What Can Be Dogs’ New Year’s Resolution?

Dog Lovers, Happy New Year!

The year of 2013 left us, and the usher 2014 stepped out from behind the curtain. And this is the perfect time for most individuals look back to the 12 months has gone. People also have become a habit of creating a New Year’s resolution. When we make such resolutions, we want to prove to ourselves something.

For example, we lay the cigarettes because they are unhealthy, and we will be successful in that. Or, possibly, we start dieting to fit into the old clothing again, sitting in the closet’s deep. It could happen that we want to spend more time in a sport, because we feel a lot of sitting work or drudgery increasingly destroying our bodies.

But, I played with an idea of what it would be if our dogs also make their New Year’s resolution. Please, visualize as your furry friends are reflecting on the alternatives they’ve made last year. Would they change something in 2014 or possibly not?

Dogs’ New Year’s Resolution

I’ve imagined what would be their resolution of our present dogs and who left us in the last decades. Well, let’s start with the youngest.

new-year's-resolution-asking-lisa

* Zizi is our eight-year-old rescued Labrador/German Shepherd mix, and her resolution could be something like this: “I resolve not to bark all times when thunder and lightning are happened. I know I need to be neglecting towards them, but somehow I felt indicated to bark. My loving owner and mentor tried to cease this habit. He did a consulting with his vet and achieved some results. This family loves me very much and I would like to honor their effort with some more progress.”

* Roll was the senior fellow when Zizi came to us. She also was a rescued canine. Unfortunately, she left us and vent to over the rainbow bridge.  Her mortal remains are buried in our garden. If she were alive, maybe this would be her New Year’s resolution: “I resolve not to bark on the mailman in the future. I totally understand that he has a job and has to provide his family. And if I think about this issue seriously I realize I sometimes may be reacted a too harsh way by leaping over the fence and barking loudly. I certainly did not seem a civilized dog, and that will change surely.”

* Nero also was a rescued mongrel, and his ancestors were totally unknown and Roll was brought here after his death in his twelve years. He finally rests in eternal peace in our garden. If he were alive, his resolution would be something like this: “I resolve not to dig holes under the bushes anymore. I know how upset was the wife of my master to discover the holes repeatedly. I heard many times individuals proclaiming that nobody would undertake such a trenching machine like I am, but I resolve to verify they are wrong.”

These came to my mind while I watched how Lisa and Zizi are playing joyfully in our yard. As far as my New Year’s resolution concerned I promise to be their loving and responsible owner and teacher.

My dog lover Friends, what would be your dog’s resolution to 2014?

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

Thanks to Talk Our Dogs Readers & Subscribers!

Hi everyone!

I’m writing this post on Friday – the day before the weekend. The weather is spoiling us with brilliant sunshine. We deserved that because we saw the rain clouds only during four days. I decided this article will be other than most of the previous. The reason is twofold. Firstly, I’d like to say to thank you for my subscribers publicly for their support. Secondly, I intend to give you here some additions to my “about me” page.

Saying Thank You

To start from the beginning, it wasn’t easy for me to unbosoming myself to the world. I’m not so extroverted like a celebrity who shares even their bedroom affairs with the universe. And I do not declare myself an expert. I just love the animals and that feeling started sixty-five years ago – at least, so I recall.

And believe me, I’ve seen a thing or two during this period. I like to write about dog topics occur in dog owners’ everyday life. Due to that concept, you may find fewer chit-chats in my articles, although I’m not an opponent of building relationships.

Far from it! Nevertheless, only so much time is in a day for me besides other commitments I’ve. However, as I experienced, you, my readers and subscribers appreciate the meat in an article. I tried to write about dog-related topics I had the pleasure to get to know so far. But I try to keep up with the latest trends as well.

I also got several feedbacks on this in emails and comments, and now I’m saying a Big Thank You for your kind support!

About Choosing Topics

As for the choice of subjects, before I started this site, I was thinking about pre-programmed, themed topics. Not much time elapsed, and I found it is better for the readers – and myself, too – if I’m dealing with the problems arising daily. Due to that, I have no shortage of subjects. And that’s the reason if one or other category contains more or less articles.

For instance, you meet different dog persons during walking with your canine. You can do discussions when you’re purchasing dog food, toys, equipments, etc. for your favorite in stores and markets. I often got topic ideas when meet other canine owners in a club.

Moreover, I’ve to mention the dog races and shows I visited occasionally. Furthermore, my habit is to discuss with vets and staff of a shelter I worked as a volunteer before. One of my engagements is reading pet-related news on the net.

Of course, my dog owner or prospective canine keeper readers also suggest topics which they are interested in. I ask you, my readers and subscribers, keep this good habit in the future, too. Please, do not hesitate to ask, I’ll try to do my best to answer your questions.

About My Love for Dogs

As you may know from the above, my parents familiarized me with animals as a little kid. There were different domestic animals in our household, among dogs as well. Furthermore, my grand dad dealt with flocks at that times, so I met shepherd dogs, too.

In the household, I spent my childhood, there was a Hungarian Kuvasz called Swan. She was a very good sidekick, and allowed me a lot. I loved to be with her, and my parents educated me being responsible to Swan. I took part in her feeding, watering, cleaning and exercising.

Due to the bonding developed between the two of us, I was mentally down when she passed away. I became bedridden. Medicaments were ineffective. One of the sheepdogs of my granddad was the right medication for me. I often think back to that fur balls with love; he was Curier, a Puli. 🙂

How It Continued?

In my further life, I met many kind of dog breeds. Some of them lived in my kennel, others I met in the shelter mentioned above. I’d be in a big trouble if I should have to count their numbers. Apart from that, there are quite a few breed stood close to me.

Just name a few besides above mentioned:

Lobo – Bernese Mountain Dog

Doris – Boxer

Bear – Komondor

Courier – Puli

Roll – German Shepherd (rescued)

Manu – Siberian Huski (rescued)

Ficus – Mudi mix (rescued)

Nero – Mixed breed (rescued)

Tik-tak – Wirehaired Foxterrier (rescued)

Zizi – Labrador / German Shepherd mix (rescued)

Anyway, they are those canines I wrote about in my book, too. Of course, dealing with different dogs wasn’t cloud-free always. The solution of problems from time to time helped my progress in dog keeping as well. So, what I know about dogs nowadays, I collected from living with them.

And now there are few pictures from the city I live: (pictures open in new window)

P.S.: I hope I could give you some addition to know who I am. But, if you’ve any question, topic proposal, constructive critics, etc. please put hesitation aside and speak your mind in the comments. I’ll do my best to satisfy your needs. Thank You!

It’s Puppy Now But Grownup Tomorrow

It belongs to my favorite pastimes to look at the dogs I meet during our walks. It doesn’t matter if the canine in question is a puppy or an adult animal. I’m going to go to find out its breed, age, health condition, and so on. The dog’s appearance, movement, body language says a lot about what kind of life it has. And if I meet a dog again but with significant time difference, I perceive how quickly time passes. It was a puppy at our first meeting and became a grownup dog by now.

The Beginning

I discover how a puppy looks like when I lift up it from among its siblings. Any puppy can be captivating for you with its brown chocolate-colored  eyes. As he presses his moist, warm nose to you, or licks friendly your skin, you’re already conquered.

And, meantime it comes across your mind how fast he transforms from a kid state to the adult. Of course, you have some mitigate feeling when a little doggie desires to snuggle into your arms. And you can identify, how nice is to touch his soft fur.

Puppy-now-but-grownup-soonAfter all, he asks for the love and returns it. And you have no heart to refuse him. You may think: it would be nice if he remained in his puppy stage forever, right? But, in about 12 months, that small canine easily could have a weight as your teenage kid. And there is a possibility that he is eating more than your son does, as well!

When you happen to carry home your puppy at a really young age, you’ve got a chance to educate him to live inside your environment. You actually get to partake of those joyful periods when your puppy starts to discover playing with his own tail or mastering ball catching.

Those months really can get stuck within your memory. And you may think the traditional saying that says it’s impossible to teach new tricks to an old dog. Then you certainly want to start off with your puppy and teach him how you wish him to be grownup.

Puppy Is Going Towards Adulthood

You can observe as your dog is aging he takes even more characteristics attributed to his breed. Even the cruel guard dogs were previously cuddlesome puppies with appearances that might mollify hearts. Once becomes an adult, that very same canine can immediately be ready to attack a stranger to guard his territory – and his host of course.

Looking at the show dogs you can realize they are dearer. However, they should get a strong and repeating workout. If you’d like to achieve a show dog to make things on a command, you might confuse him with ad hoc infantile behaviors. Dogs who’ve roles to act a certain manner takes those tasks earnestly.

To hold a puppy feeling for lifelong, you can select a tiny lap dog. Several dog breeds are quite happy if you always hold and cocker them. They can be the perfect match to an idle owner. Because they have patience for sitting and watching TV endlessly.

Virtually, as adult dogs, they own more patience with inactivity than they’ve in their puppy ages. The character of living as a pup is just like that of being a little child. It is a time period of discovering, doing faults and running always.

The pups are so incredibly enthusiastic about all new things. It doesn’t matter if a butterfly fluttering over the yard, or even it’s a toy. These affect them so that they forget rapidly what command you gave them a second ago. The desire of discovering drives them to wander around, even away from the protective frontiers of your property.

The life by rising up your puppy might be interspersed with wonderful and exhausting experiences equally. Your puppy desperately requires your love and endorsement. Consequently, it’s important to be correct with him and avoid being coarse. You need to avoid comparing one puppy to another. Even if they are the member of the very identical breed.

Conclusion

Before your little fur-ball grows into a finished-size dog, it is important for you to engage on obedience training. This manner, the great habits he learns will stick with him throughout his growth process. (These trainings can be repeated later if needed.)

All puppies have their own particular personality as well as talents. Due to those, each of them will progress by getting training at his pace. And that cannot be compared with the velocity of his siblings or the pup you possessed beforehand.

Canines, like people, could be lovely babies and aggravating grownups – or vice versa. So be ready to adore your doggie you’ve for its lifelong.

P.S.: Have you ever experienced as your puppy become an adult dog? Did you discover some similarities to child rearing? How do you look back to that period? Speak your mind in the comments below, maybe some of us can learn from you. Thank you!

Obese Dog – The Rising Problem

An obese dog trudges slowly with a well-nourished owner. Oh, how many times I see this picture while walking with our Zizi. Particularly, the dogs living in multistory building with their elderly or very busy owners are in danger. Their canines’ physique forms a barrel, and hasn’t the slightest interest in chasing a cat or mailman. However, they are able to sit with a reverent face in front of the fridge waiting freebie bites for hours.

Some Real or Perceived Reasons of Obesity

If your canine has been overweight, you most likely will be very apprehensive. The dismal reality is that nearly 1 / 4 of our pets are literally obese.  It’s vital to know why the situation is forming this way. Some say it’s a correlation with the electronic era and the shortage of time we are able to bestir to our animals.

The people are inclined to take plenty of shortcuts nowadays. You come across computers, dishwashers, microwaves, remote controls, smart TVs and all supposed to facilitate the life. All these items that should make our lives simpler and allow more chance for such things like strolling our dog often do not, in the reality. Sadly, there isn’t much time, someone can say.

But, I don’t see this question that way. It’s just an excuse. Everyone has to have time to whatever that he wants. If I want to walk, train to exercise with my dogs together I nearly always find time for that, just like I want to go out with a lady. So I closed this section and want to pay attention to the solution.

Handling the Developed Situation

Obese-dogIt certainly may be amusing to see the house guarding and cat chasing attempts of a fat dog. The obesity is not only an aesthetic problem, but can lead to serious health problems, as well as in humans. In this case, there is no other solution than a carefully designed, rigorous slimming diet.

The same rules are related to the slimming cure of a fat dog as the humans: the gradualism and moderation are primary. But, a method suitable for every situation and species isn’t existed. The personalized therapy may bring the best results, in which your veterinarian, knowing the circumstances, can help a lot.

At the beginning of a slimming diet, we need to decide first what kind of dog nutrition we give: home-cooked meal or a commercial dog food. The disadvantage of mixing the two methods is that you cannot count on the impact of ingredients if it is homemade fare.

It’s not a coincidence that hundreds of nutrition professionals are working with good companies. They carefully calculate the reason why just 23% protein necessary in a certain commercial dog food instead 24%.

If you supplement the carefully crafted food with a small home-fare, it’s easy to screw up everything. This particularly goes so in the case of dietary forages whose effect only then can prevail, if we feed the animals for a long time with that merely!

Treats Are Taboo!

Thus, during the slimming diet – over the given daily food quantity (carefully portioned dry kibbles or other nutrition) – you shouldn’t provide him anything else (any dog snacks, treats)! If you follow this principle, then you may gradually decrease the usual amount. I mean you lessen the given amount with few pieces daily and the animal will not even notice that he’s on a diet.

Golden Rule: Without Movement, the Fat-reducing Diet Is Meaningless!

You can gradually get used your favorite – that grow lazy – to regular exercise. You should be glad to even a small result. For example, it’s good at first if you leave a few feet away the food bowl from the sleeping place. And your dog reaches his meal with a huge effort while beating the “big” range.

You can raise the range next day. If your dog passes the obstacles successfully, you may want to reward him. But, of course, with just a friendly pat, as all sort of snack is strictly prohibited! The following day, you may bring him out to the street. And then a few days later he will be able to venture outwards on his own.

This way, your dog gets used in the movement almost imperceptible. If everything went right, then you can enrich the daily routine (becomes easy to walk anyway) with varied tasks and playing. A new toy can make a miracle in this respect.

Measure the Progress

You can extend the length of a walk (duration) consistently with 4-5 minutes. The process will be more reliable and controllable if you write a log about feeding (daily amount) and walking (daytime).

WARNING! You should not want immediate results! You need to measure the animal’s weight weekly (at the same time, before feeding, watering). If you are even slightly but steadily reduced the weight of your dog then you can be satisfied by the results.

My Addition

In case of large overweight you should make use veterinarian help, and get special dog food developed for dieting. Namely, those still have a higher fiber content, which causes satiety and contains the indispensable vitamins and minerals for your dog.

Experience has shown that dogs like to consume these foods. It doesn’t hurt to know that dieter foods are slightly more expensive than the normal nutritions, but for the dog’s health is definitely worth it. The normal and dieting nutritions can be combined, depending on what kind of “urgency” is your goal in weight loss.

So, with some care and exercise you can obtain a good effect on the shape and health of your dog, not to mention the common joys long walks caused.

P.S.: What are your thoughts about on dog obesity? Are you satisfied with the weight of your favorite? How did you make it? We are interested in your opinion, so please, share it with us. Thank you!
