Can Dogs Get Colds in Winter Really?

Hi Everyone,

Dogs-related news always attracted my attention. So, I just stumbled upon a news covered pets can get cold appeared on the CBS Las Vegas website. The KXNT Morning News is hosted by Joe Gillespie. He had a guest vet Debbie White, who said noteworthy advices on the subject. Dr. White explained that dogs get colds in chilled weather without your noticing.

She recommended dog owners dress up their dogs with sweaters, particularly if those are short-haired. Furthermore, Dr. White said in the conversation that you should provide your dog a sufficient amount of food and water. But, that’s not enough; you must also pay attention to prevent the drinking water from freezing.

The Cold in Practice

dogs-get-colds-in-winter-easilyI’ve to say I totally agree with Dr. White, based on my experiences. Cold in canines may have occurred and could be attributable to the varied viruses and germs. In this regard, dogs show signs similar to us, humans. Of course, much depends on recognizing the symptoms in its earlier phase.

Our dogs get colds by being around nearness with another, already infected canine, too. Together with this, low immunity levels, stress, and unfriendly climatic conditions could be further contributing factors.

Even so, the majority of dog owners normally have issues distinguish a standard cold from a severe disease. Here is a listing by way of help to make things somewhat simple for you. The list covers a collection of symptom signs that your canine possesses a cold.

Common Cold Symptoms in Dogs

– Runny eyes
– White nose and discharge-flow
– Grumpiness
– Sluggishness
– Coughing
– Sneezing
– Hypothermia

Puppy and Low Temperature

The list of symptoms can be observed in puppies and adult dogs equally. In addition, the new-born dogs don’t even require serious cold to be cool down. They have inherently higher heat demand and their coat is weak. Moreover, they lack the protecting fatty layer under their skin.

The few movements of the newborns and the slower metabolism are also added to the mentioned facts. The process from this point is straightforward: a newborn puppy gives low moaning sound. Then it moves even less, and eventually finishes its life.

After two months of their age, the puppies almost become restless, also they consume more food. Therefore, more and more fat is released within their bodies. Consequently, they are threatened by risk of hypothermia on less and less level.

If You Faced Trouble

In dogs, you have to take the common cold seriously. Namely, if it remains untreated, might have serious consequences. Your dog may exhibit symptoms of the common cold like sneezing, coughing, fever. In those situations mostly health problems – which are weakening the immune system – are behind.

In these cases, the care of the dog’s host is often questionable. Indeed, a puppy who has strong immune system will not get the same disease than his underfed, low-strength mate. By the way, helminthiasis, or other microorganisms also can produce symptoms of the common cold.

Due to the limited energy and liquid reserves, the condition of your dog may be deteriorated rapidly. You, therefore, need to take him to a vet as soon as possible. The speed of the treatment started in time can save lives. Long time dog owners are understandable dread dangerous viruses like distemper and kennel cough.

Elderly Dogs Get Colds

The older dogs get colds easily, terefore, they need protection in winter season. Most of the small, rare-haired old dogs will cool off very easily, especially if they are slim. Unfortunately, the insidious hypothermia goes unnoticed so frequently. Only the increased muscle tone, rigidity will be conspicuous for an inexperienced owner.

If the dog’s body temperature is reduced significantly, malfunction of the internal organs quickly takes place. The most frequent trouble is the renal ceases its service. The liver and the heart muscle is very sensitive to the cold effect. And the rheumatic diseases tend to be worse due to the cold.

As I experienced, you cannot eliminate the damages with rapid warming of the cold animal. The acute inflammation of the kidneys often becomes chronic, and this can be fatal. Therefore, there is no shame in wearing a coat by a weaker or older dog in winter.

Walking on Winter Roads

If possible, avoid walking your dog on the salt-strewn roads. If this is not a manageable option, then smear thick Vaseline or paw protector wax to your dog’s paws before walking outside. This will prevent cracking of the pad’s skin and keep feet away from the salt.

The salt causes burning feeling on the cracked pads, and this can lead to poorly healing wounds. Furthermore, the tiny snow balls and ice pieces sticking into toes also can be a resonwhy dogs get colds in winter. These can be very uncomfortable and painful. So it’s advisable to cut off the hair between the toes in time.

Until next time…

Caring Dog Ownership Costs Money, Too

When it comes to dog ownership, you might find yourself in a situation like a boat owner. I’m saying this because that position comes with a never-ending money spending. One example: already the purchase of the dog itself is concerned on quite a wide range of costs. Namely, it may have a price varying from a $30 pet adoption charge to three thousands dollars and over for purebred and trendy canines. And you ought to pay that amount before you get your pet.

Feeding Costs

First, you have to have the right type of dog food. Food choices are age-graded so that what you feed a puppy differs from what you give an adult dog. There are even foods for both puppies and older dogs with extra nutrients to match their unique needs.

Caring Dog Ownership Provides Quality Food

It turns out from a Consumer Reports survey that dog owner individuals spend typically around $36 per month for canine food. CR also says that a major portion of the nationwide pet-meals spending nowadays pertains to the so-known premium and super-premium dog food versions.

However, your conscientious veterinarian will most likely inform you that the common dog doesn’t want expensive food. For wholesome grownup canines, a medium-priced dry kibble can provide good diet so long as it carries certain labels. You need to first search for “complete and balanced” on the label.

That signifies the food items offers sufficient amount of nutrients to be your family dog’s solely way to obtain meals as outlined through AAFCO. Then search for a declaration situated on the bag which claims the food meets the standards of the Association of American Feed Control Officials.

Is Your Dog Inside or Outdoor?

A canine living outdoor requires a spot to rest and sleep that’s saved off of the weather. Merely putting your dog into a fenced kennel isn’t suitable. Of course, that solution would be somewhat better than a prison.

But, a caring dog ownership is not about that. On a serious note, your outdoor canine wants a strong doghouse with insulated sides, floor and roof – to bearing extreme climates. These insulated dog houses can be available from $250 – $300 for small doggies.

The upper limit can reach or exceed the one thousand dollars for bigger canines. Providing an air con or possible heating unit to the doghouse outdoor for the price of the unit plus installation can be another solution.

For dogs living inside you may also acquire an interior doghouse. That can supply a feeling of privacy to your small or medium canines. A captivating indoor doghouse made from rattan is generally available in smaller sizes for not much than $200.

Required Supplies

Obviously, your dog also requires the proper bowls for drink and eating. The bowls for young puppies are nearer to the ground and made durable to avoid a fall over. These are not particularly large items in your budget. For example; a stainless steel bowl is available for fewer than five dollars now.

After that you’ll need a sleeping area for your puppy. Depending on your conception and purses that may start from a discarded winter coat. The other extreme may be to use a completely decked mattress within a box that is more expensive than your own bed.

Anything between the two is imaginable. The point is which one will be suitable to your canine. I have seen cases where the dog preferred the cheaper solution.

Equipments like a collar or leash is a one-time investment (except loss or ruined by chew). I’ve discovered a set contained the collar and leash under $20 online. Of course, I’m talking about that fulfills the modest needs. Extra demand requires more money, as always.

Dog Clothing

I have written about that previously here and here. Apart from that, in chilly and moist climates, dog raincoats and sweaters are reasonable items. The small canines really want some additional warmth provided by a sweater.

The tendency to dress dogs start from swimsuits to celebration costumes for Halloween or high fashion shortly runs the tab for a brand-new wardrobe that you simply love, however, don’t count on each animal to prefer that idea.

Dog Toys

I do realize that the toy part is just a bit small compared to what you may discover in department stores for your toddlers. Dog toys can start from cheap bones and chew objects. The line is continuing to toy squirrels, frogs or cats anyway.

That may set up the sense of your canine the mastery over other animals. Anyway, earlier I dealt with choosing chew toys for our dogs here.

Dog Ownership Also Means Vet Costs

I mention this item nearly at the end of this list because it could be the greatest among all costs. To my mind, the health of the dog is something that we shouldn’t be stingy with. The veterinary costs may also depend besides inherited predispositions that how healthy our dog is, how we take care of his health.

caring-dog-ownership-contains-vet-care

Caring Dog Ownership Contains Vet Care

Moreover, included here the costs of mandatory shots, deworming, sterilization costs, defense against parasites and the micro-chipping expense. Therefore, to boost your spare money already from the start isn’t a silly thing.

Namely, as the time has passed, it’ll be necessary to think about unexpected expenses. Your main recurrent spending might be upkeep with vet exams and possible treatings. Your budget also should be capable of bear the grooming expenses if a pro performs that.

Conclusion

Finally, you’ll additionally discover an eternal supply of canine training books as well as videos. Dog grooming programs, private training lessons for your pet and dog exercises also require some money. And I didn’t even mention the costs that may be necessary for the preparations for dog competitions and exhibitions, the related travel and supply and the like.

I hope, I was able to demonstrate that you do not hold the dog for free. So, I tell you again, put aside money in reserves. You’ll also require it when making the annual photographs of your furry friend being on Santa’s lap!

Obviously, the above-mentioned things don’t mean that you cannot keep a loving and devoted dog companion. My article basically intended to highlight the dog keeping responsibilities. The point is to do not tamper lightly into one relationship without seeing the things behind.

Dog Ownership Includes Rescuing Animals

I firmly believe, providing a chance of a happy and healthy life for a dog is well worth the money. Among other things, this is also the reason that I rescued a puppy (left) from the street yesterday. Anyway, in one of my following posts, I will give you money-saving tips, related to dog ownership.

How to Identify Mixed Breed Dogs?

A very large number of canines is adopted from shelters annually, thank goodness! I know that the significant part of them is mixed breeds. (I experienced this when I worked there as a volunteer.) So, I’m not surprised at all, when plenty of persons are interested about their canine’s heritage. It’s an all-day event to do guessing games if you get a mixed-breed dog. Determining what your new doggie’s dad and mom and grandparents could be is funny.

You possibly can look for many tale-teller indicators. These could be what sort of ears your animal possesses or which type of coat he has? What is his coloration and what dimension he has? And even more could be listed. You may also contemplate regardless if your mixed breed canine has any particular abilities like terrier characteristics or herding skills.

Determining Possibilities

zizi,-our-Lab-GSD-mixed-breed-dogOf course, you may be resolute about determining your dog’s background. Your vet can help you to determine the breed if he has decades of experience. Otherwise, he also will be puzzled because dog breed determining wasn’t a Course in universities so far.

Then you could search for genetic testing out there to assist decide what breeds might be your new dog’s heritage. The Dog Heritage Breed Test was available primarily in 2007 by the firm known as MetaMorphix. You can obtain the test publicly for approximately $75.

As stated by the company’s website, a dog owner merely asks for getting a kit and uses the brush-tipped swob supplied to gather DNA from inside the canine’s cheek. You send the package back to the firm, and the results arrived within four to six weeks.

However, as you might have guessed, all that glitter is not gold! Namely, several downsides occur related to this testing. Presently, the firm solely deals with some of the most typical dog breeds. It may happen that your ‘combined’ breed canine comes with an ancestor from within an unusual breed.

Then it’s probable that the assessment will be unable to determine that breed and replaced with something else. Numerous individuals with registered purebred canines have spent money on the examination. And they get an incorrect result, so the precision of this testing can be questionable.

One individual paid to acquire his canine examined two occasions. And the animal obtained different outcomes in both cases. Identical dog gets completely distinctive outcomes? Och, this does not support the credibility of the test.

But, you don’t necessarily need to get stuck in their testing. There are other companies, which offer breed analysis, one of them even claims to examine 157 breeds, based on a blood sample.

Others, like the Canine Heritage XL product makes use of a cheek swab. It offers to supply SNP-based DNA know-how and to have the ability to determine over one hundred main dog breeds. And I’ve read about a company that undertakes to identify more than two hundred varieties.

Can You Trust Them?

It might be comforting to be aware of its heritage if you have a mixed-breed furry pal, simply for well-being shake. However, it’s best to realize that suchlike tests are only able to give a snapshot related to the ancestry of your canine. They are not the type of DNA exams, which show paternity.

They can let you know if your favorite is a component Collie. Though they cannot inform you if the Collie in your neighborhood was its father. You would want another DNA testing to get certainty in dedication, using DNA samples getting from that canine, the hypothetically parent.

The breed heritage evaluations happen to be advised as a method to exclude certain canines in dog bite instances. However, once more, the testing isn’t particular enough to determine certain dogs. They are only able to propose potential mixes between breeds. And, right now, there remains to be doubt about the precision of a few of the testing.

My Additions

My friend, I must confess I knew the above options but never used them. I had quite a few dog breeds since I’m dealing with these animals. Some of them were purebred dogs, and others were mixed breeds. In the last 36 years, I only kept rescued dogs from the street and shelters.

And as a long-time dog fancier, I set up a standard for myself. I always loved to deal with different dogs regardless of is there a pedigree or not. I know their requirements and always tried to provide that as it was possible. And a mixed-breed dog was just as grateful for the care as a purebred.

I believe it’s fantastic to bring home a shelter / rescue canine. There are numerous dogs, which are searching for their loving home. So, I’d suggest you looking up local rescue organization if you want to obtain a dog with particular traits. Not ALL canines are pure-bred there; however, most are a minimum of a mixture of a rescue’s breed, and you are a savior of an animal’s life.

P.S.: The reason behind today’s topic is a debate that I read on some of the dog forums. The comments’ section is open for your related question or opinion. It would be useful for our community to get to know your own experiences. Thank You!

Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

Dog Tails Should Be Docked?

I’m experiencing some debate – especially in Europe – when it comes to dog tails should be docked or not. There are people who feel that it is unnecessary or even cruel to dock a dog’s tail. They think that tails are docked for purely cosmetic reasons, and that practice should be stopped. However, the tails of dogs of some breeds have been docked for centuries for non-cosmetic reasons. Here’s why.

Traditions

Throughout history, the tails of some breeds have been docked for different reasons. At various times some dog owners were taxed by their governments depending on how many dogs with tails they had so dog owners docked the tails of some breeds in order to avoid paying the taxes.

pointer-dog-with-docked-tailEven after the taxes were repealed, owners continued to dock the breeds they had begun docking for other reasons. A great number of breeds were and are docked to prevent injury. This applies particularly to hunting dogs.

Health Aspects

Dogs who work in the field are prone to collecting burrs and foxtails in heavy cover as well as hurting their tails while wagging. This leads to wounds, pain and infection. Docking the tail prevents these injuries.

For other breeds, tails are traditionally docked for the sake of cleanness. People want to keep feces from becoming attached to long fur. For some guarding and herding breeds, tails have been docked to prevent injury while working.

In virtually every case where a breed standard calls for tail docking there is a reason for the docking relating to concern for the dogs’ welfare.

Controversy

Opponents of tail docking claim that dogs today could be allowed to have long tails or could be bred to be tailless. Dog owners, breeders, and plenty of veterinary surgeons are an opponent of this opinion. They share their point of view that if docking discontinued, the canines would be forced to suffer.

As for breeding dogs without a tail, here is an example. In one breed, the Braque du Bourbonnais, French breeders tried to breed for taillessness and ended up with an extinct breed. They are only now trying to bring their breed back from extinction by breeding half-bred dogs.

They were so focused on breeding for dogs with no tails that their numbers dwindled to zero. The same thing can happen to any breed that becomes fixated on one trait.

The Tail Docking

Tail docking is done on puppies when they are just a few days old. So, there is no evidence that they feel any more pain from tail docking than puppies feel from having their dew claws removed.

The American Kennel Club states the further supports tail docking, as well as ear cropping and dew claw removal. In breeds that call for dogs with docked tails, individual parent clubs decide whether or not dogs with long tails are allowed to be shown at dog shows.

In the UK tail docking is banned except for working dogs used for their traditional job of work.  Any dog is a working canine if a vet has certified that the animal is likely to be used for work. That relates in connection with the following law enforcement, armed forces’ activities, emergency rescue, lawful pest control, and the legal shooting of animals.

The Canadian Kennel Club, like the AKC, supports the practice of tail docking when performed on young puppies. So, around the world numerous Kennel Clubs acknowledge approximately fifty dog breeds docked traditionally.

My Observations

boxer-with-docked-tailI dealt with Vizsla and Doberman, and Boxer dog was in our household too. I experienced they wag their tails very intensively because of being hyperactive. These dogs’ tail develops without hair, so there is nothing to protect it. Moreover; the skin is thin there. Due to these things, they are quite vulnerable.

The animal smashed its tail to something, and at best, it became “only” bloody by beating up to the bone, at worse it will be broken. Unfortunately, I have seen more of these cases during decades. That tremendously hurt the adult dog, after all – by medical recommendation – the cutting was applied.

Similarly, to us humans, that wound is much painful, and the healing takes considerably longer. In contrast, newborn puppies have soft cartilages, and nervous system isn’t developed, so they feel nothing. I have seen that the shepherd cut the tail of newborn little lambs.

The little newborns didn’t notice that, namely they didn’t squeak at all. They romped around as if nothing had happened to them. Albeit, they’re more developed at their birth than dog puppies. And I’m an advocate of the “rational” animal protection.

Which Party Gets the Dog in Divorce?

A divorce is a very tricky matter, not just for the people involved, but also for the family dog. The process unavoidably bring the sharing of material goods two people possess. What both of you bring into the connection from the start is divided now. This is natural when it comes to properties. However, do you know what happens whenever you possess a dog collectively?

Determining what you should do with a household pet that you just owned with your ex together generally is a tough and emotive combat. Even though it’s quite simple to state that you’d like to get your Poodle yourself, it’s better to keep in mind your canine’s interest when arbitrating its post-splitting destiny.

Every circumstance is different when it comes to separating a dog from someone or giving to. There are cases every day in which these matters are subject to judgment before the court. Fortunately, there are several ways of proceeding. Now I just pronounce these as I heard from a divorce judge the other day.

If a Dog Is a Gift

Assuming that the dog has not been included among the assets to be divided by the divorcing couple. Then the first way of looking at things is based on the simple facts of the law: who gave what to whom? If someone gave a dog to the husband, but he gave the dog to the wife, whose dog is it?

which-party-gets-the-dog-in-divorceIn a case like this, the law would determine that the dog belongs to the wife because the husband gave it to her as a gift. A court could also decide to look at a case from the point of view of what was in the best interests of the dog.

What’s the Dog’s Interest?

It may happen that Mrs. X actually owned the dog but the animal was clearly devoted to Mr. X. In this case, the court could decide to award the dog to Mr. X based on the bond between the dog and Mr. X.

An evolving body of law, however, has been deciding who gets the dog based on a different standard. They have been asking, “Who cares for the dog?”  In other words, who is the person who feeds the dog, bathes the dog, and takes the dog to the vet?

This may be how the court determines what is in the true best interest of the dog. They can award the dog to the person who has shown that they are capable of providing care for the dog and bear the costs.

Other Considerations

So, deciding who gets the dog is not a black and white matter in courts. It will depend on which standard a court decides to use. It may depend on who wants the dog more. It may depend on negotiations and bargaining behind the scenes.

What effect this fuss may have to the dog’s life in the future? Undoubtedly, the dog may be somewhat confused to have his routine upset. And in addition, it loses one of the regular people in his life. An outside observer would not be able to judge without knowing the facts.

However, the picture will have a tinge if there have been ongoing fights and tensions within the home. In that case, the dog may be better off living with just one person in a more harmonious situation.

My Remark

Who knows? Perhaps a judge could award joint custody and the divorced spouse would be able to occasionally visit the dog. You possibly watched the film “The Awful Truth” where Irene Dunne and Cary Grant go to court to decide who gets Mr. Smith, their Wire Fox Terrier.

What happened was that Irene Dunne cheated and used a toy to get Mr. Smith to come to her. Apart from that, Cary Grant is allowed to visit the dog. There was a relative happy ending. However, life might bring that not all divorces have happy endings.

My friend, I must state that I’m not a lawyer. This entry is the result from the conversation I made with a dog owner who is coincidentally a divorce judge with 38 years experience. Apart from that, I find it good that at least courts are trying to place dogs in the best situations.

P.S.: Imagine, you’re now reading your dog instead for the fair housing him in divorce. Hopefully, you and your dog are not a subject of such a court matter. Please, share the impact this post evoked in you in the comments. Thank You!

Small Canine, But It’s Even Dog

Hi,

I always knew I wasn’t perfect, but I tried to approach that status. Among other things, it’s also one of my weaknesses that I always attracted to the medium and large dogs. I had only a few small dogs in my household, not to mention the puppies born here. Apart from that, I know several breeds of them by visiting dog shows, talking with other dog people and vets. And I know personally small canine owners and their dogs as well.

small-canine-shih-tzu-in-gardenYou can see and hear interesting stories by consulting others. Some say that her little Shih Tzu asleep in her bed and eats from the table. Another small dog owner showed me the collar studded with rhinestones she just purchased. She said that her Papillon shrills if left alone and screams seeing another dog.

There is a Chihuahua owner who complained her doggie squawks loudly if it doesn’t get what it wants. I haven’t any doubt why these little build canines behave this way. I always tell that to mess up the puppy upbringing is the easiest.

Now I would like to improve this claim: the education of small breed puppies is even easier to mess up. And based on my experience, unfortunately, that’s what happened quite often. Consequently, by the time the dog reaches adolescence it’s fixed to the undesirable habits.

 A Small Dog Isn’t Dog?

I find it appropriate to ask, why there are so many small dog behavior problems? Maybe they are impossible to teach them in the same way? Or small dogs cannot be able to do the same as their larger counterparts? To search for the answer we don’t need to exam the dogs, but their owners, I think.

Because of their animal’s small size, the owners often cannot (and often not even want) to regard them as dogs. A small dog can fit into your pocket, don’t bother in your bed, easy to pick up if you happen to think … Obviously, to do these will be more difficult with a 99 pounds Rottweiler or a Komondor.

In earlier times, these little dogs (or at least their ancestors) had their own duties as, for example, a shepherd or guard dog breeds. Today, however, these doggies are not dogs as many people think. It might as well call them the supplement of children.

Alternatively, you can name them (on a humiliating manner) for cats, because, unfortunately, many people tend to treat them that way. But, apart from that, the dog still stays dog … with a lot of unwanted and poorly entrenched behavioral problems.

Puppy Ages of Small Dogs

It may be unbelievable for someone but a Yorkie or a Maltese puppy has the same puppy-hood completely than a Saint Bernard or an Amstaff. And if you want a physically and mentally healthy, well-balanced dog, you need to try to raise him into awareness of this right from the start.

You should pay attention to the same problems and educational principles with a small dog like a bigger bodied peer. In this article, I only want to point out two mistakes that are typically use to commit owners of small dogs.

Snacking … a Piece of Me, a Piece of the Dog

I mean a small bite of the main course, a little dessert, a piece of chocolate, a bit of potato chips. It wouldn’t come to mind the consequences while we meet the eager eyes begging for bites. Although, we build a fundament of behavioral problems and also endanger the health of our favorites.

The dog (the little dog, too!) is a prey oriented beast. Her stomach isn’t evolved for purpose of processing a variety of nutrients in half hourly. Not to mention the fact that – especially in the development phase of puppies – we can cause serious damage doing this kind of spoiling.

In addition to the constant snacking, your pooch will not get its own need to enter the standard feed specifically designed for him. Which is resulted in a not only picky, but an ill-nourished, unhealthy dog. The composition of the human food doesn’t meet a doggie in development, but also not for your adult dog.

So, often in their puppy-hood they develop various developmental disorders – due to inadequate feeding. In addition, you lose your authority  in the eyes of your puppies. As a pack animal, your dog will never respect you as a leader when his own will prevails already in his puppy times.

The Importance of Teaching Your Small Dog

Unfortunately, I rarely see a small dog who – at the first word – could walk without a lead beside the owner’s foot. I could additionally mention the actions of Sit, Down, etc. or even Come back to the owner when the command is said at first occasion. Again, the fault is also can be searched not in the dog’s ability …

Although, a small dog is capable to learn the same training commands such as their larger conspecifics. But, for some reason, many owners devoted much less time to that in their case. However, the dealing with dogs, the consistent training is equally important from the outset, as the right nutrition.

You need to find time for your dogs! It isn’t sufficient if he is watching TV when sitting in your lap. The same is with that you go down twice daily for a ten-minute walk with cell phone in your hand. Our dog does need to be both physically and mentally tired sufficiently.

Conclusion

My friend, take the trouble to teach your small dog at least the basic training commands. Play a lot with him and find out challenges suitable to their psychique. With these activities you prevent not only your home deterioration, but those also help to build a more robust dog-owner relationship between you. In addition, you could walk with your doggie much prouder if you don’t have to worry about time s/he running out in front of a car.

P.S.: Has the topic attracted your attention? What’s the size of your furry pal? What are your thoughts about dealing with little dogs? Please, speak your mind in the comments. Thank You!

Dewclaws Should Be Remained or Removed?

I’ve heard already different opinions about that dogs’ dewclaws should be remained or removed. The topic came up recently when a Jack Russell Terrier owner asked for my advice on this. I asked the lady about the age and health of her doggie as well as behavioral habits, and housing conditions. As her pooch is three months old, I recommend her to consult her vet and when the time of spaying her animal arrived, perform it as well. But let’s look at the matter more closely.

What Are Dewclaws Actually?

dog-paws-with-dewclawsMost dogs are born with a vestigial fifth claw on the inside of front paw. This is called a “dewclaw.”  In the United States, for most breeds, this tiny dewclaw is removed soon after birth. In Europe there are people who believe that dewclaws should not be removed.

On that breeds where dewclaws aren’t character types, usually only single (i.e. one piece on one foot) used to appear. And it is very rare bony,  usually is just a piece of skin with tiny claws. It is easily separated, so breeders often truncate that on newborn puppies.

Why Removing Is Recommended?

Dewclaws have traditionally been removed for reasons of safety for your dog. In many breeds, the dewclaw is attached rather high up on the leg, far above the other nails on the paw. It does not wear down during use.

The dewclaw can grow big and become quite sharp. Thus, it’s much easier for it to be entangled on things than the other nails. When the dewclaw get stuck itself on something, it can injure your dog. In the worst cases, it can rip or tear right off your dog’s leg. I also have seen examples of this earlier.

Of course, all of a dog’s nails – including the dewclaw if remained – should be trimmed regularly. That will help prevent the nails from catching on anything. But, even when the dewclaw is kept trimmed it is often set off from the leg and likely to get stuck on something.

Most people in the United States believe that the dewclaw does not serve a useful purpose anymore. Furthermore, that it is simplest to remove it soon after birth in order to avoid injuries.

When Remaining Is Accepted

I’ve to say that I met a few French sheepdogs. They were Great Pyrene (Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées), Beauceron (Berger de Beauce) and Briard (Berger de Brie) breeds. These animals have a dewclaw not only on their first but on rear legs as well.

These French shepherd dogs have five toes in their front feet, and set six toes on the rear. That’s their breed standard and they use those dewclaws sometimes. However, these dewclaws are bony and stable, settled at least 4-6 centimeters high above the pads.

There are some people who maintain the beliefs that dogs use the dewclaw to balance themselves when making sharp turns while running. And I am inclined to accept this.

Namely, I’ve seen agility competitions where the dewclaws were beneficial. Simply, they can grip when dogs are jumping or hitting the ground. So, the dewclaws can help in the tight turns that significantly influence the scoring.

The Declaws Removing Action

Dewclaws are usually removed when puppies are three or four days old. A breeder typically takes the mother into the vet’s office to be checked after whelping. And the  pups go along at the same time to have their dewclaws removed.

The entire process of removing the dewclaws on a litter of puppies only takes a few minutes. The vet places a hemostat on the dewclaw to make the area numb. And then he picks dewclaws off at the joint. A small suture is applied. The puppies are ready to go home very shortly.

It may happen that the dewclaws are left on, and they need to be removed later. However, then the process does become much more serious and requires surgery. The removing method is similar as above mentioned, but the vet applies Neosporin and bandaging over the wound.

In this respect, it’s a lot easier, and in the best interest of your puppy, to remove them during the first week. Anyway, in Europe there is some opposition to removing dewclaws just as there is opposition to docking tails and cropping ears. They consider dewclaw removal “mutilation” of the dog.

The European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals opposes many traditional methods of caring for dogs and other pets. However, the tenets of the convention have not been accepted by all European countries.

My Take on It

As we can perceive from above, the picture isn’t unambiguous. I know hunters and people actively working with dogs in Europe. They usually truncate not only the dewclaws (if they appeared at all), but the fifth toes of the front legs as well.

As for my dogs, I’ve made removed dewclaws by a vet always. When I did breeding before, the situation was similar. I’ve stopped the breeding long ago but always made removed my dogs’ dewclaws.

If your dog doesn’t break it down, and it doesn’t cause damage, you’ll need to check periodically its developing. If it is too big, or it hinders the move – possibly it may have been turned back like an eagle’s claw – it must pick off with a nail clipper tweezers. A professsional groomer or your vet will do that in no time.

P.S.: It’s your turn: Has the topic attracted your attention? What are your thoughts or experiences about removing or remaining of dewclaws? Speak your mind in the comments below. Thank You!

The Hungarian Mudi Dog Breed

Would you like to live together with a dog that’s a great hiking companion? Possibly, you want a canine which gets along well with children? Alternately, you’d require that your pooch live in peace with other pets (Guinea pig, cat, etc.)? What if I tell you about the Mudi dog breed that covers these requirements?

The Origin of the Mudi Dog Breed

Hungarian-Mudi-dogThe Mudi (pronounced “moodie”) dog breed has an attention-grabbing historical past, blended with some guess. Because I had Ficusa rescued male Mudi for years – I felt like to look after some things from the history of this breed. Here’s what I found.

The Mudi’s development as a breed related back to the European history of XVIII – XIX centuries. According to historians, the trade of slaughter and breeding animals experienced its golden era between Hungary and other European countries at that time.

People herded these animals on foot to the destination country – namely rail or truck didn’t exist. And the people accompanying the cattle were using dogs as their assistants. Evidently, these herding dogs had chance to mixing each other a spontaneous way.

So it happened that the erect-eared Spitz type German shepherd canines herded Merino sheep to Hungary. (The Racka was the original Hungarian sheep with a coarse wool, but that wasn’t suitable for all purpose. Thus, they imported the Merino sheep, because that had finer wool.)

It’s quite natural that these foreign dogs – while herded the sheep – felt in love with a Magyar herding dog, the Puli. These blending resulted in the Mudi dog bred’s evolution – roughly 300 years ago.

Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon was a French naturalist, and the leader of the Royal Botanic Garden. He discussed the kingdoms of animals and minerals in his ‘Histoire naturelle, générale et particulière’ work in 1773. And he primarily mentioned and depicted the Mudi as a sheepdog – in his work.

Furthermore, Ferenc Pethe (1763-1832), a journalist and economic writer was the next person who mentioned the Mudi dog breed within his “Természethistória és mesterségtudomány” (in English: History of Nature and Craft Science) book in 1815.

The breed documentation continued by Lajos Méhely (1862-1953) in 1902 as well as by Otto Herman (1835-1914) in 1912. Regardless of these, his organized breeding began later than the other herding types of Hungary. And presumably, this fact led to that people wasn’t distinguished Mudi species from the breeds of Puli and Pumi for a long time.

I’ve to mention Dr. Dezső Fényes – the museum director of Balassagyarmat, Hungary. Dr. Fényes took the bulk part of spreading this dog breed. He purposefully bred them in the first half of the twentieth century. Then he launched a few Mudi in a breeding animal fair in 1936.

At the same time, Dr. Fényes also submitted the primary standard of this breed – co-operating with Dr. Csaba Anghy. The Evaluation Committee agreed on the description, along with the ‘Mudi’ breed title. The Second World War thinned the Mudi breed largely – like other Hungarian species – so it was close to extinction.

The Mudi is a real working dog, almost relentless and the herding is in his blood. It would have been a shame to let this dog breed disappear. Fortunately, there were people who devoted enough to value the Mudi’s abilities and prevented them from that fate.

The seeking out the remaining species and involve them in breeding is due to several Mudi enthusiastic fans. Mr. Zoltán Balássy was that person who indited the new standard in 1963 and the FCI accepted that.

Appearance of the Mudi Dog

Speaking about the Mudi, I’m saying I like the music. The Mudi dog actually doesn’t possess a specific look. And its appearance is most similar to the soft flute music. Why am I thinking so? On my opinion, the beauty of the flute music lies just in its simplicity and purity.

It is known that the flute – besides the bands – also was the instrument of shepherds. They are often uttered it while guarding the flock. I was lucky enough to hear my grandpa’s flute play while the sheep glazing, in my childhood. And the Mudi is just like that flute sound.

The compact, harmonic structure, impish face, wavy coat, curly tail lends an unspoiled, natural appearance to him. Moreover, besides the traditional black bold color variations, he exists in white, cream-colored, bluish and flashy (marbled) variations. These colors deservedly take up to compete in diversity and spectacular of other similar species.

It has a well-defined withers and a short, straight back. This pooch comes with a cleat-shaped head, upright ears, mediocre bones. The concise corpus develops a top line which goes through slope. He has short, smooth hair on its face and the legs’ front side. The remaining coat is longer in certain extent.

Temperament

It is important to all living creatures to see themselves and their own role in the world properly. A dog should know what’s expected from it in different situations, what is right and wrong behavior. Furthermore, it should be aware of whom to belong and whom to obey. It has to learn the proper behavior with people, other animals, and other dogs.

The Mudi is a rare dog, belongs to the herding group. This is an exceptionally intelligent dog breed, even its owner is often surprised by his behavior. There are other types of working dogs, which pick up a thing at 10 – 15 sessions in dog schools.

But, the most Mudi is perfectly able to do it without fail after only 1-2 occasions. He learns incredible quickly, because he watches its owner with its one eye and half-ear always. So you quasi cannot mess up him. Unless if you are too lenient, because Mudi soon realizes where the limit is.

The Mudi is so versatile dog that people used them for many purposes; hunting beasts as well as weasels and mice, guarding flocks, herding cow and sheep, and alert dog equally. He’s able to herd his flock of 500 or 1000 sheep on his own by co-operating with the shepherd.

Of course, if he accustomed to dealing with the rough Hungarian Grey Cattle and a cow want to combat, one Mudi isn’t enough to do the tasks. This is even truer in the case of the bull, where at least three dogs are necessary to reimburse that animal to common sense, so to speak.

He always likes to stay close to you, his owner. But, even in your apartment, he isn’t in your way, he hides not to interfere you. For example, my Mudi hid under chairs, table, etc. and watched my moves from there. He was almost unstoppable hanging on me, but wasn’t intrusive.

If it was necessary, my Ficus could lie in one place for hours. However, a low snap was enough for him to jump up to sit in front of me. He was waiting for a command with glowing cheeks and shining eyes. He did all activities with such enthusiasm that was incredible.

The breed takes a lot of movement needs. This dog can still keep fit not only our minds, but our bodies as well. It  loves kids, mostly reconcilable with other animals, cats too. But, if you’ve a male canine with dominant character, he might look for conflicts with other male dogs easily.

To avoid problems, it’s advisable to socialize your doggie as early as possible.

Keeping Requirements

The Mudi feels himself well outdoors where there is enough space to running around as he wishes. He isn’t very demanding type of canine; you can keep it outside without problem. The shepherds in Hungary are using it as their herding assistant these days, too.

This dog is a very loyal companion to his master, and prone to adhere to someone in your family. It is a kid loving animal, and you can experience the protective behavior towards your children in their relationship.

These working dogs are extraordinarily obedient in direction to their owners. They’re reserved; however, touchable by strangers if their master is present. The shepherds like and by some means respect their canines, but additionally give them as a tough life as themselves are alive.

This dog has a relatively short-haired coat and his shedding isn’t significant. The Mudi does not bark for any reason. Of course, there are exceptions, but, with proper teaching most of them decrease that.

This dog breed is smart and willing to learn. The shepherds train them one by one, and they don’t train a puppy or an adolescent or adult dog together at the same time. Because they all have to learn different things.

Nowadays, the so-called ‘agility’ and ‘dog dancing’ competitions spread, and many Mudi are the partaker in these, with great success.

About the Breed’s Health

When you want to buy a working dog – besides excellent internal properties – it’s increasingly important the health characteristics’ knowledge of it. In this aspect, the Mudi is between the luckiest. This dog breed is practically free from hereditary diseases in his homeland Hungary.

My Opinion

Who I would NOT recommend this breed for? The Mudi isn’t suitable to a person

– who doesn’t like to move,

– who isn’t lucky to have enough time and commitment to dealing with it,

– who seeks a real guard dog (but the Mudi is excellent in alert).

If you’re seeking a lively, agile companion and family dog, but don’t want to be a ball throwing servant for a hyper active canine, the Mudi can be your best choice. He is indefatigable in sports, games, work, but if you’re looking forward to relaxing, your Mudi is laze beside you happily.

Nevertheless, you need to keep in mind that this dog breed wants to be there always where the owner resides. That’s the reason the Mudi expressly suffers if you don’t care about him, you only toss him to the rear of your garden.

Of course, we mustn’t forget that the herding is the original occupation of Mudi, and he has independent decision-making ability. He isn’t a servant spirit rather self-willed.

So depends on you how you control him and are able to live with that trait. If you are able to find the balance with this great and intelligent dog, you will be happy for long years.

Poodle Dog Breed Revealed

The Poodle dog isn’t unknown to me; I saw them in TV many times decades ago. And I have also been to see them live in circus show with my family. I observed how smart they were and how skillfully fulfilled the requests of their master. And their trimmed appearance was truly a masterpiece of beauty. Thus, I researched this breed and present you the result here.

The Poodle Dog Breed’s History

When I researched their origin, I faced with uncertainties. According to one opinion, the Poodle dog originated from France. Others claim that the root of this breed can be found in Central Asia. In yet another type of opinion is that the cradle of the breed rocked in Germany.

I also met with the view that Northwest Africa (Algeria and Morocco) could be their starting point. Suppose this latter is true (if), nevertheless, this dog should have been in Europe very early. Namely, quite a few Poodle-like trimmed and reminiscent of Poodle dog can be seen on different antique objects, especially from the time of Emperor Augustus.

Standard-Poodle-dog-listenThat’s probable that the Poodle may look back to water dog ancestors. You may filter out from research that the breed probably evolved from mixture of a shaggy-haired hound and sheepdogs. Originally, they used a large-sized Poodle to retrieve prey from water and hunting. Anyway, the love of the water is typical in most of today’s Poodle.

By all means, a stone-carved Poodle can be seen in the famous cathedral of Amiens, France. And a Poodle dog portrayal can be observed on the tombstone of Henry II, too. Poodles were portrayed by several painters like the famous German Albrecth Dürer around the 15th  – 16th century.

The Flemish Van Dyck and the Spanish Francisco Goya also painted them later. Moreover, it should be noted other painters like the English Landseer and the French Toulouse-Lautrec. When it comes to literary example is Goethe’s hero Mephistopheles returned to earth in the form of a Poodle dog. Charles Dickens also dealt with this canine in his work.

Richard Wagner, the illustrious German composer also had a faithful Poodle, who accompanied Wagner until his orchestra. The dog often was waiting for his beloved master at the reception of the theater after it roamed the streets of the city.

The wealthy families preferred to see their dogs on pictures. However, there were some minor variations, these were the favorite pets of the noble European families, too. The Poodle dog was widespread in Germany around 1700 where people started their active breeding.

How the Usability Evolved?

The Poodle dog breed’s usability is manifested besides hunting in a number of areas. They served in military, driving blinds, pulling small wagons of magicians, guard dog, and circus artist. Then arrived a time when these doggies were the trendy companion for upscale women.

The French aristocrats also started to favor Poodles in an extent that these animals became France’s official dog. The whole body of this dog was covered with long and curly, woolly hair around 1850. At this time, the strange habit arose to trim the Poodle partly. But it had to make sense.

They cut off the back half of the animal for that the watery, long hair doesn’t impede swimming. However, they left pompons on the ankle and knee joints as well as kidney area. Reason was that the cold water cannot cause any damage to the dogs.

The hair above the eyes was tied up with colorful ribbons to allow better vision for the dog. And, this colorful ribbon allowed the hunter to recognize his hunting dog from far distance.

Around 1860, the Poodle’s began to decline, and more and more suppressed with other dogs. Chance of a stringy haired Poodle dog has spread to discourage people from this race, because this kind of coat was very labor-intensive to develop. Nevertheless, people formed the Poodle Club of England in 1876.

The German Poodle friends, however, did not give up. They introduced the registration of Poodles. The  register book was published in 1904, which survived to the present day. At the same time (besides Germany and France) they bred a Poodle breed in England.

As for the name, Poodle is probably originated from the German word ‘Pudel’. That word means ‘splash into water’ in English. This word is perfectly related the dog’s task, the retrieving prey from water. This dog performed the same task in Belgium and Holland. People named it ‘Poedel’ there.

In France in the early 1900s, it wasn’t really the popular breed, almost completely extinct. So, the British-born Nunsoe Dapper was imported to France, and they gave him the ‘Footit de Madjigé’ name in the 1930s. It started the breeding process with him again, so the French Poodle breeding revived.

In addition – besides to the stringy-haired Poodle – the woolly-haired breed appeared once more as well. The German and French Poodle Breeders revised the Poodle breed standard in 1936. This standard is, in effect, still today; they just changed little things.

For example, they complemented the black, white and brown colors with silver and apricot colors. The so-called modern shear mode (Caracul-shear) increased the popularity of the Poodle dog even before the Second World War.

The first official record of the presence of the Poodle dog in the United States was in 1878. People organized a show in Boston, and eight species represented this breed. 1896 was the year when the American Poodle Club founded, later that have been reorganized in 1931.

The Size of the Poodle Dog

Miniature-Poodle-dog-at-agility-trialThis breed exists in three version: Standard, Miniature and Toy. These are belonged to the same breed with simple size difference. The smallest is the Toy Poodle, stands as much as 10 inches in height with around 9 pounds in weigh.

The next in the row is the Miniature Poodle. It stands between 11 – 15 inches tall (measured in shoulder height), and his weight is 15 – 17 pounds. The Standard Poodle‘s height is between 15 and 22 inches size range. In weighing the males are typically from 45 to 70 pounds. The females are lighter. They weighed between 45 – 60 pounds.

Temperament

You will discover most Poodles to be of the Standard breed or the Miniature type. The Standard Poodle dog is contemplated to be probably the most smart and obedient canine breeds. This animal integrates adventure and cheerfulness into an overpowering character.

And many individuals discover that mixture adoring. These dogs enjoy retrieving, running and swimming. The Standard type is great with children and makes an amazing household pet.

The Miniature version represents the middle path. The Poodle in miniature size is intelligent, lovely, biddable, and really desperate to your please. It’s not annoyingly twitchy, but also you cannot operate it underway.:)) It’s not too big for taking into your lap and not too small to being a dog.

It may be susceptible and shows satisfaction in loyal devotion to one particular person in your family. In fact, it can work excellent in a household setting. The Miniature Poodle is superb with kids and will get along nice to other family pets.

Each variation not only in size, but also differ in temperaments. The Toy type is almost hyperactive, who liked to hang as a tick on you. They are virtually sick because of the owner’s absence, and live through even the short separation as a practical fatal trauma.

The Standard is the opposite in everything, of course. It’s stately in appearance, proud and calm indefinitely. These versions almost don’t pay attention to the admiring glances of amazed appreciative audience in exhibitions. They behave as if they were a bit pretentious. (But that’s okay for me!)

In their education, you should avoid rudeness by all means. If you apply the rude treatment on them, you just wade into their sensitive soul. An increased sound volume or strict look is enough to discipline. The Poodle dog isn’t prone to show rough behavior or aggression anyway.

Upkeep And Maintenance

No matter what version of Poodle dog you might have, they all want plenty of human interactions from your part. Physical train and psychological games must be part of its everyday program. Brisk stroll mixed with challenging classes would make a super exercise drill for your doggie.

The Miniature Poodle requires a bit lighter exercise than the Standard type, however each discover a pleasure with retrieving preys, particularly if the water isn’t deep. Every Poodle dog prefers dwelling indoors only. That’s their spiritual desire.

Consequently, you need to avoid keeping your doggie live outdoors. They’re merely happier when staying with your family together. You will see that your Poodle enjoys snuggle to you and being showered with its loving owner means an unspeakable joy to him.

I was thinking that this doggie is extremely intelligent, but I din’t think it is so conscious having idea how itself looks like. He possibly wants to be decorative also, and not only their owner’s desire is their magical appearance. Is there some truth on both sides? I don’t know.

Apart from that, the Poodle’s coat requires regular care; beauty doesn’t come free. You need to start that already in their puppy hood. The daily care starts with the brushing. For this operation, you need a special rubber-embedded nickel pinned small brush. Firstly, you brush the hair the same direction of hair growth and after that against it.

Toy-Poodle-dog-in-grassYou’ll brush from the head towards the tail and then combed the same way. You may begin brushing with a rare-toothed comb then apply a fine one. You always have to be comb the hairs through to the skin to remove all the hairs fall out.

The story goes about the Poodle that it doesn’t shed hair. This is partly true, as he doesn’t shed the dead hairs. Namely, those hairs adhere to the other living hairs, and they can only be removed during brushing. You need to find quarter hours time for brushing and combing daily. I think it is not a sacrifice to be beautiful, well-groomed Poodle, whom everyone admired.

Of course, you cannot brush out the matted coat. But you can prevent that formation by the daily maintenance. If you neglect the daily care – for some reason – and the coat matted, your only solution remains the completely mechanical shearing. It is better to avoid that, believe me.

I also need to mention the bathing. The Poodle dog was always a water-dog, so the water will not harm him. However, you shouldn’t bathe him too much with shampoo, as this will disturb the skin’s natural barrier function. Plenty enough if you bathe him in 4-6-week  intervals.

Health Issues

Each of the Standard Poodle and Miniature version have a median lifespan of thirteen years. Nevertheless, the Miniature Poodle might remain with you a bit further. Main health considerations for the Standard version comprise Addison’s illness, sebaceous adenitis as well as gastric torsion.

The case with Miniature Poodles is slightly different. They have potential issues with epilepsy, Legg-Perthes, patellar luxation and PRA. Each varieties needs to be particularly examined for DNA for vWD, hip dysplasia, and eye problems.

My Proposals

Please, don’t forget that the Poodle dog come from water-dog ancestors who used for hunting since ancient times. Consequently, the happy Poodle needs a lot of exercise. It will be grateful if you spend more time with him and not only within the four walls.

He will stick with you in doing big trips, and if you leave him to run himself on the field on his own pleasure. If you regularly care his body, his hair and his soul, it is sure that you’ll be an extremely pleased and proud owner of a very happy Poodle dog!
