Dear All,

I’ll discuss today about an adopted dog someone took home and returned it back after a week. But, before that I’d like to make an announcement.

But, we are not beyond the Christmas and year-end festive period yet. In the coming days, I look back on time elapsed from the start of this site. And I also prepare the plan for 2014. Naturally, I spend Christmas with my family.

Thinking about my readers who subscribed so far I prepare a report, the topic is dog related of course. Hoping I’ll be able to send you that by the end of this year. The preparations are underway.

And I want to say to you “Thank You” for your support, questions, or suggestions I got this year. I hope I can count on your activity in the next year as well. I’ll do my best to achieve that.

An Adopted Dog Returned

And now, let’s go to the today’s topic. I anticipate that this story was in the news recently, and I felt inclined to write about an adopted dog returned.

Imagine a singer who is pet friendly person and loves the dogs. He was falling in love with a dog from the supply of a rescue foundation, and gladly took it his home. This is nothing special so far; it could happen to any animal loving people.

He renamed the canine from B to C. It was a good dog and was guarding the house well. But, it seems that the animal didn’t want to accept anyone only the singer in question.

As he said: “We liked him very much; C is really a very nice, good dog and a fine watchdog too. C was in our household for a few days when I left my home, and my wife wanted to give him food. But, she still not reached a bowl, and a dog growled and behaved as if he wanted to attack her.”

“I also wanted to introduce my 15-month-old son to him as well to acquaint themselves. Because C was heard the voice of my son from inside only so far. But, unfortunately, C’s behavior was threatening toward my son too. So I decided not to take any risk and discard the dog for family safety.”

Apart from that, the singer didn’t stop to think that the family expanded with an adopted dog. But, he says he is trying to find carefully the matching dog next time.

“Maybe a puppy would be better from the point of view that it could grow together with the child. For this moment, we are not planning another adoption, because this parting of a dog pretty worn us. A dog is not like a pair of pants that’s replaceable by man…”– added the singer.

The said dog is waiting for his loving new owner again at the rescue foundation presently. One of the members of the foundation said that this canine is a really lovable creature. They are looking for him a definitely strong, competent hand.

“This dog is a five years old, very smart, amiable animal, a true watchdog. We recommend him to a family safely, but in any case, he needs a host who is experienced, knowledgeable, and the dog doesn’t think after a day that he is the pack leader. I’m puzzled that he entered being offensive, because that isn’t his attribute at all. In any event, he is also looking forward to his final master.” – says Clare.

adopted-dog-returned“B is a very kind, sociable, truly charismatic dog, is walking nicely on a leash. He is an excellent watchdog and playmate as well. He requires the love and the occupation with him. It’s spayed, vaccinated, equipped with a chip and now is waiting for the final, responsible owner. After a week-long “guest performance,” B has been returned to us again. We brought him back, although we are sure that it would have been a great fan for the family, additionally an excellent watchdog.”

So far the story. The Noteworthy Lessons:

* As I mentioned in one of my other articles, I worked in a dog shelter as a volunteer. Sadly, the majority of the canines in shelters are located there as they had been the subject of inconsiderate buying. Specifically, certain family member or adult individuals rush to adopt a dog, although they neglected to ponder what keeping a dog involves.

I use to examine the circumstances and members in our family, and myself in addition to my time accessible and select accordingly. I’d say, to find a dog is just your first task, however, a really important one. You have to be believed strongly that you, and the animal will probably be the right match to one another. You have to be certain that your household will be the suitable home for that chosen canine.

* Avoid taking home any dog immediately from a sudden “love.” Dependent on their outer traits only you may make a false decision. Namely, their entire character and temperament might stay hidden for you at that minute.

To be aware of these completely you have to be in everyday interaction with the chosen dog. In order to uncover the correct fellow in one another requires time, similar to a great marriage. I use to take to walk the chosen animal three – four times to experience their behavior.

That is indispensable for the basic cognition, then I decide to take it or leave it.

* Your task is to prepare yourself and your family members to the arriving of your chosen animal. I use to make notices when I heard the information the rescue organization staff announces. This information I give to my family, after all, we all will live together with the dog.

It’s advisable that your spouse and kids are aware who is the newcomer. Furthermore, some dog keeping experience also is useful when you intend to take an adult dog having unknown experiences. Dogs in similar age might have entrenched habits you have to be able to handle as a pack leader.

* It’s advisable not to monopolize the dog for yourself. Dogs rehomed in new circumstances require time to understand the family members. And you should accustom the dog to accept food and drink from others from your family. By hand feeding some food your dog (under supervision) will know the smell of that person, that helps in the accepting.

Furthermore, the jealousy related their food, bone or toy is a normal practice for dogs. Of course, with love, patience and persistence you can cease that conduct after a time. And teach your family member to forget anxiety when dealing with. The dog might sense your fear and can be growl or attack.

* Lastly, but not last, older animals don’t like to share their owner’s attention, and love. It occurs many times that these dogs become a so called “one owner only” dogs. Having said that, we have arrived again to the point that we should get to know all info about the dog before we’re taking him home.

Introducing Your Baby To a Dog is not as simple as showing to your cat. When you are ready to present the baby to your dog, please consider the following tips:

Ask someone to hold the dog leash while you take place in a chair with your child into your arms. Put your hand on the baby’s head. (This gesture shows the protection of your baby and at the same time prevents it from being bitten by the dog.)

Do not place the baby on the floor and never hold over the dog’s head, because doing that you compel the dog to jump.

Use a balanced, calm tone when talking to your dog, and sometimes caress him, to feel safe in itself.

If you don’t perceive any aggressive behavior such as growling or tail downward, slowly afford for him to take a closer look at the baby – but do not lick it. The licking is unhealthy might serve as a prelude of biting.

Make sure that your dog’s leash tight enough to be pulled back if necessary. If your dog shows any negative behaviors, answer to him a definite “NO” and command him to move away or drop out of the room. If he listens to your command and goes off independently, reward it.

Even if all goes “smooth,” it is recommended to keep the dog on a leash whenever it is approaching the child, at least the first three weeks still you manage to study his behavior.

Can Dogs Get Colds in Winter Really?

Hi Everyone,

Dogs-related news always attracted my attention. So, I just stumbled upon a news covered pets can get cold appeared on the CBS Las Vegas website. The KXNT Morning News is hosted by Joe Gillespie. He had a guest vet Debbie White, who said noteworthy advices on the subject. Dr. White explained that dogs get colds in chilled weather without your noticing.

She recommended dog owners dress up their dogs with sweaters, particularly if those are short-haired. Furthermore, Dr. White said in the conversation that you should provide your dog a sufficient amount of food and water. But, that’s not enough; you must also pay attention to prevent the drinking water from freezing.

The Cold in Practice

dogs-get-colds-in-winter-easilyI’ve to say I totally agree with Dr. White, based on my experiences. Cold in canines may have occurred and could be attributable to the varied viruses and germs. In this regard, dogs show signs similar to us, humans. Of course, much depends on recognizing the symptoms in its earlier phase.

Our dogs get colds by being around nearness with another, already infected canine, too. Together with this, low immunity levels, stress, and unfriendly climatic conditions could be further contributing factors.

Even so, the majority of dog owners normally have issues distinguish a standard cold from a severe disease. Here is a listing by way of help to make things somewhat simple for you. The list covers a collection of symptom signs that your canine possesses a cold.

Common Cold Symptoms in Dogs

– Runny eyes
– White nose and discharge-flow
– Grumpiness
– Sluggishness
– Coughing
– Sneezing
– Hypothermia

Puppy and Low Temperature

The list of symptoms can be observed in puppies and adult dogs equally. In addition, the new-born dogs don’t even require serious cold to be cool down. They have inherently higher heat demand and their coat is weak. Moreover, they lack the protecting fatty layer under their skin.

The few movements of the newborns and the slower metabolism are also added to the mentioned facts. The process from this point is straightforward: a newborn puppy gives low moaning sound. Then it moves even less, and eventually finishes its life.

After two months of their age, the puppies almost become restless, also they consume more food. Therefore, more and more fat is released within their bodies. Consequently, they are threatened by risk of hypothermia on less and less level.

If You Faced Trouble

In dogs, you have to take the common cold seriously. Namely, if it remains untreated, might have serious consequences. Your dog may exhibit symptoms of the common cold like sneezing, coughing, fever. In those situations mostly health problems – which are weakening the immune system – are behind.

In these cases, the care of the dog’s host is often questionable. Indeed, a puppy who has strong immune system will not get the same disease than his underfed, low-strength mate. By the way, helminthiasis, or other microorganisms also can produce symptoms of the common cold.

Due to the limited energy and liquid reserves, the condition of your dog may be deteriorated rapidly. You, therefore, need to take him to a vet as soon as possible. The speed of the treatment started in time can save lives. Long time dog owners are understandable dread dangerous viruses like distemper and kennel cough.

Elderly Dogs Get Colds

The older dogs get colds easily, terefore, they need protection in winter season. Most of the small, rare-haired old dogs will cool off very easily, especially if they are slim. Unfortunately, the insidious hypothermia goes unnoticed so frequently. Only the increased muscle tone, rigidity will be conspicuous for an inexperienced owner.

If the dog’s body temperature is reduced significantly, malfunction of the internal organs quickly takes place. The most frequent trouble is the renal ceases its service. The liver and the heart muscle is very sensitive to the cold effect. And the rheumatic diseases tend to be worse due to the cold.

As I experienced, you cannot eliminate the damages with rapid warming of the cold animal. The acute inflammation of the kidneys often becomes chronic, and this can be fatal. Therefore, there is no shame in wearing a coat by a weaker or older dog in winter.

Walking on Winter Roads

If possible, avoid walking your dog on the salt-strewn roads. If this is not a manageable option, then smear thick Vaseline or paw protector wax to your dog’s paws before walking outside. This will prevent cracking of the pad’s skin and keep feet away from the salt.

The salt causes burning feeling on the cracked pads, and this can lead to poorly healing wounds. Furthermore, the tiny snow balls and ice pieces sticking into toes also can be a resonwhy dogs get colds in winter. These can be very uncomfortable and painful. So it’s advisable to cut off the hair between the toes in time.

Until next time…

Can Your Dog’s Cost Be Lower?2

Hello Everyone,

We have arrived to the second instalment of reducing dog’s cost. In the previous part, we discussed saving tips on: a) choosing the right dog to fit our budget and b) money-saving options on dog food. Meantime, one of my readers mentioned the grooming expenses she spends monthly. And others are interested in saving on pet sitting costs. These are very good questions, and I say thanks to Ethel, Louis and Claire suggested them. Today we will look at those elements too, but now, I continue with the dog treats and snacks options.

And now I’m unusual because I don’t speak the treats available in pet shops. Why? It seemed for me long ago that the time arrived to begin shopping for dog treats from our grocery store rather pet food retailer. I viewed the storage unit price of top quality treats within our local pet supply.

I found that meat treats could cost more per pound than crayfish. Another item (salmon jerky) is costlier compared to the smoked salmon I purchased. Going further between containers some bear-shaped cookies were more expensive than the cheese imported from Italy.

And by visited forums I read about canines turned into unwell or dying from cheap treats, I purchased for my dogs solely the best.

Low-cost Secure Grocery Retailer Treats

This is my listing among the finest dog treats you’ll discover in your grocery store or supermarket. These won’t cost an arm and leg and simultaneously; your dog will consuming them happily and will remain healthy.

carrots-as-healthy-dog-treatsApple Cubes – I use to make cubes from them and my dogs eat them gladly.

Carrots – I slice and store them in the fridge in ice water. They like them because the pieces stay crispy that way.

Cheese – I use to give them in a little amount to avoid diarrhea.

Chicken – Cooking them in a crock pot until the meat separated from the bone is easy. The resulting stock can be useful in many recipes.

Liver – I use to slice it into thin pieces and dehydrate them. It’s advantageous to buy organic liver. Doing so, the antibiotics and chemicals conventional agriculture apply to don’t enter the food.

Liverwurst – It also called as dog crack somewhere. It’s a superb high-value treat, but I use it moderately.

Sweet Potatoes – I prepare from them dehydrated thin slices (in the oven). Of course, I wash their skin or peel them before. In a plastic container, I can easily keep them for 2 – 3 weeks unspoiled.

turkey-hot-dogs-as-dog-treatsTurkey Hot Dogs – In the event, you don’t like dealing with them raw, put slices inside a dehydrator. Alternatively, put in a baking sheet within the oven of 170 degrees until they puff up, and their moisture goes out. Then I put them in a plastic container into the freezer.

Yogurt (frozen) – I use to add two tablespoons of peanut butter to a cupful of yogurt. Then I stir and freeze the mixture until shaped the tartlet pan.

There’s no valid justification your family dog’s rewards should be a commercial dog treats solely. So, I also use to prepare homemade dog biscuits, the recipe is here. And it’s not bad, I confess I use to taste them after baking.

Saving Money on Dog Grooming

I’m convinced I don’t need to emphasize the importance of systematic dog grooming for dog lover people. I also discussed about that here recently. Now you can find some additions.

I use to do grooming procedures like brushing/combing, bathing, haircut and nail clipping on my own. Getting the necessary supplies designed for dogs isn’t problematic. And I need to purchase the tools once and use them for many years.

Of course, I haven’t started doing dog grooming the day before yesterday. I was lucky enough to observe people older than me – such as shepherds, hunters and dog breeders – as they did the grooming processes.

And Dr. Francis Header, our veterinarian decades ago was my other help in this area. For example, among others, he showed me the removal method of a dewclaw nearly fifty years ago. And also he advised me which tool is suitable for performing a different task.

One of my readers, Ethel said she doesn’t like to leave her doggies at the pro groomer daylong. And the carrying back and forth also is problematic to her, not to mention the $140 expense for two Spaniel doggies monthly.

I understand her and only can recommend you to follow my example and learn to make the necessary grooming home. Invest in a good set of sharp clipping tools that serve you long. Enter the “dog grooming courses on DVD” into your browser and the Internet will give you a tremendous result to learn. Follow the same process if you prefer books to videos or DVDs.

My secret tip1: I use surgical scissors rather dog grooming scissors, they are cheaper, but do the task just as well. Secret tip2: The diluted baby shampoo is excellent to bathe my dog, has the more subtle smell, and cheaper than dog shampoo. (This tip originated from a vet working for a pharmaceutical giant.)

Saving on Dog Sitter Expenses

working-dog-sitter Are you intended to go out of town for getting a weekend? Hiring a dog sitter doesn’t demolish your budget necessarily. Fortunately, there are various ways to identify an affordable sitter – for between $15 and $35 per day. You can begin with asking your vet for suggestions.

And additionally, you may deliberate to search at Pet Sitters International or as well as National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. It’s a good move to be certain your dog sitter is committed, insured and licensed by a pro organization.

There is another possibility, you just visit the petsitterswap.com website. Pet Sitter Swap is helpful to individuals with dogs, cats and various other domesticated animal. As they say dogs and other pets prefer them. Because of their swap service, the animals are free from staying in cattery or kennel.

P.S.: My friends, share your related tips and help other dog lovers just like you! Next time I’ll cover the veterinary cost reduction opportunities. Thank You!

Considering Your Dog Grooming Needs

Hi Everyone!

Before we discuss about the dog grooming needs of your pet, I’ll mention our daily actions.  I’m in a good mood because we have a new family member. At the day before yesterday, I got a German Shepherd mix puppy from a local rescue organization. The introducing the newcomer to Zizi went quite smoothly; she accepted Lisa (the puppy) instantly. (That’s meant if your dog trusts you, I believe.) Lisa gradually became acquainted with other members of my family. She has mapped out her new living space, which will be the two of them thereafter. But, let’s get to your dog’s grooming needs.

Due to the rainy weather, the soil soaked up, so the paws’ cleaning and dog bathing followed our walking with Zizi today. I took away the mud from her toes and also examined them for possibly injury. The next step of dog grooming was to comb her hair and bathe the ‘lady’ full. I rubbed her coat thoroughly by towel and ended the canine grooming process with a hair dryer. I found she is also preparing for the winter and grows her hair anyway.

I’m lucky enough with her coat. Given that she is a Labrador and German Shepherd mix, she requires only simple maintenance, like hair brushing. Anyway, the dog grooming seems like an art for beginner dog owners as I experienced. And it really can be an art if you go from primary canine care to virtually spa-like coddling.

Grooming Requirements of Different Coat Types

Before going any further, you’ve to accept that dog grooming isn’t merely an indulgence. Rather it’s an unavoidable necessity. Your doggie which doesn’t get correct grooming on a timely method is susceptible for gingivitis, sickness, parasites and harm to skin and fur equally.

The fundamental grooming necessities determined by your dog’s breed as well as his / her characteristics. Based on those, your dog’s hair can be short, long, straight, wavy, silky, coarse, and combinations thereof, too. And you, as a pet owner, will handle the canine hair in beginning.

komondor-dog-grooming-needs-are-frequent

A Komondor Dog Grooming Needs Are Frequent

Lengthy haired canines that shed are required grooming more often than short coated fellows or those that solely shed periodically. Those dogs equipped with frizzy or curly hair want day by day care to remain detangled and take away particles or foliage. Namely, that will be caught within the coat as your animal is walking or exercising outside.

Hiring Dog Grooming Professionals

And do not deny, but bringing your family dog to a professional groomer on the weekly basis may be costly. Obviously, if you want to bring your favorite to dog shows, then you should take the expenses involved. And, if you’d like to give the best for your furry friend, you may also rent mobile dog groomers.

Those people are operating a complete grooming station within their vans. These professionals are parking in your driveway and perform the whole grooming process onboard. This is a superb comfort and avoids the “moist dog” odor lingering within your bathroom. To economize, it’s also possible doing most of the primary dog grooming methods yourself if you learn those.

Dog Grooming on Your Own

Of course, your four-legged mate might not be thrilled about receiving bathing, but that shouldn’t limit you. Bathing is definitely a well being concern for pets similar to how it is due to people. You will not cease to bathing your toddler simply because she shrieks at tub time, will you?

If you’re uncertain about the proper techniques doing brushing, de-tangling and bathing your pet’s coat, look for the best online resource. Alternatively, you can possibly ask for watching the elements of dog grooming at a groomer. You might also take a course from a vet’s workplace or a pet retailer.

Those classes help you to get familiar with the proper techniques. Additionally, you can obtain some professional recommendations on how to handle your family dog’s nervousness or fears throughout grooming process.

WARNING! The skin underneath of your canine’s fur could be sensitive extremely. So, keep away from aggressive scrubbing when bathing your animal. Otherwise, you w’ll be able to remove excessive body oils that defend skin and fur follicles equally.

I Use To Do It This Way

I use to avoid shampoo, scents or powder and alike, which isn’t designed for apply with canines. Applying those is doing more harm than good as well as an unnecessary vet bill. Namely, those products may cause infection or irritation in your dog’s skin.

Thus, if some product isn’t dedicated for my dog or her fur, then I never use that. Certainly, you’re understand the importance of being patient during grooming. I always take time to speak fondly to my dog and rub her belly or shoulder.

These contribute to develop a joyful feeling and quality dog grooming process. For instance, if I’m impatient, then I don’t even begin this operation. My canine would be difficult to manage if she discovered my impatience.

Dog Grooming Tools

Dog's-grooming-toolsOf course, to reach success in grooming requires correct tools. Please, don’t use the outdated hairbrush of your family in your canine. Acquire particular combs and brushes that are designed for your pet’s fur. You’ll not lower your expenses using your throw-away when you injure your dog’s skin with those.

I believe, your dog doesn’t miss the pain (you might cause), and also you a high veterinary bill. Apart from that, you would possibly save some cash by bringing your dog to a groomer monthly or bi-weekly. For example, you’re able to do plain hair brushing or deal with the bath every two weeks (if necessary).

Conclusion

When your dog friend spends the majority of its time open air, you continuously need to do primary grooming. Without cleanliness, your family dog can be subject to different parasite colonization, which may give him a hard time. The dog grooming is a necessary part of keeping up with your dog’s health as well. His or her good looks and your peace of mind deserves that.

P.S.: Did you find this article helpful? If yes, please share it with your friends so they can benefit from reading. If you find it unavailing, please tell your enemies about it. And don’t forget to speak your mind as well. Thank You!

How to Fix Shy Dog’s Behavioral Problem?

The Problem

“Alex, what should I do with my dog? You know, I’ve a seven-month old German Shepherd female doggie, and some problem is with her’s behavior. She is trying to be a chief inside our house like an assertive leader individuality. We have two other dog at home; one of them is a thirteen years-old mixed breed, and the other is a two years’ GSD as well.

shy-dog-will-I-be-safe-hereThe point is that her conduct changes suddenly toward the opposite direction as soon as we exit through our gate. She becomes a shy animal to people or other dogs. Obviously, there are other dog walkers too, but I cannot stop to talk with them.

She starts a tantrum, and is hiding behind my back; she just steps into my butt. This ‘hiding behind me’ phenomenon occurs even when guests arriving to us. Once happened that I started a conversation with another dog walker handled two canines in the park. The two wanted to get to know her.

She jerked out the leash from my hand and almost ran home until I could catch her. I asked for second opinion, and they told she is precarious, considering she came from a rural farm two months ago. I don’t understand why because we love her and has everything she’s necessary. What should I do?”

Probable Reasons of Dog’s Shyness

The question above was a part of a conversation between a friend and me at our mutual hairdresser. There may be some things behind this behavior. Given that we are talking about a young dog which lives in good conditions, we need to refer to her early times. She presumably would feel herself comfortable if she were yet between those familiar conditions.

However, put ourselves into the position of this young canine (speaking figuratively). Her situation has changed; her living conditions are already others in an urban environment. She experiences new sounds and sights as well as situations, which are unfamiliar to her. She didn’t meet with so many people, dogs, street traffic, etc. before. Therefore, to catch a decent start is difficult for her in a unknown place.

I would say, she misses a good socialization which includes the habituation to these elements. And, don’t forget that all puppy experience a phase influenced by fear around their two months of age. This is one of their early stages of learning about the world. Experiencing some frightening thing during this timeframe may make them shy.

Experiences show, they’ll even be subjected to another concern in some interval between their six – fourteen months. Depending on the breeds and species this can take place even at their seventh months of age, as the dog in question is now.

Obviously, you may have a canine that got an excellent socialization and habituation to different situations. But, such vagueness and worry may occur related some stuff that won’t have disturbed them before. So, this can be a tense period to your young dog.

I  used to care to avoid horrifying situations by all means at this timeframe. And I’m trying to make countless good associations as much as possible. Anyway, the rationale she attempted to break free after which get away when possibility occurred might be that canines’ first response within a difficult scenario is an escape.

Fixing the Shy Behavior Problem

What would I do? In another post, I discussed how to overcome car travel stress in dogs. The main character of that story is also a puppy I rescued from the street. I also would apply the similar kind and slow accustoming to things.

shy-puppyAnd once she gets trust toward me then I’d produce challenging situations gradually, step by step. I’d not to drive her to handle more and more. She wouldn’t be able to deal with too much so quickly. And you would make a continuous issue which can be avoidable anyway.

And my next suggestion is to discuss your visitors to disregard her. I know from experience; people like to gain up doggies. They are prone to talk to pooches and attempt to caress them hoping dogs will take that gladly. But, people ignore one serious thing.

With their approach, they step into the dog’s personal space, and that might be interpreted as an offensive gesture. You need to ask them completely neglect the doggie as she isn’t existing. Tell your guests to do not even have a look at her.

Moving Gradually

This way, the canine will interpret the situation not offensive. She’ll perceive that your guest people do not pose a threat to her, and – after a time – she will be calm, then curious. You may make the process more smoothly by giving some tasty treats to your visitors previously when they are seated.

I would observe the process from the corner of my eye. When my canine becomes curious, I would praise her kindly. And I’d encourage my guests to throw her a piece or two treats gently. If she has accepted it, I’d ask them slowly to repeat the process. And the tasty treat – by chance – will be nearer and nearer to guests at every attempt.

I’d ask my visitors to be very patient during this process and still avoid eye contact with the pooch! They would repeat this until the treat falls by their armchair. At this time I’d let them to tell gentle words to her, without eye contact. If my canine accepted the treat and wouldn’t go away because of the speaking, then I’d allow the careful touch by my visitors and a short eye contact. This could take some time undoubtedly. However, to eliminate her timid conduct at her tempo is highly desirable.

Apply This Approach Outside

You possibly can apply something similar approach to accustom her to individuals on streets or neighbours and your buddies. Hold a certain distance from them of course, as well as let her go behind you if she would like too. You similarly give the people treats so if she reveals curiosity, they may perform the described scenario.

However, people shouldn’t even have a look at her! You then do in a similar way as with your guests did in your own home previously. In case you have family or friends and even buddies with mild and calm canines you then additionally do manage to accustom in the identical manner. Allow her to keep behind if she needs to at beginning.

Sustain a cushy distance to start with after which do the slow introduction scenario at her pace. And maybe bringing them for a collective on lead walks to begin with keeping a distance she’s pleased with also would be efficient.

Alex

P.S. Plenty of brief and kind experiences are what’s going to help you. But, you might have to wait a time until she really feels settled sufficient. Thus don’t give up at the first few failure cases. Many successes!

Meet the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel2

Previously, I wrote about the interesting history of the Cavaliers. Now it will take place their appearance, personality, health considerations and my experiences gained with them. Let’s go!

The Look of This Doggie

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is small in stature with lovely eyes along with mild expression. He has been padding underneath their eyes that give him the specially gentle physical appearance to their face.

This animal possesses lengthy ears, silky and typically wavy coats. And they are occurred in shades of stable ruby, Blenheim, black and tan, and tricolor. That’s chestnut throughout the white background.

In addition, they sport feathering onto their chest, feet and legs. Its tail is usually docked. However, because of law changing in Britain that has been much less frequent, by mainly household dogs.

As for its size, he stands from twelve to thirteen inches at shoulder height. Their weights are between thirteen and eighteen pounds. Males are heavier; they might reach the 25 pounds in weight sometimes.

Regarding their body, they’re barely longer than tall; however, some could be more square in proportion.

I need to mention here the grooming requirements. Considering its coat, it might seem like labor intensive, yet this breed is quite easy to upkeep. You need to brush him a couple of occasions weekly to get rid of unfastened hair. With that activity, you prevent tangles developing and maintain the shining of its coat.

As for bathing, you only have to bathe this animal as essential. However, energetic Cavaliers would require extra frequent washing than the lazier. Trimming isn’t necessary, though some dog owners like to trim the toes for the cleanness sake.

These canines require a reasonable amount of the train daily. You can fulfil that with a few brief strolling or possibly a romp within your yard. This is a dog breed that isn’t supposed to reside outside.

Personality

The Cavalier currently deserves its distinguished name. He’s that kind of small dog that likes if you carry him along with you everywhere. He thank you for this with exemplary conduct, assuming they have received some education. However, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is easy to teach.

cavalier-king-charles-spaniel-as-santaThat’s because one of his most striking features is the impart the like. He makes an effort to cheer us up and hit on us, so this doggie is very welcome and highly easy to learn. It’s being entertained, if he can do something for us. Thus, he is involved in everything with great venturing willingness.

This is a really old-school Prince, whom few can resist. With his open nature, radiated fun and cute look, he wins not only the family, but also friends and even strangers’ heart. Whether it’s child or an animal, the Cavalier is friendly with everybody.

He loves the harmonious co-existence; therefore, he’s the ideal family dog. It’s spirited and fearless, but turns with positive orientation toward all living things. So if it is little, if large, if a stranger or if familiar, he greets everyone friendly.

Health Information

The life timeframe of the Cavaliers may vary between eight on up to fifteen years. The main health issues that could be emerging are CHD, insufficiency in mitral valve, and syringomyelia. Minor wholesome problems embrace patellar luxation and entropion.

WARNING! You must to check the lengthy ears of the Cavalier Spaniel every week for symptoms of infection or redness. Your vet can suggest a solution to apply weekly that can preserve dangerous micro organism at bay. Tooth brushing weekly will help keep gums wholesome and stop unpleasant breath from developing.

My Experiences With Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

I was fortunate enough to collect experiences on a few species of this breed before. When I worked in a local shelter I fostered two of them. They were very grateful for care and attention I provided them. One of the twins was homeless, equipped with parvo. But, it has been treated by our vet.

The other was an unvaccinated dog rescued from a bad house. I cured her nasty open wound filled with exudate at home with Betadine. After a few treatments the wound almost disappeared.

I paid special attention to their ears because of their sensitivity. The ears of nine from ten Cavaliers might be inflamed at least once in their lifetime, particularly if you overlooked it. But, it can be treated easily.

As for exercising, they were hilarious at walking too. And they also endured pretty well the longer trips as well. I kept odd; however, that of one of my friends’ Cavalier didn’t require walking. However, it’s true that he didn’t have enough time.

P.S.: Are you familiar with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed? Or maybe, there is one of them in your house? Tell me about your common everyday life, how you are enjoying each other. Thank You!

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

Dog Tails Should Be Docked?

I’m experiencing some debate – especially in Europe – when it comes to dog tails should be docked or not. There are people who feel that it is unnecessary or even cruel to dock a dog’s tail. They think that tails are docked for purely cosmetic reasons, and that practice should be stopped. However, the tails of dogs of some breeds have been docked for centuries for non-cosmetic reasons. Here’s why.

Traditions

Throughout history, the tails of some breeds have been docked for different reasons. At various times some dog owners were taxed by their governments depending on how many dogs with tails they had so dog owners docked the tails of some breeds in order to avoid paying the taxes.

pointer-dog-with-docked-tailEven after the taxes were repealed, owners continued to dock the breeds they had begun docking for other reasons. A great number of breeds were and are docked to prevent injury. This applies particularly to hunting dogs.

Health Aspects

Dogs who work in the field are prone to collecting burrs and foxtails in heavy cover as well as hurting their tails while wagging. This leads to wounds, pain and infection. Docking the tail prevents these injuries.

For other breeds, tails are traditionally docked for the sake of cleanness. People want to keep feces from becoming attached to long fur. For some guarding and herding breeds, tails have been docked to prevent injury while working.

In virtually every case where a breed standard calls for tail docking there is a reason for the docking relating to concern for the dogs’ welfare.

Controversy

Opponents of tail docking claim that dogs today could be allowed to have long tails or could be bred to be tailless. Dog owners, breeders, and plenty of veterinary surgeons are an opponent of this opinion. They share their point of view that if docking discontinued, the canines would be forced to suffer.

As for breeding dogs without a tail, here is an example. In one breed, the Braque du Bourbonnais, French breeders tried to breed for taillessness and ended up with an extinct breed. They are only now trying to bring their breed back from extinction by breeding half-bred dogs.

They were so focused on breeding for dogs with no tails that their numbers dwindled to zero. The same thing can happen to any breed that becomes fixated on one trait.

The Tail Docking

Tail docking is done on puppies when they are just a few days old. So, there is no evidence that they feel any more pain from tail docking than puppies feel from having their dew claws removed.

The American Kennel Club states the further supports tail docking, as well as ear cropping and dew claw removal. In breeds that call for dogs with docked tails, individual parent clubs decide whether or not dogs with long tails are allowed to be shown at dog shows.

In the UK tail docking is banned except for working dogs used for their traditional job of work.  Any dog is a working canine if a vet has certified that the animal is likely to be used for work. That relates in connection with the following law enforcement, armed forces’ activities, emergency rescue, lawful pest control, and the legal shooting of animals.

The Canadian Kennel Club, like the AKC, supports the practice of tail docking when performed on young puppies. So, around the world numerous Kennel Clubs acknowledge approximately fifty dog breeds docked traditionally.

My Observations

boxer-with-docked-tailI dealt with Vizsla and Doberman, and Boxer dog was in our household too. I experienced they wag their tails very intensively because of being hyperactive. These dogs’ tail develops without hair, so there is nothing to protect it. Moreover; the skin is thin there. Due to these things, they are quite vulnerable.

The animal smashed its tail to something, and at best, it became “only” bloody by beating up to the bone, at worse it will be broken. Unfortunately, I have seen more of these cases during decades. That tremendously hurt the adult dog, after all – by medical recommendation – the cutting was applied.

Similarly, to us humans, that wound is much painful, and the healing takes considerably longer. In contrast, newborn puppies have soft cartilages, and nervous system isn’t developed, so they feel nothing. I have seen that the shepherd cut the tail of newborn little lambs.

The little newborns didn’t notice that, namely they didn’t squeak at all. They romped around as if nothing had happened to them. Albeit, they’re more developed at their birth than dog puppies. And I’m an advocate of the “rational” animal protection.

P.S.: Share your experiences related to this topic. Thank You!

Thanks to Talk Our Dogs Readers & Subscribers!

Hi everyone!

I’m writing this post on Friday – the day before the weekend. The weather is spoiling us with brilliant sunshine. We deserved that because we saw the rain clouds only during four days. I decided this article will be other than most of the previous. The reason is twofold. Firstly, I’d like to say to thank you for my subscribers publicly for their support. Secondly, I intend to give you here some additions to my “about me” page.

Saying Thank You

To start from the beginning, it wasn’t easy for me to unbosoming myself to the world. I’m not so extroverted like a celebrity who shares even their bedroom affairs with the universe. And I do not declare myself an expert. I just love the animals and that feeling started sixty-five years ago – at least, so I recall.

And believe me, I’ve seen a thing or two during this period. I like to write about dog topics occur in dog owners’ everyday life. Due to that concept, you may find fewer chit-chats in my articles, although I’m not an opponent of building relationships.

Far from it! Nevertheless, only so much time is in a day for me besides other commitments I’ve. However, as I experienced, you, my readers and subscribers appreciate the meat in an article. I tried to write about dog-related topics I had the pleasure to get to know so far. But I try to keep up with the latest trends as well.

I also got several feedbacks on this in emails and comments, and now I’m saying a Big Thank You for your kind support!

About Choosing Topics

As for the choice of subjects, before I started this site, I was thinking about pre-programmed, themed topics. Not much time elapsed, and I found it is better for the readers – and myself, too – if I’m dealing with the problems arising daily. Due to that, I have no shortage of subjects. And that’s the reason if one or other category contains more or less articles.

For instance, you meet different dog persons during walking with your canine. You can do discussions when you’re purchasing dog food, toys, equipments, etc. for your favorite in stores and markets. I often got topic ideas when meet other canine owners in a club.

Moreover, I’ve to mention the dog races and shows I visited occasionally. Furthermore, my habit is to discuss with vets and staff of a shelter I worked as a volunteer before. One of my engagements is reading pet-related news on the net.

Of course, my dog owner or prospective canine keeper readers also suggest topics which they are interested in. I ask you, my readers and subscribers, keep this good habit in the future, too. Please, do not hesitate to ask, I’ll try to do my best to answer your questions.

About My Love for Dogs

As you may know from the above, my parents familiarized me with animals as a little kid. There were different domestic animals in our household, among dogs as well. Furthermore, my grand dad dealt with flocks at that times, so I met shepherd dogs, too.

In the household, I spent my childhood, there was a Hungarian Kuvasz called Swan. She was a very good sidekick, and allowed me a lot. I loved to be with her, and my parents educated me being responsible to Swan. I took part in her feeding, watering, cleaning and exercising.

Due to the bonding developed between the two of us, I was mentally down when she passed away. I became bedridden. Medicaments were ineffective. One of the sheepdogs of my granddad was the right medication for me. I often think back to that fur balls with love; he was Curier, a Puli. 🙂

How It Continued?

In my further life, I met many kind of dog breeds. Some of them lived in my kennel, others I met in the shelter mentioned above. I’d be in a big trouble if I should have to count their numbers. Apart from that, there are quite a few breed stood close to me.

Just name a few besides above mentioned:

Lobo – Bernese Mountain Dog

Doris – Boxer

Bear – Komondor

Courier – Puli

Roll – German Shepherd (rescued)

Manu – Siberian Huski (rescued)

Ficus – Mudi mix (rescued)

Nero – Mixed breed (rescued)

Tik-tak – Wirehaired Foxterrier (rescued)

Zizi – Labrador / German Shepherd mix (rescued)

Anyway, they are those canines I wrote about in my book, too. Of course, dealing with different dogs wasn’t cloud-free always. The solution of problems from time to time helped my progress in dog keeping as well. So, what I know about dogs nowadays, I collected from living with them.

And now there are few pictures from the city I live: (pictures open in new window)

P.S.: I hope I could give you some addition to know who I am. But, if you’ve any question, topic proposal, constructive critics, etc. please put hesitation aside and speak your mind in the comments. I’ll do my best to satisfy your needs. Thank You!

How to Live With Handicapped Dogs?

Dogs are very much like us humans. The remembrance of canines is so much more human-like. Their memory is permitting our best friend to imitate our actions, even with some delays. Majority of them see the world in any specific second relatively as people do. But there are other similarities as well. For instance, dogs can have the same kind of handicaps that people possess.

They may lose a limb, be born deaf or blind, or experience handicaps due to declining health in later years. There are also some health problems that would qualify a dog as handicapped such as megaesophagus problems or other congenital issues.

(When your dog has megaesophagus, the gullet expanded so it doesn’t push food items down to the stomach. Due to this fact, what your dog eats fails to take into the gastric. And sometimes the food stays within the esophagus, and is ultimately regurgitated. Alternatively, it declines within the esophagus or enters the lungs via breathing.)

The megaesophagus illness can occur in dogs, cats and humans anyway. All in all, for you, the owner, living with your dog that has a drawback can be a challenge.

Preparing Yourself and Your Home

If you are living with a handicapped dog, then you probably already know that you may spend more than your share of time at your vet’s office. It is important to get a good diagnosis and to have a vet who you trust. Your dog’s care and quality of life will depend on establishing a suitable working relationship with your vet.

Consequently, find a veterinarian who understands your dog’s condition and who will talk to you about your dog. Don’t be afraid to ask for referral to a specialist if necessary. There are continual veterinary advances so it’s a good idea for you to try to do your own research. This way, you are aware of any new treatments that could help your dog.

When it comes to living with a handicapped dog, it’s possible that you will need to make some special adjustments in your home for your canine. For example, if your dog has trouble walking you may need to assist him with a harness when he goes up and down stairs.

There is a chance that you live with a blind dog. Then it’s a good idea to keep large pieces of furniture in the same positions. This way, your dog will become accustomed to where they are and plot his course around them. If you move, then he will bump into things.

Treating Handicapped dogs

Some dogs are able to handle some handicaps much more easily than others. Deaf dogs often can be trained to learn hand signals. Using hand signals you can train your dog in all the typical obedience commands and many other orders.

As long as your dog can see you, he will be able to follow your commands. If your dog is unilaterally deaf – hard of hearing in one ear – you probably won’t even know that he has any deafness at all.

paralized-handicapped-dogDogs which have lost a limb are usually well able to compensate and are very mobile on three legs. I have seen examples of this, and more than one. There are dogs, which have severe problems with two limb. I mean those canines which are paralyzed in their hind legs.

They can be fitted with a cart or wheelchair and remain very active. The wheelchairs can be collapsed and taken by the dog when he travels. Some dogs are still able to go hiking with their owners using their wheelchairs.

As the Years Passes

It may happen that you have an elderly dog which is beginning to develop some handicaps. Then you will need to take each one separately and try to work through the problem. If your dog’s eyesight is beginning to fail, for instance, help your dog down steps at night. Walk him outside to potty, especially if he has problems seeing through shadows at night.

If his hearing is starting to fail, expect to call him a few times before he comes or goes to find him and bring him in for dinner. If he is developing some arthritis, talk to your vet to see if he may need some pain medication to help him.

Conclusion

Living with the handicapped dogs isn’t always easy but canines are much more resilient than we sometimes believe. They can often overcome great difficulties. If your dog has a handicap, then try to find some creative ways to help him make his life easier. Your dog will be willing to work with you and try new things as long as you make the effort.

P.S.: Are you living with a handicapped dog? What is the nature of this handicap? How do you managing your common daily life? If you share your story in the comment, others may get ideas or encouragement from it. Thank You!
