animal to prefer that idea.

Dog Toys

I do realize that the toy part is just a bit small compared to what you may discover in department stores for your toddlers. Dog toys can start from cheap bones and chew objects. The line is continuing to toy squirrels, frogs or cats anyway.

That may set up the sense of your canine the mastery over other animals. Anyway, earlier I dealt with choosing chew toys for our dogs here.

Dog Ownership Also Means Vet Costs

I mention this item nearly at the end of this list because it could be the greatest among all costs. To my mind, the health of the dog is something that we shouldn’t be stingy with. The veterinary costs may also depend besides inherited predispositions that how healthy our dog is, how we take care of his health.

caring-dog-ownership-contains-vet-care

Caring Dog Ownership Contains Vet Care

Moreover, included here the costs of mandatory shots, deworming, sterilization costs, defense against parasites and the micro-chipping expense. Therefore, to boost your spare money already from the start isn’t a silly thing.

Namely, as the time has passed, it’ll be necessary to think about unexpected expenses. Your main recurrent spending might be upkeep with vet exams and possible treatings. Your budget also should be capable of bear the grooming expenses if a pro performs that.

Conclusion

Finally, you’ll additionally discover an eternal supply of canine training books as well as videos. Dog grooming programs, private training lessons for your pet and dog exercises also require some money. And I didn’t even mention the costs that may be necessary for the preparations for dog competitions and exhibitions, the related travel and supply and the like.

I hope, I was able to demonstrate that you do not hold the dog for free. So, I tell you again, put aside money in reserves. You’ll also require it when making the annual photographs of your furry friend being on Santa’s lap!

Obviously, the above-mentioned things don’t mean that you cannot keep a loving and devoted dog companion. My article basically intended to highlight the dog keeping responsibilities. The point is to do not tamper lightly into one relationship without seeing the things behind.

Dog Ownership Includes Rescuing Animals

I firmly believe, providing a chance of a happy and healthy life for a dog is well worth the money. Among other things, this is also the reason that I rescued a puppy (left) from the street yesterday. Anyway, in one of my following posts, I will give you money-saving tips, related to dog ownership.

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

How To Cease Your Dog Begging?

One of the most unpleasant habits can be when your dog begging. That’s especially embarrassing when your favorite poured his saliva onto your  guest’s leg … or worse, if he’s jumping up additionally. You can try to blame your dog, of course. But, that would be meaningless because this behavior is clearly due to the owner.

Dog Begging Is a Learned Behavior

Reason for this is that the dog is easier to learn and pick up the bad habits than good. Thus, if only one time has occurred, that you gave him a couple of bones or other tasty morsel when he was there at lunch, you shouldn’t be surprised that he occurs to get for that at all lunch.

Only one chance is enough for him to interpret so that this behavior is free. You may like this conduct initially … because it’s so cute. And as such he is able to watch …

After some time, or if your pooch appears in no suitable moment at the table, it is not so cute, in fact, ill-mannered dog! The owner will be angry, and the dog doesn’t understand what is happening: why not is free for something that has been before?

How This Conduct Developed?

dog-beggingMy friend, put our hands on our hearts, who among us hasn’t slipped our dog a little something under the table? Is there anyone who isn’t guilty of feeding their dog a few bite off their plate? We’ve probably all done it, but if you do these things, then you are encouraging the dog begging at the table.

Although, begging isn’t good for your dog. It’s one sure way for your animal to put on extra weight. Plus, it can get pretty annoying. Here are some ways to cease your canine begging.

One of my friends said when her dog was a puppy her attention was shared between too many things at the same time, such as

– giving eat and drink to her
– vaccinate, de-worm, giving flea and tick killer in a timely manner
– weary her to sleep well, being satisfied and happy, hiking with her
– to practice the learned commands
– to show her new tricks
– teaching being less sensitive, to not be afraid of the storm

“Already are too many to list! Unfortunately, I didn’t pay enough attention and time to teaching her not to beg at the table. Now it’s too late.”

The Solution

NO! It still isn’t too late; you just don’t give up. Hold on to the next steps and you’ll be successful.

1)  Meal times are a very good time to put your dog’s crate to use. Crate your dog during your meals. Provide toys or treat for him in his crate.  However, teach him that this is his place when you are eating.

2)  If you don’t want to crate your dog during meals, then you will need to send him out of the room. Teach your dog to “go to his place.” This can be to his bed or to another room.

But, it should be some place where he can’t turn pleading eyes on you to beg for food. And don’t let him sneak back into the room or slip under the table.

3)  Try feeding your dog at the same time you have your own meals. Put his food in his crate if necessary. He may still hanker for your food, but you have to stand not to give it to him.

4)  Discipline yourself! Refuse to give your dog anymore food from your plate! Be consistent!

5)  Make sure that no one else in your family is slipping your dog food from the table. This is especially important with children. They are often the biggest culprits when it comes to feeding dogs under the table and encouraging begging.

Unless everyone stops feeding the dog from the table, the behavior will never stop. And dogs are great at finding the weakest person and working on them.

6)  If you have a puppy, then don’t let the begging behavior ever get started. Teach your puppy from the start to go to his crate when you have meals. Make sure that no one even thinks of beginning to give your puppy food from the table.

7) It makes it easy to teach your dog to cessate begging if you don’t leave food on the table. This way, you and our dog will not be tempted to peck while others aren’t there.

Remember that begging is not an instinct with dogs. It is a learned behavior. Someone along the way taught your dog to beg for food. (Wonder who that was?) So you have to teach him to stop the behavior.

Conclusion

Don’t feel guilty about saying NO to your dog! Around 40 percent of dogs in the United States are believed to be overweight or obese. Your dog will be healthier if you cut out feeding him from the table and stick to his primary diet. Most food for humans is too rich for dogs anyway and it’s not necessarily good for them.

For instance, each year after Thanksgiving veterinarians report a large increase in cases of pancreatitis and other digestive problems in dogs because people have shared their Turkey Day meal with their dogs. You can stop your dog from begging and help him be healthier by cutting out giving your dog food from your plate.

P.S.: Are you familiar with dog begging? How did this develop in your house?  Do you remember the time when it “dawned” on you that this should be stopped?  I hope these steps help you to weaning your doggie from his or her bad habits. Anyway, the comment section is waiting for your story, so share it now. Thank You!

Care for Dogs in Summer Heat

Writing about how to care for dogs in summer heat is very timely. If your winter dream realized in a sunny weather, you’ve choices to cool yourself. You can achieve a pleasant pastime with your family and dogs outside. People are looking a river, lake, sea or a beach for refreshment. That’s fine, if you think about the increased risks associated with the heat. But, no panic, you can forestall heat issues take place to your doggie.

Where I live, we’re having a heat wave, for a month now. The biggest problem is that rain in our region was only one and a half months ago. You can only imagine what the heat distress is both man and animal. I think; you understand that animals often suffer as equal as humans in summer heat, so care for dogs is indispensable.

This is important because considering their body size and weight, the outcome occurs sooner and can be heavier. You can compare them to that child who has the same weight. Moreover, we, humans can perspire and our natural instinct urges us to get help or consume enough water. In contrast, dogs don’t sweat, because they aren’t able to do so.

Care-for-dogs-and-let-them-play-in-water-in-summer-heat

One of the sure methods to remain cool in the warmth is playing in water. And if you’re a responsible owner, your dogs do that under your supervision. The summer period can also be an excellent possibility to travel to a temperate climate with your favorite.

Preventing Sunburn and Blistering

We, humans, are able to minimize the chance of sun burning by taking place under a tree or an umbrella, possibly another shade. The right choice to guard your skin is to wear sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and protective clothing if you’re outdoors. That may be necessary even you’re within a shade.

Otherwise, you won’t realize but the sun can burn your skin surface and likewise, your pooch in no time. There are sun-sensitive surfaces such as lips, ears and nose. Therefore, preserve your canine within the shade during the burning hours. Generally, that period starts from 10 a.m. and lasts around 3 – 4 p.m.

If you cannot remain in the shade, for some reason, you may put sunscreen on your pet’s sensitive surfaces. However, you should not cover your furry pal’s lips because that would prevent the dog panting. Namely, the dogs do not hang out their tongues because the fashion dictates that.

Far from it. As I wrote here: “… we need to bear in mind that our canines lack sweat glands (unlike the people) to minimize the risk of heat. They pant in order to help to regulate their physique temperature. So, your pooch (panting with his hanging tongue) is a warmed animal.”

So, you only need to focus your attention on your pet to make certain there isn’t a sunburn. In this respect, staying on the beach sand or a dark-colored pavement for long time requires your particular attention.

Namely, remaining on easy to become hot areas the risk of skin blistering is much bigger. I always try to go or stay on grassy places if the possibilities allow. And finally, if you perceive any bladder developing, then take your pooch to your vet without delay.

Heat Exhaustion and Stroke

If your dog’s temperature reaches or goes beyond 104 degrees, a heat stroke can happen easily. The elevated temperature triggers a metabolic confusion. That means the chemicals necessary for normal body operation released.

And that can lead to cell destruction in the physic. The brain, the liver, and bowel are more vulnerable to the consequences relating to cell destruction.

The blood of a living organism becomes thicker in case of heat stroke. That will cause stress in the center because that tries to pump the heavy blood across the system. Consequently, the blood stagnates and at some point coagulates, so the tissue death befalls. Even so, this occurrence can be prevented.

I don’t know about you, so I ask; have you ever left your dog in your closed car in a parking lot? If that’s the case, it’s time to change your habit and don’t do it anymore. Namely, the main reason dogs suffered a heat stroke is leaving them there in summer heat.

If you’re forced to leave your dog in your car for some reason, then leave the air-conditioning on. In the absence of that option, provide a fan to circulate the air. If that also isn’t available, let the windows down that extent the dog cannot come out.

There are canines that are very active due to its nature. These may also develop heat stroke in the absence of shadows on an extremely heat day. Therefore, it’s advisable to lessen their exercise also in this respect.

It happens that someone really loves her dog favorite. I also love my dogs, but I try to avoid overfeed them. Namely, if your four-legged friend has overweight, or heart possibly a lung problem, it’s increasingly at risk getting a heat stroke.

And, as dogs become older their sensitivity rises, so they are prone to heat stroke or heat exhaustion. I also know a case where the irresponsible owner not thought about it and overworked his Kuvasz dog on a heat day. The nine-year-old dog died, and I felt very sorry for that beautiful animal.

If your family dog generally lives inside, then leave him home in air-conditioned room when you do your usual jogging. Of course, there may be a situation when you forced to take him with you. In this case, while you’re arranging the tasks involved in, leave him in your air-conditioned car.

There are many canines, which live outside. If you’re one of these owners, then you should be particularly careful and supply shady places for your pet. Providing umbrella or ventilated dog house are other alternatives to save your dog’s life in summer heat.

My Labrador-German Shepherd mix, Zizi is an outdoor dog, and I reduced her daily exercise. She can hide from the heat because there are many shaded places in our yard. She has four opportunities to drink fresh water in our yard when thirsty.

You probably have a more senior dog. Then it’s best to keep him interior of your home when the heat is infernal. After all, you’d want to keep him being cool and remain healthy.

Do Not Let the Water Out

The number-one method to forestall heat illnesses is providing enough fresh drinking water to your doggie. I’m trying to put water bowls into the shade always. I change the water if the sun moves through the sky and the rays reaches them.

The two-minute work is worth it to protect my dog from the heat and dehydration. By using the above tips as well as common sense, you do a serious step toward enjoy rather than suffer summer season with your dogs.

P.S. Is such an infernal heat around your living environment? How do you care for dogs? Share with us below the impact this entry elicited from you. Thank you.

Dog Barking and Its Causes

Why do dogs bark? That’s because they cannot mew. Smile Putting the joke aside, the dog barking is one-of-a-kind interaction and signaling device with people and other dogs. In other words, that’s part of the dog body language. The varied, diverse, and often vocalizing barking is one of the most distinctive features of dogs live today.

Us, humans, often fret about it, but that’s because we don’t understand the nature of dogs. Our dogs are similar to our children, in certain extent. If they are comfortless, hungry or thirsty as well as detect a threat or worried, they might bark. They indicate something with that, quasi send a message to us or the other dogs.

For example, we have a scorcher heat in these August days. Accordingly, we try to keep ourselves as fresh as possible, on different ways. We go to shaded place or a beach, enjoy the benefits of air conditioning, and consume refreshing drinks. But, can our dog do so, or he lacks these options?

Is there a shaded area for our Fido? Has he enough fresh drinking water or the Sun made its bowl dry? You should supply enough meals, drinking water and shaded place to your pet to feel himself well and voilá … the barking problem disappears.

Why the Dog Barking Formed Anno?

According to research, the ancestors of dogs were barking much less. I read the Applied Animal Behaviour Science, where Csaba Molnar science journalist, formerly an ethologist at Hungary’s Eotvos Lorand University, reported on the research conducted by his team.

Dog-barking-as-a-Rough-Collie-showsAs I understand it, the barking as a form of speech developed as a feature of the domesticated dogs. Their predecessors understood each other’s specific body language and voice signals well. Consequently, a need for barking rarely occured in their life.

The signals of dogs are partly vocal, and to some extent, based on gestures. Unfortunately, the man wasn’t really able to read the body language of dogs. Thus, canines had no other choice than to have learned to speak, that is bark.

So perhaps we can understand them. Interestingly, if a domesticated dog runs wild (becomes homeless, will be stray on streets), then after a while he forgets to bark again. It is likely that the barking spread to such an extent as it would be the impact of living together with people.

The ethologists were studied and analyzed digitally a lot of variable barking shape. And now they not only attach importance to the communication between the varieties. But, they also pay attention to the information connection of creatures working with people as well.

They recorded the intonations in many situations and analyzed the acoustic characteristics. They wanted to identify on what basis the people determine the mood of barking. The results show that people can determine on a fairly uniform manner the probable atmosphere of dogs based solely on their sounds (e.g. yelping frequency).

The bark is therefore, a very effective communication tool. That allows dogs (and people too) to be capable gathering a fine picture about the different and unique atmosphere and the external environment of the barking species. Furthermore, it may help to understand better our four-legged friends. Consequently, we can read their sign language.

Bark Types

The rowdy dogs – as my research and experience show – can be divided into six main groups according to the causes of barking:

* The “excited” dog is passionate and can be stimulated easily. It moves a lot, and sometimes gasps throughout barking. Its continuous barking is directed towards that thing which irritates him. That might be, for example, an unusual noise, a frog, a bird or a hedgehog in the garden, etc.

Dog-barking,-as-a-Poodle-calls-you-to-play-with-a-yelp* The “look at me” type dog feels himself lonely and wants attention. He looks at the chosen people or animal and starts crisp, strong, definite barking. He is quirky enough to make a short pause to see if anyone was watching. It may occur; he spices his barking with tail wagging or dance around for even more attention.

* The “neglected” dog is barking to release its steam. Its obsessive barking has monotonous rhythm, not specifically aimed at anything. Sometimes he stops its show, but for just to gather strength to be able to start again. He’s barking in stationary position, but sometimes he can lift his head and howl.

* The “overly affectionate” dog suffers from separation anxiety. She misses a person, especially important for herself. Her frantic, high-pitched bark might be compounded with salivation, or whining. Sometimes, she barks by turning right at the door or the window where she saw her loved one. Such dogs are also often expressed their sorrow with chewing, scratching.

* The “defensive” dog is concerned; she is terrified. He sees, hear or smell something, which causes him to fear and communicates in short, sharp, high-pitched barking. You also can see physical signs of fear. He is trembling, shaking or pulling herself together. This dog is looking in the direction of the source of fear and moves forward when he barks. But then he prefers to turn back, retreat to a safe point.

* The “offensive” dog barks from a threat, to protect whatever it is worth: himself, his territory, food or other property, or even the owner. It’s a brave dog who has no remorse about to attack the intruder if gets too close. To let people see themselves bigger than it is, he uses the shocking effect. He barks in increasing tempo; his barking is intensive, but brief, and often preceded by a growl.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter, what’s the reason of the dog barking. That only becomes a problem if you don’t understand what’s behind.

The Hungarian Kuvasz Dog Breed

It doesn’t develop a flattering picture about the Kuvasz dog breed in public mind. And without good reasons, I believe. Aggressive, vicious, unpredictable – you may hear these mostly from those amateurs who don’t know enough about this breed. That opinion is based on their misunderstanding – I’m sure. This dog only does his job which people bred him for: to protect his owner, his family and its values. Let’s look at him a little closer.

How the Kuvasz Story Started?

The Kuvasz is one of the ancient Hungarian sheepdog breeds. According to history, the Komondor, the Kuvasz, the Puli and the Magyar Agár (Hungarian Greyhound) was probably the loyal companions of Árpád’s people settled in the Carpathian basin around the 895th year. The Magyars used this dog to guard their flock against wolves and robbers.

Ergo, this incorruptible, brave and hard dog breed is the part of the Hungarian heritage. At least, a thousand year’s past circulates in his veins. How old this dog breed can be, is a basis of different theories.

Nevertheless, one thing is certain. Archeologists – led by John Matolcsy – found a fossilized, 9th century Kuvasz-type dog skeleton at Fenékpuszta by Keszthely, Hungary in 1978.

The interesting thing is that the formal appearance of the discovery is almost same than the modern Kuvasz. This archeological find proves that this dog can be identified as one of the most ancient canine breeds. Namely, the existence of few breeds can be a little earlier than the 9th century only.

Of course, excavations have been carried out elsewhere, too. For example, bone artifacts are derived from Northern Iraq area already from the 7th millennium BC. Those finds refer for the existence of a strong structured sheepdog similar to Kuvasz at that time.

The guarding dogs were almost the same size as Kuvasz existed on the Eurasian steppes in several color variations. But, most researchers consider the white version of the most ancient form. The same Central Asian environmental impacts and natural selection aspects resulted in a sheepdog breed with similar internal and external properties.

The migratory flows started at different times from the Asian steppes toward West. Naturally, the dogs marched with their tribes as well. The way of life of dogs was very hard like the nomadic tribes. The successful survival required a solid body, strength and probably certain wildness.

Why were these dogs essential for the semi-nomadic Hungarians at that time? On one hand, the public safety wasn’t perfect then – to put it mildly. Moreover, the Hungarians have cattle, horses and other flocks for which other people yearn. On the other hand, don’t forget the wolves and other predators as well.

The two large and white shepherd guard dogs (the Komondor and the Kuvasz) protect people, herds, studs and flocks from predators and robbers. Namely, the shepherd alone wasn’t able to perform this task because he wasn’t sufficiently vigilant, nor strong enough.

Let me mention the hunting as an important use of the Kuvasz from the age of Árpád to the beginning of the XX century. It proves his versatility that this dog was also used to bison hunting. Moreover, he had to survive the wild boar as well. So, we can conclude, it isn’t just any kind of dog breed.

Appearance

Kuvasz-dog-Suba

It belongs to the strong, curly-haired, big sort of dogs. Its coat is straight or quite wavy and mostly white or ivory colored. Nobility and strength that his pleasing appearance beams to the outside world. The landscapes of his body are proportional, not elongated and not squat too.

Its body length slightly exceeds the height. His back is a medium length. Its loin is short and strong. The rump is broad, robust and somewhat sloping. Its rump is equipped with rich fur, so this animal may seem a bit overweight. The withers is longer and higher than the back.

Its hanging tail is set low, continued to its hocks, and the end is slightly curved upwards. His chest is deep; the front part of his chest is rising due to the muscles and the sternum. This dog’s belly is slightly tucked up.

The bones of the Kuvasz are strong, without coarseness. This animal has lean muscles and dry joints. Nonetheless, he isn’t bulky, and he is light-footed and nimble compared to his size. The appearance of this dog reflects his tireless workload anyway.

His head is typical wedge-shaped, in harmony with the body, attractive and noble. The skull is elongated, even so, never pointed. His lips are black and tensed, with a scalloped edge at the corner of the mouth. He has been regular, strong teeth with complete scissor bite closing. In optimal case the palate has dark complexion.

The dog’s eyes are slanted, almond shaped as well as dark brown colored. His ears are on top of the head from the continuation of a straight horizontal stems. The top third withdraws from the head slightly, then they’re flat completely.

The ears of the Kuvasz are forming a V shape. When the canine is in observing position, his ears flapped. However, his ears do not standing up and don’t cork-screwing.

The skin of this animal has a lot of pigment, and is tight. The color of the dog’s skin is slate gray. His nose, and the eye-lids are black. The pads are black or slate gray colored.

How big is this dog? The Kuvasz is a large and powerfully built breed.

Height at the withers:    Males: 71-76 cm (28 to 30 in)    Females: 66-70 cm (26 to 28 in)

Weight:             Males: 48-62 cm (100 to 115 lbs)    Females: 37-50 kg (70 to 90 lbs)

Behavior

The Hungarian Kuvasz is a courageous and fearless dog breed. He protects the persons and properties entrusted to his care, whether at the cost of his life. He is self-respecting, thus in case of abuse it turns into coarsened. And that is NOT the dog’s fault.

He is loyal, reliable, loves his surroundings and his owner. It requires a large place, due to the size of him. This canine is undemanding; his care is simple, and he can face up to the harshest weather. Like us, humans, this dog is grateful for the love and care.

He is a shrewd, docile breed; you can train him to the guard-work easily. I’ve to mention here that due to their high pain threshold and reliable character, these canines tolerate very well the company of kids. But, due to its strength, size and independence, I don’t recommend you to consign the care to your toddlers.

Moreover, you should be aware that the Kuvasz is eager to protect all the people and animals of the family. That also means that he protects your children against foreign children who might hurt yours. So, be careful!

He is distrustful to strangers because of his protective character. But, I assure you, if someone provokes him, he’ll attack almost immediately. Of course, this behavior may be familiar to you from the human world, I think.

He behaves as a dominant with other dogs, and would never let a challenge go unanswered. But, this dog breed is good with other pets if they’re raised together.

Many think; the Kuvasz is an unpredictable, aggressive dog. However, I don’t share this opinion based on my long experience. He’s a normal, manageable, kid-loving dog, if someone gave him ordinary treatment. And I also know that the people are those who don’t choose a right dog for themselves or ruin that animal they brought home earlier.

The intelligence of the Kuvasz is above average. Contrary to popular belief, this dog is gentle and kind, though usually only to his owner’s family. This famous Hungarian sheepdog relaxed than its close relative, the Komondor.

I would say, this animal is not for everyone, mainly not for an inexperienced, first-time owner. This dog requires hard but fair and not coarse treatment just as the Rottweilers. This animal doesn’t bark unnecessarily, but if he barks, it’s advisable to look after the reason.

He feels good for himself in the outdoors; it’s best with a big yard. Because of his need of movement, he is the ideal jogging fellow to you for example. Besides the physical exercises you need to provide him mental challenges as well.

The Kuvasz requires a balanced, calm, clear and consistent teaching. It is not for everyone; the prospective owner should be mentally and physically strong. However, this doesn’t mean that the education methods should be violent.

On the contrary! This dog can learn easily in a harmonious environment, at hand of such a person who doesn’t stifle the canine’s own initiative. The relationship between the Kuvasz and you, the owner will be balanced only, if it is built on the mutual respect and trust.

The condition of that is that you need to spend a lot of time on the rearing and care of the given animal. I don’t recommend you to keep him inside. One reason is the aforementioned desire for freedom; this dog needs enough space.

The other reason is that you probably wouldn’t be happy with the intensive hair losing in the molting period. Anyway, it has normal grooming need, but you can neglect a little the frequent stripping and trimming if you don’t take him to shows.

Typically, it’s not specific medical condition afflicting these large dogs. The exception is the hip dysplasia, which can occur in them. Anyway, they are not really prone to be ill.

Me and the Kuvasz

This animal is one of the dogs of my childhood. I remember a beautiful white female Kuvasz dog; Swan was her name. My family possessed different domestic animals, and I found pleasure to look after them. This also was good in that aspect that I learned liability as a child.

It belonged to my duties to clean the bowl Swan used for eating and drinking. I observed as my Mom prepared Swan’s meals and contributed sometimes, too. Of course, I cleaned up her potty, and checked the texture as I taught.

I remember, how Swan and I played together with a piece of string or a stick. Running in the big yard and rolling on the meadow belonged to our common fun. She had enough energy to weary me. Swan took care of me, and I taught by the parents not to be rude in the game.

Unfortunately, as I grew up, she had aged too. I felt very bad when Swan left us. The loss affected me so deeply that I decided I will no longer have this kind of dog.

But, I didn’t become completely unfaithful to this breed. Because I regularly meet and talk with other dog people and there is a Kuvasz owner among them as well. When I discover Kuvasz dogs on dog shows, they always remind me to my childhood friend.

Anyway, two doors down there is a female Kuvasz dog, it’s two years old now. We have got to know each other already, although I’m not a member of that family. And I often consult with the owner. Maybe I’ll get one doggie from this breed in the future. Who knows?

Finally, I hope, by reading this entry you have come closer to understanding what these precious animals might mean for you during their 10  –  14-year longevity.

Best Dog Breed for Us?

I hear this question quite often: “Which would be the best dog breed for us?” I’m honored if you ask this from me, for two reasons. Partly, I see that you want to get information to make a well-grounded decision. On the other hand, I am pleased if I may share my dog keeping experience, and you benefit from that. So, let me to answer the opening question through an example of someone.

The Question

Which-is-the-best-dog-breed-for-us?We want a family dog which one can fit well. And I don’t want to look silly but am unsure: what would be the best dog breed for us? Of course, I would be the leader of the pack (as a woman). I will do the feeding, drinking, walking, caring, scratching, pampering, etc.

I hadn’t many dogs so far, and I’m not an expert. Basic things – such as sit, lie down, walk beside feet, retrieve a stick and alike – I can teach I think. But, I cannot carry through serious training.

Our bigger child is a boy, is hyperactive, always moving, very loud, running around. I’m uncertain; a more relaxed or more active dog would be good for him? By the way, he’s pretty hard to express himself, especially his feelings. That’s why I think he needs a companion, a dog mate.

The smaller is our daughter, and she is a sweet, not too bold child, but a caregiver. She feed and drink the cats always. When rain starts to fall, she immediately brings them inside. When it’s cold, she blankets them eventually.

I think, a more relaxed dog would be fine to her. But, she has so much acceptance and love that she will love the whatever dog, so I’m not worried about her. She is not used to chivy the dog. She is well accustomed to do, but a little scared when a dog jogs her, or is fierce.

My husband also loves the animals. He caresses them the same way like feed, clean up the yard, etc.. But, he is less at home, let’s just say that he could be devoting less time.

We live in a family house with a large garden that is sacred and inviolable, no scraping, digging, treading, because it can no longer go there. So it is a quite docile, obedient dog would be my desire.

Our yard is ‘dog safe’ – so to speak –  there isn’t something to ruin, or irreplaceable. And we have cats.

So, the best dog breed I’d be interested for. A quiet dog would be better for our girl and a vivid for the boy. But, if we choose a quieter canine, how long that will tolerate our boy? Vice versa, if we choose a vigorous one, how can you teach the dog not to jog her and to be more careful with her?

The dog wouldn’t be the kids’ property, but they would be together a lot. And, I wouldn’t want one of my kids didn’t love the dog, or wouldn’t be able to adapt to each other.

In the first place, we cannot decide on the male/female thing. Small or a bit bigger (pros and cons), relaxed or lively dog shall it be?

This summer I still do not work, that’s for sure. And the kids are home almost all day – after the break they come home at noon. So it can be a lot to deal with the canine.

After all, what would be the best dog breed for our family?

Teresa”

The Answer

Teresa, I appreciate that you’ve been addressed your question about the best dog breed for you to me. And I want to assure you that there are no silly questions. I value your detailed description about your situation.

I’m telling you, when the dog getting idea is aroused, you can choose from several options. You can take a purebred puppy, or a cute little mix. Or you can adopt even an adult dog from a shelter, for example. Whatever you choose is good to get to know the main advantages and disadvantages in the beginning.

I’d summarize your situation. You want a family dog which should be adaptive, easily trainable, quiet and vivid at the same time, obedient, and tolerable toward kids. You think that mainly your task would be to look after your prospective canine. You imagine the dog placement and keeping in your yard.

Anyway, the best dog breed – as a kind of – isn’t existed. Everyone has different needs, but all dogs can be perfect for someone. I think; three dog breeds would fit to your situation: the Bernese Mountain, the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. Which is why, let’s talking about one by one.

Why the Bernese Mountain Dog?

The characteristics of Bernese Mountain dog breed contain its peaceful nature, tenderness and true-hearted personality. This breed is very committed to the pack leader (you) as well as the family. In addition, you possibly can teach him without a problem.

This dog breed is trustworthy and gets along very well with your children. The Bernese tolerates the more hyperactive kid as well as  your daughter’s care giving. The Bernese is probably one of many amicable dogs you’ll discover in socialization action with your other household favorites.

What is more, it is a great watchdog, its large stature can be dissuaded alone. He rarely barks. I think a woman can “manage” it with adequate determination. You can read more about the Bernese Mountain breed here.

The Golden Retriever Can Be the Next Best Dog Breed for You

The Golden Retriever dog breed is an even-minded, affable canine. They’re inclined by nature to companionship with others. They possess a benign and biddable nature, sufficiently suppressed and completely tranquil. The barking isn’t its strong point.

The dogs belonging to this breed are quite intelligent and really desirous of work in the interests of you as the pack leader. The Golden Retriever dog can live fine with your other canines. Even so, the male species can coexist together with your other pet problem free. Of course, the early socialization helps you in that – in case you choose a puppy instead of adult dog.

A Golden Retriever is adored for your children’s companion. And, she is tolerating the small badness of kids. However, you must make sure that your children know where the limit is. To illustrate the good nature of this breed; she simply moves away if your children ‘sweat’ her extremely. Click here to read more about the Golden Retriever dog breed.

Lastly, Don’t Miss the Labrador Retriever

Under the assumption that your Labrador Retriever dog is trained, he can be very friendly and fairly obedient. This dog breed is excellent for being children’s mate, simply because their tolerance limit is high enough. The Lab is equipped with its times to becoming very calmed across your household.

However, he might end up being potent and strong if needed in no time. Usually, this breed is very loyal to its owner and is addicted to please you. He prefers to learn new trickeries as well as being an excellent candidate for obedience classes. Here is more knowledge about the Labradors.

Her’s one more aspect. It is not accidental that most of the guide dogs are Labrador or Golden. Namely, they should not ‘jog’ their handlers; they  instructed that way.

Besides these three breed posts I recommend you to read posts you find in my “Choosing” category. Anyway, as for male or female, I recommend you to choose a neutered male dog.

Best Dog Breed From a Shelter

I’m sure, already the pre-schoolers know that the dog is man’s best friend. Unfortunately, he is often a much better friend than as the man for him. That’s the reason of a significant number of ownerless dogs in shelters. Who needs a loyal companion and reliable friend, be sure to find it just right there.

An already developed dog just as devotedly will love you as if you knew him as a puppy. Moreover, this poor creature has tasted the bitter and dangerous side of life very well. So, he will appreciate the security you – the new owner – will provide him as a high value.

I’m saying this as a person who worked in a dog shelter voluntarily, and who keep shelter dogs more than three decades. I believe that you, partly will find an infinitely grateful and loyal companion. On the other hand, you’ll be exempted from the pup rearing nuisances. Think about the trivial but nerve-wracking – chewed, lacerated, dug up, stained, etc. – things.

Alternatively, the implicational cost of vaccinations, treatment of injuries, the puppy’s foods are more expensive, and alike. Anyway, by talking with a vet, your possible preconceptions may be dispelled. And I can assure you that shelter dogs aren’t used cars, which have definitely a flaw that is not in the new one.

All in all, I’m recommending you that after the born of dog buying idea, you talk to your veterinarian, the chosen dog’s breeders and owners, even more occasions. Be curious about the advantages and disadvantages as well, when seeking the best dog breed.

Because, believe me, a solely advantageous purchase does not exist. For consequences caused by your later discovered ignorance, it would be silly to blame the dog. After all, he is often the victim of the problem.

So, Teresa, I recommend you to study the above mentioned breeds and talk with breeders, trainers, shelter staffs and vets. That way, you will make a good decision. I hope; my post was a useful contribution to select the best dog breed for you.

Many successes, 🙂

Alex

Dehydration In Dogs and Consequences

When I wake up from sleep with dried mouth, I drink some water from the glass standing on my bedside table. A similar thing happened even then, when I was a feverish patient. Then I consumed more water or tea or fruit juice to replace the lost fluid volume and to avoid dehydration of my body. When it comes to dehydration in dogs, many people are uninformed about realize this serious problem in time. This article makes you better prepared to avoid the dehydration.

What Is the Dehydration Actually?

The human dehydration is the shortage of fluids in your body. That’s a process that starts when your body gives off more water than your intake. The dehydration usually causes an increase in the sodium level in your bloodstream.

Vomiting, diarrhea, excessive heat, fever, and decreased water consuming for any reason, is resulting in dehydration. The symptoms of dehydration in children may be a dry mouth and tongue, crying without tears, lethargy, and skin dryness.

Dehydration initially stimulates thirst center in your brain. This causes that you want to drink more fluids. If your water intake cannot keep up with the water loss, the dehydration becomes severe in your body. In this case, your body reduces the perspiration, and produces less urine.

If the fluid loss continues on the same extent, the drying out of body tissues will start. The cells begin to shrink and operate erroneously. The brain cells are most susceptible to dehydration include such major signs of severe dehydration of consciousness, coma is increased.

Refreshing-will-prevent-dehydration-in-dogsDehydration in dogs is most frequently the fluid loss involves together with minerals and vitamins such as chloride, sodium and potassium; collectively known as electrolytes. Dehydration in dogs also may be a consequence of some sickness, particularly if your doggie suffers by fever.

Consequences of Dehydration

The effect is similar when your pooch experiences excessive warmth, and some other elements. Our dog friend’s natural act is panting when he feels heat. That causes fluid loss. And that may lead to dehydration if – for some reason – he doesn’t consume water.

Namely, we need to bear in mind that our canines lack sweat glands (unlike the people) to minimize the risk of heat. They pant in order to help to regulate their physique temperature. So, your pooch (panting with his hanging tongue) is a warmed animal.

Whether it’s attributable to sickness, contact with heat, or plainly insufficient fluid consume, you should address the dehydration promptly. If you don’t handle it right away – it’s overlooked often as I observed – the chance of organ fiasco or death in your dog can be multiplied.

Sad to say, but dehydration in dogs can occur extremely easy. It is much simpler than quite a few animal owners think. But, be calm about my friend, it’s also easy to forestall this with sufficient attention. You just need to observe your doggie’s behavior and take steps you can towards treating.

Treating Dehydration In Dogs

If you think that your amazing dog is dehydrated, obtain some water instantly. And you should get him to your veterinarian without delay. Indications of dehydration can encompass improper resiliency to the skin, sunken and dry eyes, dry nose, along with a lack of saliva. Dogs are dehydrated may even end up with a slowdown of their capillary reload time. And the result can be the lassitude – as my vet said to me.

I propose a method to bring to light if your dog is dehydrated. You don’t have to do other than fondly pull your canine’s lip abstain from his gum. Then press your finger contrary to its gum so that the area becomes whiter. Take away your finger and see: the color of gum area should go back to the original nearly promptly.

If you see a slowdown in the color restoration, then that’s a sign of dehydration in dogs. The other checking method is grabbing the skin on the neck of your canine and squeeze it up a bit. If it remain wrinkled and will not recede into the normal mode, your animal is dehydrated.

Letting your dog drink water is the greatest way to replace the lost fluids. However, you shouldn’t allow your severely dehydrated dog to absorb lots at once. It may lead to vomiting and an additional loss of fluids. Instead make sure your dog drink tiny amounts in a period of time.

You can use a hydrating solution to replace the missing electrolytes. The Pedialyte (electrolyte and water combination) is a proven solution for babies in case of their dehydration. And, it also is appropriate for our dogs.

In fact, if your canine refuses to drink or appears dehydrated, you should show him to your vet. Your veterinarian will establish the diagnosis and recommend the right treatment. That step is very important because the dehydration can be a signal of another illness.

If your pet isn’t drinking voluntarily, you need to apply a clean, needleless plastic syringe. Administer the hydrating solution drink in small doses at once to the mouth. Make sure that your doggie ingests that little amount always.

I suggest you consult your vet if symptoms persist, if your animal is deteriorating, or if the condition became serious.

How Am I Preventing the Dehydration In My Dogs

Prevent-dehydration-in-dogs-by-providing-fresh-water I always had the basic principle; prevention is much better than handling any developed problem. Ergo, I always strived to give my dogs enough and fresh drinking water. If you visited my dogs, you would realize that at least one bowl is full with fresh water all the times.

We have quite a large yard and garden. Consequently, I don’t keep our dogs in a kennel, and they aren’t chained as well. And there are four different places giving a nice shady spot for our dogs in the summer heat. Those also help them to check equally the gates and doors and the life outside the fence.

And the water bowls are under the shadow as well. Despite that, we change the water oftentimes to make sure coolness. Furthermore, I use to wash their bowls daily to avoid developing bacteria. I think; the frequent cleaning  is particularly important in summer’s heat.

When I change the water I observe the amount they consumed. Usually, the average daily water consumption of my dogs is around one-ounce water per their pounds in weight. Anyway, observing water consuming is particularly essential if your pooch is recovering from ailments like vomiting or diarrhea.

When I go to walk with them or exercise, I bring along a water bottle in the warmer periods. I use to drink from that and give water to my dogs in a collapsible bowl. When we are traveling, I put enough home water into our car that caters to the needs during the trip. This way, they aren’t forced to drink a who knows what kind of water on the go.

Fortunately, dehydration in dogs is a unknown concept before me because I keep myself to my principles. In my last advices, I’d speak to those of you who are living in a hot and dry climate zone. If your dogs are sensible breeds, keep them air-conditioned-inside as much as your circumstances allow.

My other suggestion to prevent the dehydration in dogs is to supply them moisturized foods. I’m following this practice for quite a long time with success. I do wash their eating bowl after every feeding. You know; doing the little work is worthy to keep my dogs in good health.
