More or less, dog treats might  become stale before you give them to your pets, even those in zip top containers. Of course, no one gives a ruined treat to his or her favorite so you do not also expect dogs to consume them.

Jar Types for Storing Fresh Dog Treats

You can keep the fresh dog treats safe just as the day you got them from the groceries by storing them in dog treat jars. The jars’ advantage is they keep out the air and moisture. Aside from that, dog treat jars can also be a great decoration for display.

The dog treat jars available throughout the market in different sizes, designs, colors, embellishments, and shapes. Because of the increasing demands of this item, most dog treat jar makers personalize the designs according to the owner’s preference.

However, if you want to grab your own customized, handy and inexpensive dog treat jars, you can actually create your own. You just need to follow the simple instructions below.

DIY Treats Jar

glass-jar-for-fresh-dog-treats-before-decorationYou will need a glass jar, large and clear enough. Also grab some contact papers in colors of your selection, air-dry clay, acrylic paints in different colors, pencil, epoxy glue, and scissors.

For the jar, you can pick the pickle jars. Wash and clean them dry, together with its lid. Select a contact paper color that will complement the color of your kitchen or place where you’re likely display the dog treat jar. You can choose from the dozens of patterns and colors available.

Make use of the contact papers to design and cut dog figures. You can place them as decorations on the jar. For instance, you can create large balls for the dog’s body, smaller balls for its head, and air-dry clay for its arms and legs.

The experiences show that home made canine treats that remain in a dog treat jar situated on your counter stand the test of time a lot longer in a dry and cool surroundings than one, which is stay in humid and scorching environment.

Another aspect in storing is the light as your dog treats adversary. Of course, I actually mean the direct shiny daylight and warmth as your enemies. My best advice could be to store your do-it-yourself dog treats in a cool and darkish as well as a dry place.

Please, deliberate this couple of things with regards to store the home-made fresh dog treats. It’s definitely worth the effort. Your doggie will probably be having fun with your baking efforts for a lot of weeks!

Can Your Dog’s Cost Be Lower?3

My dog lover Friends, this is the third part in the row of saving money on our dogs. The first part covered the Choosing the Dog to Fit Our Budget and Saving Options on Dog Food. The Low-Cost Treats, Savings on Grooming and Affordable Pet Sitters were the topics in the second installment. Now, I’m dealing with the vet expenses, the serious part of costs of dog keeping which also can be reduced.

By way of introduction, I’m much less inclined to visit our vet for minor issues until natural remedies last. This is possible because of two things: partly, I perform daily checks related to dogs’ healthy status. On the other hand, during my long dog keeping experience, I’ve learned a thing or two. So, I can perceive the possible symptoms in time and administer home remedies on my own.

Even so, I still fed my dogs according to my dog feeding method, and have Dog Insurance coverage, for all eventualities. I sustain heartworm, tick and flea prevention and provide Zizi and Lisa plenty of attention. Due to these, our dogs are healthy, amazing household dogs and show true connection toward us.

Acting In Time Is Cheaper

daily-checkingThe daily checking is important also from that aspect that it’s much easier to treat something at the beginning than later. Imagine, for some reason, you postpone checking and care until a scenario worsens. This is harshness towards your animal, but we are talking about the cost now. What do you think how much will it cost you?

It can be predictable that you’ll very likely pay a great deal for vet care. Namely, an emergency veterinary care, specifically, could cost many times more than a common office visit. And it really is usually a last option once your canine gets sick throughout Sunday when local vet facilities could be closed.

It pays to think ahead a little as well. For example, to prevent problems in winter, I use to apply Shea butter (useable in foods and cosmetics) on Zizi’s nose and paws.

Seek Actions In Vet Clinics

There are vet clinics where you can get low-cost spay and neuter care on a first-come-first-serve principle. The staffs of these clinics are often vet technicians, so they are proficient but not physicians. Consequently, they don’t substitute an appointment which entails more sophisticated knowledge.

For example, my neighbor could find her dog’s annual vaccines for $25, and neuter for approx $55. The local animal shelter also may offer services on a lower fee then a non-public vet. To get info related to this the ASPCA website is definitely a useful source.

Free Vet Clinics

You may furthermore find smaller spay-neuter non-profit organization whose mission is usually to make this service accessible to almost everybody. You can search on the Internet for ‘low price spaying/neutering’ to view what’s domestically attainable for you.

You also can consult with the local Humane Society for low-cost or free of charge spay/neuter packages and reduced-price shot clinics. Say, you’ve four canines. You can get vaccinated them for what it will cost for one on your vet’s office.

Some even provide vouchers to aid with veterinarian expenses for individuals in need. Alternatively, they can offer info on other companies that are able to help you.

In case you can document unemployment or any monetary difficulty, a few of them provide this service free of charge. Moreover, at free clinics, you can obtain rabies vaccination and micro chipping for your dogs for only $10 compared to the common $35-50.

Other Helping Organizations

Converse with your veterinarian in the event you’re fighting your vet expenses. Many vet clinics are driven to establish payment plans. And a few even run donated funds put aside to assist dog owners who struggle.

You also can consult with your canine’s breed organization. Some dog clubs nationwide establish funds offered to help with veterinary expenses.

Another possibility is to look for charities that provide aid for pet owners. For instance, on the website of the Humane Society of the United States, there is a page with dedication to assist you in finding financial help and a collection of cash-saving guidelines for animal lovers.

Reducing Vaccinations

Limiting the vaccinations also can be a solution. When you vaccinate your puppy yearly, take time to read up on the risks that could reach by over-vaccination.

In reality, many vet faculties are actually teaching that vaccinating each years is a lot. And quite a few holistic specialists believe that pup shots could provide life-time coverage.

Medicaments’ Prices

prescribed-drugThe costs for prescribed drugs diverge extensively between different pharmacies. Namely, the U.S. drug pricing is neither fastened nor regulated. The price of a prescription might be varied by greater than $100 between two pharmacies around the corner from one another!

In case you’re without insurance, it is simple to get a favorable price. Whereas costs for many medicines at pharmacies are huge for an uninsured person, there are ways to gain up to eighty percent discount. There are available coupons, financial saving tips, manufacturer or pharmacy reductions, low-cost alternative medication, or simply inquiring for a better price.

You just use GoodRx’s drug price search to make a price comparison – similar to you do for electronics or travel on other websites. And you’ll find your medication at pharmacies close to your living area. This website don’t promote the drugs; they let you know where you are able to get the best deal on medicines.

GoodRx is showing you costs, coupons, reductions and savings suggestions on your medicaments at pharmacies near you. Here’s their website: http://www.goodrx.com/

Pet Insurance

Knowledgeable opinions fluctuate on whether or not an insurance for a pet is a wise funding. That’s because many insurance plans include protection maximums and restrict coverage for hereditary circumstances or problems ordinary to your dog’s breed.

But, the proper insurance plan for a pet may mitigate the financial blow of unexpected medical emergencies. You just make absolutely certain to look around and browse the fine print before choosing your variation.

When you’ve got a family dog develop an expertise to be involved into a hassle, the pet insurance could be significantly helpful for you.

Conclusion

My Friend, do not forget that apart from bills, your family dog is definitely serving to you during this troublesome time. Simply coping with, strolling and petting your canine or puppy can decrease arterial pressure and relieve stress, making your doggie your unique, in-home, four-legged physician. He is less expensive than any therapy (if you consider), isn’t it?

Can Your Dog’s Cost Be Lower?2

Hello Everyone,

We have arrived to the second instalment of reducing dog’s cost. In the previous part, we discussed saving tips on: a) choosing the right dog to fit our budget and b) money-saving options on dog food. Meantime, one of my readers mentioned the grooming expenses she spends monthly. And others are interested in saving on pet sitting costs. These are very good questions, and I say thanks to Ethel, Louis and Claire suggested them. Today we will look at those elements too, but now, I continue with the dog treats and snacks options.

And now I’m unusual because I don’t speak the treats available in pet shops. Why? It seemed for me long ago that the time arrived to begin shopping for dog treats from our grocery store rather pet food retailer. I viewed the storage unit price of top quality treats within our local pet supply.

I found that meat treats could cost more per pound than crayfish. Another item (salmon jerky) is costlier compared to the smoked salmon I purchased. Going further between containers some bear-shaped cookies were more expensive than the cheese imported from Italy.

And by visited forums I read about canines turned into unwell or dying from cheap treats, I purchased for my dogs solely the best.

Low-cost Secure Grocery Retailer Treats

This is my listing among the finest dog treats you’ll discover in your grocery store or supermarket. These won’t cost an arm and leg and simultaneously; your dog will consuming them happily and will remain healthy.

carrots-as-healthy-dog-treatsApple Cubes – I use to make cubes from them and my dogs eat them gladly.

Carrots – I slice and store them in the fridge in ice water. They like them because the pieces stay crispy that way.

Cheese – I use to give them in a little amount to avoid diarrhea.

Chicken – Cooking them in a crock pot until the meat separated from the bone is easy. The resulting stock can be useful in many recipes.

Liver – I use to slice it into thin pieces and dehydrate them. It’s advantageous to buy organic liver. Doing so, the antibiotics and chemicals conventional agriculture apply to don’t enter the food.

Liverwurst – It also called as dog crack somewhere. It’s a superb high-value treat, but I use it moderately.

Sweet Potatoes – I prepare from them dehydrated thin slices (in the oven). Of course, I wash their skin or peel them before. In a plastic container, I can easily keep them for 2 – 3 weeks unspoiled.

turkey-hot-dogs-as-dog-treatsTurkey Hot Dogs – In the event, you don’t like dealing with them raw, put slices inside a dehydrator. Alternatively, put in a baking sheet within the oven of 170 degrees until they puff up, and their moisture goes out. Then I put them in a plastic container into the freezer.

Yogurt (frozen) – I use to add two tablespoons of peanut butter to a cupful of yogurt. Then I stir and freeze the mixture until shaped the tartlet pan.

There’s no valid justification your family dog’s rewards should be a commercial dog treats solely. So, I also use to prepare homemade dog biscuits, the recipe is here. And it’s not bad, I confess I use to taste them after baking.

Saving Money on Dog Grooming

I’m convinced I don’t need to emphasize the importance of systematic dog grooming for dog lover people. I also discussed about that here recently. Now you can find some additions.

I use to do grooming procedures like brushing/combing, bathing, haircut and nail clipping on my own. Getting the necessary supplies designed for dogs isn’t problematic. And I need to purchase the tools once and use them for many years.

Of course, I haven’t started doing dog grooming the day before yesterday. I was lucky enough to observe people older than me – such as shepherds, hunters and dog breeders – as they did the grooming processes.

And Dr. Francis Header, our veterinarian decades ago was my other help in this area. For example, among others, he showed me the removal method of a dewclaw nearly fifty years ago. And also he advised me which tool is suitable for performing a different task.

One of my readers, Ethel said she doesn’t like to leave her doggies at the pro groomer daylong. And the carrying back and forth also is problematic to her, not to mention the $140 expense for two Spaniel doggies monthly.

I understand her and only can recommend you to follow my example and learn to make the necessary grooming home. Invest in a good set of sharp clipping tools that serve you long. Enter the “dog grooming courses on DVD” into your browser and the Internet will give you a tremendous result to learn. Follow the same process if you prefer books to videos or DVDs.

My secret tip1: I use surgical scissors rather dog grooming scissors, they are cheaper, but do the task just as well. Secret tip2: The diluted baby shampoo is excellent to bathe my dog, has the more subtle smell, and cheaper than dog shampoo. (This tip originated from a vet working for a pharmaceutical giant.)

Saving on Dog Sitter Expenses

working-dog-sitter Are you intended to go out of town for getting a weekend? Hiring a dog sitter doesn’t demolish your budget necessarily. Fortunately, there are various ways to identify an affordable sitter – for between $15 and $35 per day. You can begin with asking your vet for suggestions.

And additionally, you may deliberate to search at Pet Sitters International or as well as National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. It’s a good move to be certain your dog sitter is committed, insured and licensed by a pro organization.

There is another possibility, you just visit the petsitterswap.com website. Pet Sitter Swap is helpful to individuals with dogs, cats and various other domesticated animal. As they say dogs and other pets prefer them. Because of their swap service, the animals are free from staying in cattery or kennel.

P.S.: My friends, share your related tips and help other dog lovers just like you! Next time I’ll cover the veterinary cost reduction opportunities. Thank You!

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

How to Get Rid of Dog Smells

If your dog smells or has urinated in the house, leaving odors that isn’t funny, a problem instead. Probably, you’ve experienced already; a stinking dog can empty a room, right? To prevent this unwanted situation, you’ve to find a solution for it. Naturally, there are different ways to correct the problem.

Checking for Bad Dog Smells

Please, don’t get me wrong, but a certain quantity of scent is common. However, when your animals emanating strong, bad dog smells, you need to check them for the reason. I always examine my Labrador-German Shepherd mix completely after every walking.

Man-detects-bad-dog-smellsFor example, I look for practically any apparent stink sources like something she rolled in or poop caught within her fur. Her legs are not left out of the inspection, too. I’m making sure there’s nothing stuck among her pads or toes.

The frequent fur inspection is also useful in that respect that you can remove the fresh squalor more easily than you wait until it’s drying into the coat.

Has Your Dog Sickness?

Additionally, dog smells should always be addressed when you take your pooch to the veterinarian. Some sickness can cause this smelling issue, and he’ll tell you if the situation is so. Your wet also will say if the problem is just hygienic natured.

Anyway, this is a very common cause of developing dog odor. Many individuals don’t wash their canine properly, if at all, does it. Thus, it is possible that your veterinarian will advise you the bathing. Another option can be adhering to a special diet can take care of.

However, this is a suchlike dilemma you don’t decide upon. Consequently, your wet can accept your pet for a full investigation of dog smells. Your dog will be examined  thoroughly to make sure he doesn’t have been dental, skin or ear problems.

If one of them exists, your wet will tell you the reason and offers you a proper cure. Nevertheless, don’t panic right away, it may be that the thing is simpler. It’s possible; your dog is the type that possibly needs bathing more regularly than other breeds.

There are breeds that produce a lot of oil on their skin like water dogs or Shih Tzus. Therefore, they may need more baths to prevent odor that excess oil causes.

Solutions Against Dog Smells

Of course, there is a quick solution for cushy owners. There are plenty of products accessible on the markets which are planned to remove dog’s odor. Convenient dog owners can purchase some doggie cologne and squirting a small amount to help mask the bad odor.

This solution is especially handy to you when unexpected guests come. Furthermore, you need to be sure that the dog’s bedding and crate are clean and free from dog smells too. Laundering the bedding properly can get rid of most smells. Moreover, cleanness helps to keep away parasites, too.

Your vet or groomer does properly cleaning your dog’s anal glands. Without frequently cleaning, the smell can be originated from there. Don’t try cleaning your dog’s anal sacs yourself unless you’ve been properly instructed as it may result in an infection.

What About Nutrition?

There is certain dog food brand that causes a dog develop bad odors, too. Changing the commercial nutrition to a homemade diet – which’s  more natural and less processed – foods can go a way in preventing bad dog smells.

It’s advantageous to monitor what your dog may be eating that it shouldn’t such as grapes, nuts, raisins and avocados.

If your dog isn’t properly potty trained or gets sick on your carpet, you need to have it professionally cleaned periodically until the problem is under control. There are many products on the market that you can purchase and clean the affected area(s).

Nevertheless, it’s difficult sometimes to tell which area is affected. For example, interesting situation occurs when your pooch isn’t trained yet and leaves hidden messes everywhere. Crating him can be a solution when you leave him alone, or you sleep.

You can make a cushion available and train your dog on if it stays mainly indoors. Furthermore, investing in a steam-carpet cleaning device might also help keep the dog smells at bay.

Conclusion

Of course, dogs will be dogs always. If your dog smells from rolling in smelly stuff, exist certain methods of getting rid of the unwanted odors. The problem is often solved if your dog gets a thorough bathing. In other cases, you can ask your veterinarian for recommendations.

P.S.: Have you ever experienced your guests did grimace because of your dog smells? Was the reason of the odor health concerned or totally weekday’s reason? How did you solve the situation? Tell your story in the comments. Thank You!

Cheap Ideas To Remove Dog Urine Stains

I’ve a good feeling to see when my dog is clean and smells good. Maybe you are also thinking that way, right? For most of us though, that’s not a practical possibility. Dog urine stains could occur on their hair at any time, whether your pet is a pup or grownup animal. Therefore, you need to pay attention on your doggie’s coat always.

Treating Urine Stains on Your Dog

dog-rolling-on-urine-stainsHe might be unintentionally dirty himself when walks into a urine puddle, his feet will be soaked by that. And, it often happens that you just finished your dog’s bathing. And he runs outside and decides to roll around in a smelly pile of trash in the yard.

I know that dogs aren’t always very neat when they are peeing or potty. What if you have a male who urinated over himself? You can talk about a bad target; nonetheless, your dog smells unpleasantly! But, here’s one recipe my sister-in-law uses to get rid of dog urine stains.

Take 1 part Woolite (laundry detergent) and 1 part peroxide (20 volume – the kind using for human hair). Dilute this mixture with two parts water. Add a little dog conditioning shampoo designed to coat type of your favorite. (To paying attention to color is important.)

Shampoo the mixture into the stained parts of your dog’s coat and allow it to remain on your dog for 3-5 minutes. Rinse out and then shampoo and condition as usual. This recipe should remove any urine stains on your canine.

Removing Dog Urine Stains In Your Home

You may also face the problem of having urine stains in your home from time to time. After all, not every dog is easy to house train. Furthermore, some dogs might forget their house training on a freezing cold night or when there’s a hard rain. If you need to remove urine stains from your carpet try one of these recipes:

A solution of 3 percent peroxide and a little water on a sponge can remove fresh urine and stop the stain from forming.

Some people swear about Windex to be spraying on their carpet. You can spray the window cleaner on the stain completely and then blot with a paper towel. You may need several towels to soak up all the moisture. If you think that your carpet color may change, then test the Windex on a small, inconspicuous area first before spraying it on a large section of carpet.

Let the Shop Vac Work for You

You also can use your shop vac to get rid of urine stains. Mix a tablespoon of Tide detergent in hot water and pour it on the urine stain. Then turn your shop vac on and let it start sucking up the stain and liquid. Vacuum all of the moisture out of the carpet.  If you do this well then your shop vac will perform the same way as a rented steam cleaner works.

Vinegar Tricks

Many people use a solution of white vinegar and water on urine stains. Work the mixture into the urine stain and then blot up all the moisture.  Vinegar is good at removing odors and it can work on the stain as well.

For a variation on the vinegar theme, you can use a quart of water with a small amount of dishwashing liquid and two tablespoons of white vinegar on urine stains.

Apply Toothpaste

A paste of toothpaste and warm water can work to lighten and remove stains. Sure, go ahead and use an old toothbrush while you work the mixture into the stain. You don’t have to use much.

There are a number of products you can buy to remove urine stains and odors such as Nature’s Miracle, Simple Solution Carpet Shampoo and Dreft, the laundry detergent designed for baby diapers. These products are all excellent though they may cost more than the homemade solutions. However, they can be worth their price.

My Recommendations

Make certain that you clean and disinfect the dirty space rigorously. That’s very important in that respect that some remaining scent will certainly compel your favorite to return to that special spot when his urge presents itself next time.

WARNING! Please, do not make the cleaning and disinfecting process in his presence. The point is that he is not allowed to see as you do the cleaning. Otherwise, he will interpret your swab moves as a game of your choice, and he wants to act nice to you next time, too.

P.S.: What’s going on with your dog? Do these accidents happen with him? What tips do you have for removing dog urine stains? Share your story in the comments. Thank You!

Obese Dog – The Rising Problem

An obese dog trudges slowly with a well-nourished owner. Oh, how many times I see this picture while walking with our Zizi. Particularly, the dogs living in multistory building with their elderly or very busy owners are in danger. Their canines’ physique forms a barrel, and hasn’t the slightest interest in chasing a cat or mailman. However, they are able to sit with a reverent face in front of the fridge waiting freebie bites for hours.

Some Real or Perceived Reasons of Obesity

If your canine has been overweight, you most likely will be very apprehensive. The dismal reality is that nearly 1 / 4 of our pets are literally obese.  It’s vital to know why the situation is forming this way. Some say it’s a correlation with the electronic era and the shortage of time we are able to bestir to our animals.

The people are inclined to take plenty of shortcuts nowadays. You come across computers, dishwashers, microwaves, remote controls, smart TVs and all supposed to facilitate the life. All these items that should make our lives simpler and allow more chance for such things like strolling our dog often do not, in the reality. Sadly, there isn’t much time, someone can say.

But, I don’t see this question that way. It’s just an excuse. Everyone has to have time to whatever that he wants. If I want to walk, train to exercise with my dogs together I nearly always find time for that, just like I want to go out with a lady. So I closed this section and want to pay attention to the solution.

Handling the Developed Situation

Obese-dogIt certainly may be amusing to see the house guarding and cat chasing attempts of a fat dog. The obesity is not only an aesthetic problem, but can lead to serious health problems, as well as in humans. In this case, there is no other solution than a carefully designed, rigorous slimming diet.

The same rules are related to the slimming cure of a fat dog as the humans: the gradualism and moderation are primary. But, a method suitable for every situation and species isn’t existed. The personalized therapy may bring the best results, in which your veterinarian, knowing the circumstances, can help a lot.

At the beginning of a slimming diet, we need to decide first what kind of dog nutrition we give: home-cooked meal or a commercial dog food. The disadvantage of mixing the two methods is that you cannot count on the impact of ingredients if it is homemade fare.

It’s not a coincidence that hundreds of nutrition professionals are working with good companies. They carefully calculate the reason why just 23% protein necessary in a certain commercial dog food instead 24%.

If you supplement the carefully crafted food with a small home-fare, it’s easy to screw up everything. This particularly goes so in the case of dietary forages whose effect only then can prevail, if we feed the animals for a long time with that merely!

Treats Are Taboo!

Thus, during the slimming diet – over the given daily food quantity (carefully portioned dry kibbles or other nutrition) – you shouldn’t provide him anything else (any dog snacks, treats)! If you follow this principle, then you may gradually decrease the usual amount. I mean you lessen the given amount with few pieces daily and the animal will not even notice that he’s on a diet.

Golden Rule: Without Movement, the Fat-reducing Diet Is Meaningless!

You can gradually get used your favorite – that grow lazy – to regular exercise. You should be glad to even a small result. For example, it’s good at first if you leave a few feet away the food bowl from the sleeping place. And your dog reaches his meal with a huge effort while beating the “big” range.

You can raise the range next day. If your dog passes the obstacles successfully, you may want to reward him. But, of course, with just a friendly pat, as all sort of snack is strictly prohibited! The following day, you may bring him out to the street. And then a few days later he will be able to venture outwards on his own.

This way, your dog gets used in the movement almost imperceptible. If everything went right, then you can enrich the daily routine (becomes easy to walk anyway) with varied tasks and playing. A new toy can make a miracle in this respect.

Measure the Progress

You can extend the length of a walk (duration) consistently with 4-5 minutes. The process will be more reliable and controllable if you write a log about feeding (daily amount) and walking (daytime).

WARNING! You should not want immediate results! You need to measure the animal’s weight weekly (at the same time, before feeding, watering). If you are even slightly but steadily reduced the weight of your dog then you can be satisfied by the results.

My Addition

In case of large overweight you should make use veterinarian help, and get special dog food developed for dieting. Namely, those still have a higher fiber content, which causes satiety and contains the indispensable vitamins and minerals for your dog.

Experience has shown that dogs like to consume these foods. It doesn’t hurt to know that dieter foods are slightly more expensive than the normal nutritions, but for the dog’s health is definitely worth it. The normal and dieting nutritions can be combined, depending on what kind of “urgency” is your goal in weight loss.

So, with some care and exercise you can obtain a good effect on the shape and health of your dog, not to mention the common joys long walks caused.

Have you tasted homemade dog biscuits?

Bow-Wow My Dog Friends, This week, we hadn’t a lot of sunshine, but it’s not particularly interested in me. It was much more exciting for me that I ate delicious homemade dog biscuits I got from my owner.

You know, my master use to cook different meals for fun sometimes. And I’ll be excited in advance when I notice the preparations in the kitchen. Namely, I know the result will be something delicious always.

My master got some paper from one of his friends and there was a recipe of homemade dog biscuits on that. He told me he would try it and make pumpkin biscuits for me.

I’m Lovin’ the Homemade Foods

homemade-dog-biscuitsOh, my dog fellows, I’m not choosy when it comes eating, I’m gobbling happily I get. Ha-ha, it’s funny, a friend of my pack-leader told him that their basset hounds happily gnawing on turnips since they see their donkey how much loves it.

I like carrots and haven’t quarreled with any in-store treats. My master patiently explained me the labels of ready-made biscuits are difficult to decode in order the contained ingredients listed on them. Although at least what he use to buy contains no artificial colorings and preservatives.

That is the reason he uses to make homemade food for me sometimes. Because this way he can see what materials are included, so it will be healthy for me – his loving dog – surely. And it is fitted to my taste, too.

My master explained me why he did these homemade dog biscuits: preparation of the pumpkin and cinnamon biscuit is not only very easy to make. But, it also is very healthy, fulfilled with fiber, so it helps my digestion. Additionally, it has a lot of vitamin A, potassium, beta-carotene and iron.

Recipe of the Homemade Dog Biscuits

Ingredients: • 1.32 lb pumpkin • 80 ounces of flour (whole wheat or plain) • 2 tablespoons olive oil or other vegetable oil • half a teaspoon of baking soda (or baking powder) • 4 tablespoons of water • 4 tablespoons of honey • half a teaspoon of cinnamon (optional) Preparation:

My master cuts the pumpkin, scrapes the core and chops it, next he covers that with aluminum foil and places the pre-heated oven 355 °F degrees. When it’s almost tender, then he fries it a bit over the top.

Once it cooled, he spoons out the pumpkin from its shell, and mixes the honey, oil and water to that. Then he adds the floor, baking powder and spices and kneads these to get a well formatted extensible dough.

Then he extracts little uniform pieces from the dough with a spoon, kneads balls and flattens them in flat of his hand. He bakes them dry at 355 °F degree oven around 25-30 minutes. The result was 60 piece morsel from this dose.

Oh my dog fellows, these homemade dog biscuits were very delicious for me. I’m awaiting impatiently when I’ll get from them again. Oh … you know …  it’s not an easy thing to being a dog.

Bow-Wow until next time, Zizi

Stop Feeding These Toxic Foods For Dogs 2

Previous part

Milk Products

Icecream-belongs-to-the-toxic-foods-for-dogs

I hear you and know, it is  tempting to give the rest of your ice cream or yogurt to your four-legged mate panting beside you, but isn’t a good idea. The milk and milk products have an effect in your dog’s intestine that may induce several days of diarrhea, with dehydration and vitamin deficiency.

Think about it; lots of 3-6-month old puppies are lactose-sensitive. This means that milk consumption will generate gas, and diarrhea to them. The acidic milk product such as yogurt is not as toxic for your dog because contains less lactose. The cheeses in a small amount are excellent for a dog’s diet because lactose isn’t in them. But, you should avoid giving the green moldy cheese because it can cause death in your dogs!

Onions

I use to cook for fun sometimes, and enjoy the onions in many meals. But, these plants have a relatively high N-propyl disulfide content, that’s the reason they are on the list of toxic foods for dogs. In addition, onions also contain sulfoxide, which together cause severe damage to the red blood cells of dogs, can lead to anemia, and can cause gastrointestinal irritation as well.

Anyway, the signs of anemia are weakness, vomiting, loss of appetite and shortness of breath. These effects occur even when dogs eaten either the raw or cooked onion or onion-powder. Occasionally, a small amount is fine, but a single large dose or consuming a little amount regularly might cause damage.

WARNING: Some people believe the baby food is ideal dog feed. This is a mistake, because most versions of baby food contain onion in powder form.

Peach

I use to give my dog peaches only when I fully remove the seeds from it! Why? If the apricot seed is added to the dog’s digestive system, it may trigger inflammation and permanent health damage. Not to mention that it contains cyanide, which is extremely toxic to either humans or dogs.

Raw Egg

I’m opposed the general belief that the raw egg yolk imparts shiny coat to your doggie. The truth is that the probability of salmonella and E. coli infection is greater.  In addition, one of the enzymes contained within inhibit the absorption of vitamin B, which can lead directly to skin and hair problems.

Raw Fish

The next one in the row of toxic foods for dogs is the raw fish, namely it can result in deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B). That situation can lead to anorexia (loss of appetite), then seizures, and death sometimes. If you fed raw fish to your dog frequently the problem can be more serious.

Raw Meat

It would be the best dog food if you could rule out the bacteria infection like E. coli and Salmonella. If your attempt to do so fails, you can count on vomiting and diarrhea, which can lead to more serious ailment without veterinary intervention.

Rhubarb

I used to eat rhubarb leaves as pottage without a problem. But, the calcium-oxalate dissolved in rhubarb leaves makes it highly toxic for dogs. This chemical has a harmful effect in the functioning of the nervous and digestive systems as well as the urinary tract of your dogs. The consumption of rhubarb can cause tremor, nervousness, and kidney problems. If the symptoms are not treated in time, your dog could die.

Sugary foods

They are toxic foods for dogs because sugary products can result in weight problems, dental issues, and presumably diabetes mellitus.

Tobacco

I don’t smoke, and my dogs follow me in this. The tobacco comprises nicotine, which impacts the nervous and digestive systems in your pooches. It can lead to speedy coronary heart beatunconsciousness, bust-up, and decease.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t be surprised if – after the above – you would ask, what aren’t toxic foods for dogs? The commercially available pet food, treats fortified with vitamins and minerals is the most expedient. And between these, you’ll certainly find the appropriate variations fits your budget and the requirements of the health of your pet.  In addition, many homemade dog food recipes are available for you on the net, you just need to look around!
