Is Context Between Dog’s Health and Water?

When it comes to the water’s role in health, we know that no live organism can exist, operate without water. That’s how it is, an instance of that is that the water is the main component of the human body. An adult human’s body contains around 60-70% water. For example, if one weights 176 pounds, his body contains about 14,3 gal water. Well, you may find similar rates in our dogs, too. So, there is a straight context between dog’s health and the water.

Water Needs

dog-drinks-waterAs researchers have shown, your family dog’s physique comprises around of 70% water. By losing all the fats and 50% of protein of its body has less impact than he cannot get water for two days or more. It can be fatal for him if the water in your canine’s body is reduced to one tenth.

With a view to survive, an adult canine requires – at a minimum – two milliliters of water projected to each pound weight daily. That’s when considering 1 ounce contains 30 milliliters of water. However, that two milliliters are only enough for your animal to produce urine within his body.

Importance of Water

Without sufficient water vital for urine providing, your family dog or whatever canine won’t be able to live. When you are providing an infinite amount of water, your canine will consume a lot more than that two millimeters required. That is particularly true if you always provide fresh water to him.

Handing your doggie merely the smallest amount of water each day could also be sufficient for him to outlive, although not for long. Shortage in water injures the system and terminates its functions progressively. He’ll ultimately become weak, come down with a disease, and decease.

Water Utilizing Ways In Dog’s Body

The advantage of providing your family dog enough water compared to the smallest amount wanted is that its system can use that multi-mode (just like in humans).

1) The water facilitates the digesting and the process of taking nutrients from the food.

2) Our dog’s system is using the water to eliminate fuel, and that is transformed into energy.

3) You can more easily sustain the standard temperature of your dog’s physique by ingesting enough water as well.

4) Consuming sufficient water replaces the fluids which might be lost in our dog’s body by excretion.

5) The water also requires to mix various kinds of chemical substances within dog’s systems. Namely, the distinct chemical reactions ensure the dissolving and remodeling those components.

6) The water also is a transport device at the same time. It takes the nutrients to the cellular structures and in addition carries poisonous waste material from the cells to the organs for correct processing. With the lack of water, these organs won’t be able to eliminate toxic things off of the dog’s body.

7) In addition, the water is required to control the acid balance within the blood flow.

8) You may know the evergreen saying goes something like “Beauty comes from inside.” This applies to our dog’s mental health as well. Namely, if he or she is happy, and balanced, the vitality is radiating from every pore. That’s can be seen through its eyes, skin, nail, and hair condition too. And the sufficient water consumption has a big role in that as well.

My Take on It

Perhaps you can perceive from the above that the water is nearly always necessary for each function occurs within your favorite’s body. And as a result of its versatility plus the degree to which it’s utilized, water is regarded to be a crucial nutrient that’s needed for all kinds of dogs.

If your animal doesn’t get to water s/he can be died within a few days because of its dehydration. However, he can withstand the starvation; he will only be caught up by the fate when he runs out half its original weight. It’s obvious, there is a significant difference between the consequences of the lack of the two.

So giving my dog anything to eat; homemade food, meat, dry food or canned meals, I make sure fresh water is in front of her always. Especially in the summer when I’m out for several hours, I put enough fresh water in a couple of shaded places to let her drink. I never let the water bowl being empty, and I recommend you to do so as well.

P.S.: By reading this article, I hope you gained some insight related the role of water in your dog’s health. The comment section is open for your remark or question, take advantage of it. Thank You!

Care for Dogs in Summer Heat

Writing about how to care for dogs in summer heat is very timely. If your winter dream realized in a sunny weather, you’ve choices to cool yourself. You can achieve a pleasant pastime with your family and dogs outside. People are looking a river, lake, sea or a beach for refreshment. That’s fine, if you think about the increased risks associated with the heat. But, no panic, you can forestall heat issues take place to your doggie.

Where I live, we’re having a heat wave, for a month now. The biggest problem is that rain in our region was only one and a half months ago. You can only imagine what the heat distress is both man and animal. I think; you understand that animals often suffer as equal as humans in summer heat, so care for dogs is indispensable.

This is important because considering their body size and weight, the outcome occurs sooner and can be heavier. You can compare them to that child who has the same weight. Moreover, we, humans can perspire and our natural instinct urges us to get help or consume enough water. In contrast, dogs don’t sweat, because they aren’t able to do so.

Care-for-dogs-and-let-them-play-in-water-in-summer-heat

One of the sure methods to remain cool in the warmth is playing in water. And if you’re a responsible owner, your dogs do that under your supervision. The summer period can also be an excellent possibility to travel to a temperate climate with your favorite.

Preventing Sunburn and Blistering

We, humans, are able to minimize the chance of sun burning by taking place under a tree or an umbrella, possibly another shade. The right choice to guard your skin is to wear sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and protective clothing if you’re outdoors. That may be necessary even you’re within a shade.

Otherwise, you won’t realize but the sun can burn your skin surface and likewise, your pooch in no time. There are sun-sensitive surfaces such as lips, ears and nose. Therefore, preserve your canine within the shade during the burning hours. Generally, that period starts from 10 a.m. and lasts around 3 – 4 p.m.

If you cannot remain in the shade, for some reason, you may put sunscreen on your pet’s sensitive surfaces. However, you should not cover your furry pal’s lips because that would prevent the dog panting. Namely, the dogs do not hang out their tongues because the fashion dictates that.

Far from it. As I wrote here: “… we need to bear in mind that our canines lack sweat glands (unlike the people) to minimize the risk of heat. They pant in order to help to regulate their physique temperature. So, your pooch (panting with his hanging tongue) is a warmed animal.”

So, you only need to focus your attention on your pet to make certain there isn’t a sunburn. In this respect, staying on the beach sand or a dark-colored pavement for long time requires your particular attention.

Namely, remaining on easy to become hot areas the risk of skin blistering is much bigger. I always try to go or stay on grassy places if the possibilities allow. And finally, if you perceive any bladder developing, then take your pooch to your vet without delay.

Heat Exhaustion and Stroke

If your dog’s temperature reaches or goes beyond 104 degrees, a heat stroke can happen easily. The elevated temperature triggers a metabolic confusion. That means the chemicals necessary for normal body operation released.

And that can lead to cell destruction in the physic. The brain, the liver, and bowel are more vulnerable to the consequences relating to cell destruction.

The blood of a living organism becomes thicker in case of heat stroke. That will cause stress in the center because that tries to pump the heavy blood across the system. Consequently, the blood stagnates and at some point coagulates, so the tissue death befalls. Even so, this occurrence can be prevented.

I don’t know about you, so I ask; have you ever left your dog in your closed car in a parking lot? If that’s the case, it’s time to change your habit and don’t do it anymore. Namely, the main reason dogs suffered a heat stroke is leaving them there in summer heat.

If you’re forced to leave your dog in your car for some reason, then leave the air-conditioning on. In the absence of that option, provide a fan to circulate the air. If that also isn’t available, let the windows down that extent the dog cannot come out.

There are canines that are very active due to its nature. These may also develop heat stroke in the absence of shadows on an extremely heat day. Therefore, it’s advisable to lessen their exercise also in this respect.

It happens that someone really loves her dog favorite. I also love my dogs, but I try to avoid overfeed them. Namely, if your four-legged friend has overweight, or heart possibly a lung problem, it’s increasingly at risk getting a heat stroke.

And, as dogs become older their sensitivity rises, so they are prone to heat stroke or heat exhaustion. I also know a case where the irresponsible owner not thought about it and overworked his Kuvasz dog on a heat day. The nine-year-old dog died, and I felt very sorry for that beautiful animal.

If your family dog generally lives inside, then leave him home in air-conditioned room when you do your usual jogging. Of course, there may be a situation when you forced to take him with you. In this case, while you’re arranging the tasks involved in, leave him in your air-conditioned car.

There are many canines, which live outside. If you’re one of these owners, then you should be particularly careful and supply shady places for your pet. Providing umbrella or ventilated dog house are other alternatives to save your dog’s life in summer heat.

My Labrador-German Shepherd mix, Zizi is an outdoor dog, and I reduced her daily exercise. She can hide from the heat because there are many shaded places in our yard. She has four opportunities to drink fresh water in our yard when thirsty.

You probably have a more senior dog. Then it’s best to keep him interior of your home when the heat is infernal. After all, you’d want to keep him being cool and remain healthy.

Do Not Let the Water Out

The number-one method to forestall heat illnesses is providing enough fresh drinking water to your doggie. I’m trying to put water bowls into the shade always. I change the water if the sun moves through the sky and the rays reaches them.

The two-minute work is worth it to protect my dog from the heat and dehydration. By using the above tips as well as common sense, you do a serious step toward enjoy rather than suffer summer season with your dogs.

P.S. Is such an infernal heat around your living environment? How do you care for dogs? Share with us below the impact this entry elicited from you. Thank you.

How to Reduce Dogs Barking Effectively?

It goes without saying that dogs barking, after all, we cannot expect a soft nightingale singing from them. However, if your dog doesn’t make this an appropriate time and place, it can drive you and neighbors crazy. Prior to the cessation of unwanted audio broadcast, the first step is to assess why the dog barks. Let’s walk around the subject a bit.

Find Out Why Your Dogs Barking

I always follow that principle that solving a problem is impossible without exploring the causes. First of all, we have to recognize that the barking belongs to the basic nature of dogs. It’s also clear; the frequent barking can be more typical in some breeds than others.

To say the truth, a surprisingly large number of things might be the reason of barking. I used to ask my family members – if I wasn’t at home – when, under what circumstances, how and until what time our dogs barked. If no one wasn’t home during the day, I inquired the neighbors.

This way, they can see that I try to solve the problem. Possibly, you may record the happenings with a tape recorder or a video camera in your absence as well. Either way, if you manage to find the cause of the barking, the answer is self-evident in most cases.

As you perhaps know, the canines act similarly to your babies and kids. Namely, if a change occurred in their mood or physical situation, your children produce sounds. And you’re able to interpret that signal and do accordingly.

The dogs also send a sound message to us people for similar reasons. The things may be a little more difficult with them because your pooches doesn’t communicate that notice toward you in your human language. But, if you devote time to observe the intensity and the pitch of barking in different situations, you are doing a great step forward.

Solutions to Cease Dogs Barking

Different-dogs-barking-distinct-wayMy friend, be aware that our dogs don’t perceive their barking as some reprehensible act. The truth is that they are making the effort to communicate with us and other dogs. Behind their barking is a well definable reason always.

Your dog might be alerting you to some happening; he interprets as a possible threat against you or your property. Alternatively, they could indicate to you their pleasure, fear, sorrow or boredom. Or merely they are thirsty because their water is out of stock. And let’s face; it can easily happen in the current summer heat.

Is your doggie inside a strong fenced yard or linked with lead closely to something disruptive? I mean heavy traffic, deafening kids, construction, car racing track, airport or maybe a train might be distracting for your animal. And finally, he believes it’s essential for you to hear his warning.

Another option is that he may be antagonized against your neighbor’s noisy children. Whatever these outside sources appear to be the issue, you need to try locating your pet off of the irritating area. Then keep him in a special section of your yard. Another option is keeping him indoors throughout times when outdoor activities brin about issues.

My friend, before you begin the cessation of unnecessary barking, start the education of your dog with the basic commands. I mean to teach him such commands like “Sit” or “No” and similars. You can start to perform obedience exercises in occasions when your dogs begin to bark.

You cannot be successful without these. Please, do not jump plunge into the middle of things immediately. If your dog knows and performs these perfectly, then go for the cessation process!

WARNING! Never yell at your dog if your goal is to stop barking. Your shouting means the “human barking” in his eyes! With this reaction, you will emphasize that you agree to this method of communication and accept it. The result will be more barking, and that’s not what you would like.

For example, if your dog is barking wildly to the postman get used to “sit” and apply positive reinforcement if behaves right. With sufficient investment of time and patience, most dogs can be trained to bark only with permission or just in specific circumstances.

Those dogs that bark while guarding, normally become silent after the threat had disappeared. Some dog “protects” the house because he isn’t sure to whom the arrival of visitors depends. In such cases, it is important to teach your dogs; you are controlling the visitors (although the protecting behavior of your dog remains if he is home alone).

Another example: the attention-seeking dogs barking to be noticed. And when someone is approaching them, they stop the bark. It can be particularly troublesome if a dog is barking when you are talking to someone. The reason for this is that your dogs feel excluded at this time.

Stop Barking Devices

In the case when not one of the previously discussed stuffs caused the issue, you might be forced to apply a bark collar. Although you can find plenty of variations and manufacturer company names, three main types of bark collars exist out there.

There are so called “spray” collars, and they are a well-liked device. The working system is the following: you put the collar with the spray device on your dog’s neck. The spray device contains around 3 ounces of spray and works with a 6 Volt battery.

When your dog barks, he gets a bad smelling (for himself) skirt from the device. Most of the dogs – like us, people – doesn’t prefer bad smelling thing skirted to under their chin. The skirting will terminate or decrease the unpleasant barking.

This handling just isn’t inhuman or grievous for your doggie. Apart from that there’s some controversy. Namely, there may be some obstinate canines, which might be mulish enough to realize what’s happening, neglect the spray and bark further.

The next group in the row of the barking reducing devices is the ultrasonic collar. Many dog owners prefer this tool. It generates a tone and a vibration together to warn your dog. The tone is audible only to dogs because its range not reaches the human hearing level.

It’s automatically increasing the intensity of the vibration and the sound to a level that is sufficient for the canine to stop barking. Using this method is humane and doesn’t harm your dog. But, I’ve to say, the success with this device is reckoning on the willful of your pet. In other words, it’s either working or not for your dog.

Another barking stop equipment group is the so-called ‘shock’ collars. These devices have a metal contact with the dog neck. When the dog barks, the collar emits a slight, non-hazardous electrical stimulation to him. Its operation is as gradual like the sonic collars. If the dog doesn’t stop barking, the device increases the intensity of the shock in multiple levels until he discontinues.

Naturally, as with any things in life, there is some debate around the shock collars. There are people who believe that giving this kind of ‘shock’ to their dog – even it’s harmless – is morally objectionable. I think; a consultation with your vet and dog behavior specialist can eliminate your doubts on to use them or not.

We, as the owners hold the responsibility to look for why they’re dismal and assist in easing their concern. We have to learn how to teach them in situations when their anxieties aren’t established. So, consider the bark collar as your usable training device.

Conclusion

I’d like to recommend you to start with discovering the reasons of barking. If you have related knowledge and time as well as patience, then teach your dog not to bark if it’s not necessary.

In the absence of those, or if I’d have aversion toward barking collars, I’d consult a proficient trainer or my veterinarian to gather related advices. Moreover, I wouldn’t miss the possibilities of socialization and obedience classes provided in dog schools.

Best Dog Breed for Us?

I hear this question quite often: “Which would be the best dog breed for us?” I’m honored if you ask this from me, for two reasons. Partly, I see that you want to get information to make a well-grounded decision. On the other hand, I am pleased if I may share my dog keeping experience, and you benefit from that. So, let me to answer the opening question through an example of someone.

The Question

Which-is-the-best-dog-breed-for-us?We want a family dog which one can fit well. And I don’t want to look silly but am unsure: what would be the best dog breed for us? Of course, I would be the leader of the pack (as a woman). I will do the feeding, drinking, walking, caring, scratching, pampering, etc.

I hadn’t many dogs so far, and I’m not an expert. Basic things – such as sit, lie down, walk beside feet, retrieve a stick and alike – I can teach I think. But, I cannot carry through serious training.

Our bigger child is a boy, is hyperactive, always moving, very loud, running around. I’m uncertain; a more relaxed or more active dog would be good for him? By the way, he’s pretty hard to express himself, especially his feelings. That’s why I think he needs a companion, a dog mate.

The smaller is our daughter, and she is a sweet, not too bold child, but a caregiver. She feed and drink the cats always. When rain starts to fall, she immediately brings them inside. When it’s cold, she blankets them eventually.

I think, a more relaxed dog would be fine to her. But, she has so much acceptance and love that she will love the whatever dog, so I’m not worried about her. She is not used to chivy the dog. She is well accustomed to do, but a little scared when a dog jogs her, or is fierce.

My husband also loves the animals. He caresses them the same way like feed, clean up the yard, etc.. But, he is less at home, let’s just say that he could be devoting less time.

We live in a family house with a large garden that is sacred and inviolable, no scraping, digging, treading, because it can no longer go there. So it is a quite docile, obedient dog would be my desire.

Our yard is ‘dog safe’ – so to speak –  there isn’t something to ruin, or irreplaceable. And we have cats.

So, the best dog breed I’d be interested for. A quiet dog would be better for our girl and a vivid for the boy. But, if we choose a quieter canine, how long that will tolerate our boy? Vice versa, if we choose a vigorous one, how can you teach the dog not to jog her and to be more careful with her?

The dog wouldn’t be the kids’ property, but they would be together a lot. And, I wouldn’t want one of my kids didn’t love the dog, or wouldn’t be able to adapt to each other.

In the first place, we cannot decide on the male/female thing. Small or a bit bigger (pros and cons), relaxed or lively dog shall it be?

This summer I still do not work, that’s for sure. And the kids are home almost all day – after the break they come home at noon. So it can be a lot to deal with the canine.

After all, what would be the best dog breed for our family?

Teresa”

The Answer

Teresa, I appreciate that you’ve been addressed your question about the best dog breed for you to me. And I want to assure you that there are no silly questions. I value your detailed description about your situation.

I’m telling you, when the dog getting idea is aroused, you can choose from several options. You can take a purebred puppy, or a cute little mix. Or you can adopt even an adult dog from a shelter, for example. Whatever you choose is good to get to know the main advantages and disadvantages in the beginning.

I’d summarize your situation. You want a family dog which should be adaptive, easily trainable, quiet and vivid at the same time, obedient, and tolerable toward kids. You think that mainly your task would be to look after your prospective canine. You imagine the dog placement and keeping in your yard.

Anyway, the best dog breed – as a kind of – isn’t existed. Everyone has different needs, but all dogs can be perfect for someone. I think; three dog breeds would fit to your situation: the Bernese Mountain, the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. Which is why, let’s talking about one by one.

Why the Bernese Mountain Dog?

The characteristics of Bernese Mountain dog breed contain its peaceful nature, tenderness and true-hearted personality. This breed is very committed to the pack leader (you) as well as the family. In addition, you possibly can teach him without a problem.

This dog breed is trustworthy and gets along very well with your children. The Bernese tolerates the more hyperactive kid as well as  your daughter’s care giving. The Bernese is probably one of many amicable dogs you’ll discover in socialization action with your other household favorites.

What is more, it is a great watchdog, its large stature can be dissuaded alone. He rarely barks. I think a woman can “manage” it with adequate determination. You can read more about the Bernese Mountain breed here.

The Golden Retriever Can Be the Next Best Dog Breed for You

The Golden Retriever dog breed is an even-minded, affable canine. They’re inclined by nature to companionship with others. They possess a benign and biddable nature, sufficiently suppressed and completely tranquil. The barking isn’t its strong point.

The dogs belonging to this breed are quite intelligent and really desirous of work in the interests of you as the pack leader. The Golden Retriever dog can live fine with your other canines. Even so, the male species can coexist together with your other pet problem free. Of course, the early socialization helps you in that – in case you choose a puppy instead of adult dog.

A Golden Retriever is adored for your children’s companion. And, she is tolerating the small badness of kids. However, you must make sure that your children know where the limit is. To illustrate the good nature of this breed; she simply moves away if your children ‘sweat’ her extremely. Click here to read more about the Golden Retriever dog breed.

Lastly, Don’t Miss the Labrador Retriever

Under the assumption that your Labrador Retriever dog is trained, he can be very friendly and fairly obedient. This dog breed is excellent for being children’s mate, simply because their tolerance limit is high enough. The Lab is equipped with its times to becoming very calmed across your household.

However, he might end up being potent and strong if needed in no time. Usually, this breed is very loyal to its owner and is addicted to please you. He prefers to learn new trickeries as well as being an excellent candidate for obedience classes. Here is more knowledge about the Labradors.

Her’s one more aspect. It is not accidental that most of the guide dogs are Labrador or Golden. Namely, they should not ‘jog’ their handlers; they  instructed that way.

Besides these three breed posts I recommend you to read posts you find in my “Choosing” category. Anyway, as for male or female, I recommend you to choose a neutered male dog.

Best Dog Breed From a Shelter

I’m sure, already the pre-schoolers know that the dog is man’s best friend. Unfortunately, he is often a much better friend than as the man for him. That’s the reason of a significant number of ownerless dogs in shelters. Who needs a loyal companion and reliable friend, be sure to find it just right there.

An already developed dog just as devotedly will love you as if you knew him as a puppy. Moreover, this poor creature has tasted the bitter and dangerous side of life very well. So, he will appreciate the security you – the new owner – will provide him as a high value.

I’m saying this as a person who worked in a dog shelter voluntarily, and who keep shelter dogs more than three decades. I believe that you, partly will find an infinitely grateful and loyal companion. On the other hand, you’ll be exempted from the pup rearing nuisances. Think about the trivial but nerve-wracking – chewed, lacerated, dug up, stained, etc. – things.

Alternatively, the implicational cost of vaccinations, treatment of injuries, the puppy’s foods are more expensive, and alike. Anyway, by talking with a vet, your possible preconceptions may be dispelled. And I can assure you that shelter dogs aren’t used cars, which have definitely a flaw that is not in the new one.

All in all, I’m recommending you that after the born of dog buying idea, you talk to your veterinarian, the chosen dog’s breeders and owners, even more occasions. Be curious about the advantages and disadvantages as well, when seeking the best dog breed.

Because, believe me, a solely advantageous purchase does not exist. For consequences caused by your later discovered ignorance, it would be silly to blame the dog. After all, he is often the victim of the problem.

So, Teresa, I recommend you to study the above mentioned breeds and talk with breeders, trainers, shelter staffs and vets. That way, you will make a good decision. I hope; my post was a useful contribution to select the best dog breed for you.

Many successes, 🙂

Alex

Dehydration In Dogs and Consequences

When I wake up from sleep with dried mouth, I drink some water from the glass standing on my bedside table. A similar thing happened even then, when I was a feverish patient. Then I consumed more water or tea or fruit juice to replace the lost fluid volume and to avoid dehydration of my body. When it comes to dehydration in dogs, many people are uninformed about realize this serious problem in time. This article makes you better prepared to avoid the dehydration.

What Is the Dehydration Actually?

The human dehydration is the shortage of fluids in your body. That’s a process that starts when your body gives off more water than your intake. The dehydration usually causes an increase in the sodium level in your bloodstream.

Vomiting, diarrhea, excessive heat, fever, and decreased water consuming for any reason, is resulting in dehydration. The symptoms of dehydration in children may be a dry mouth and tongue, crying without tears, lethargy, and skin dryness.

Dehydration initially stimulates thirst center in your brain. This causes that you want to drink more fluids. If your water intake cannot keep up with the water loss, the dehydration becomes severe in your body. In this case, your body reduces the perspiration, and produces less urine.

If the fluid loss continues on the same extent, the drying out of body tissues will start. The cells begin to shrink and operate erroneously. The brain cells are most susceptible to dehydration include such major signs of severe dehydration of consciousness, coma is increased.

Refreshing-will-prevent-dehydration-in-dogsDehydration in dogs is most frequently the fluid loss involves together with minerals and vitamins such as chloride, sodium and potassium; collectively known as electrolytes. Dehydration in dogs also may be a consequence of some sickness, particularly if your doggie suffers by fever.

Consequences of Dehydration

The effect is similar when your pooch experiences excessive warmth, and some other elements. Our dog friend’s natural act is panting when he feels heat. That causes fluid loss. And that may lead to dehydration if – for some reason – he doesn’t consume water.

Namely, we need to bear in mind that our canines lack sweat glands (unlike the people) to minimize the risk of heat. They pant in order to help to regulate their physique temperature. So, your pooch (panting with his hanging tongue) is a warmed animal.

Whether it’s attributable to sickness, contact with heat, or plainly insufficient fluid consume, you should address the dehydration promptly. If you don’t handle it right away – it’s overlooked often as I observed – the chance of organ fiasco or death in your dog can be multiplied.

Sad to say, but dehydration in dogs can occur extremely easy. It is much simpler than quite a few animal owners think. But, be calm about my friend, it’s also easy to forestall this with sufficient attention. You just need to observe your doggie’s behavior and take steps you can towards treating.

Treating Dehydration In Dogs

If you think that your amazing dog is dehydrated, obtain some water instantly. And you should get him to your veterinarian without delay. Indications of dehydration can encompass improper resiliency to the skin, sunken and dry eyes, dry nose, along with a lack of saliva. Dogs are dehydrated may even end up with a slowdown of their capillary reload time. And the result can be the lassitude – as my vet said to me.

I propose a method to bring to light if your dog is dehydrated. You don’t have to do other than fondly pull your canine’s lip abstain from his gum. Then press your finger contrary to its gum so that the area becomes whiter. Take away your finger and see: the color of gum area should go back to the original nearly promptly.

If you see a slowdown in the color restoration, then that’s a sign of dehydration in dogs. The other checking method is grabbing the skin on the neck of your canine and squeeze it up a bit. If it remain wrinkled and will not recede into the normal mode, your animal is dehydrated.

Letting your dog drink water is the greatest way to replace the lost fluids. However, you shouldn’t allow your severely dehydrated dog to absorb lots at once. It may lead to vomiting and an additional loss of fluids. Instead make sure your dog drink tiny amounts in a period of time.

You can use a hydrating solution to replace the missing electrolytes. The Pedialyte (electrolyte and water combination) is a proven solution for babies in case of their dehydration. And, it also is appropriate for our dogs.

In fact, if your canine refuses to drink or appears dehydrated, you should show him to your vet. Your veterinarian will establish the diagnosis and recommend the right treatment. That step is very important because the dehydration can be a signal of another illness.

If your pet isn’t drinking voluntarily, you need to apply a clean, needleless plastic syringe. Administer the hydrating solution drink in small doses at once to the mouth. Make sure that your doggie ingests that little amount always.

I suggest you consult your vet if symptoms persist, if your animal is deteriorating, or if the condition became serious.

How Am I Preventing the Dehydration In My Dogs

Prevent-dehydration-in-dogs-by-providing-fresh-water I always had the basic principle; prevention is much better than handling any developed problem. Ergo, I always strived to give my dogs enough and fresh drinking water. If you visited my dogs, you would realize that at least one bowl is full with fresh water all the times.

We have quite a large yard and garden. Consequently, I don’t keep our dogs in a kennel, and they aren’t chained as well. And there are four different places giving a nice shady spot for our dogs in the summer heat. Those also help them to check equally the gates and doors and the life outside the fence.

And the water bowls are under the shadow as well. Despite that, we change the water oftentimes to make sure coolness. Furthermore, I use to wash their bowls daily to avoid developing bacteria. I think; the frequent cleaning  is particularly important in summer’s heat.

When I change the water I observe the amount they consumed. Usually, the average daily water consumption of my dogs is around one-ounce water per their pounds in weight. Anyway, observing water consuming is particularly essential if your pooch is recovering from ailments like vomiting or diarrhea.

When I go to walk with them or exercise, I bring along a water bottle in the warmer periods. I use to drink from that and give water to my dogs in a collapsible bowl. When we are traveling, I put enough home water into our car that caters to the needs during the trip. This way, they aren’t forced to drink a who knows what kind of water on the go.

Fortunately, dehydration in dogs is a unknown concept before me because I keep myself to my principles. In my last advices, I’d speak to those of you who are living in a hot and dry climate zone. If your dogs are sensible breeds, keep them air-conditioned-inside as much as your circumstances allow.

My other suggestion to prevent the dehydration in dogs is to supply them moisturized foods. I’m following this practice for quite a long time with success. I do wash their eating bowl after every feeding. You know; doing the little work is worthy to keep my dogs in good health.

The Rottweiler Dog as Defender Champion 2

My Opinion

Due to being in connection with different dog owners I know some Rottweiler dog. So my advices based on my observations. Before you buy a Rottweiler dog or the adoption comes across your mind, it wouldn’t hurt doing a thorough self-examination, and some environmental studies.

Are you really suitable for Rottweilers? Are you able to provide something special living conditions? Are you intended to spend enough time to dealing with it properly? And, of course, it’s not incidental how you will come out with the dog. It may happen you want a Rottweiler in vain for years if neither you, nor your conditions aren’t suitable for keeping this breed.

So, first of all, you must get to know this breed. It’s advisable to read related literature, to consult owners, to talk to breeders. In short, prepare yourself in every respect. At least as important to know yourself, be aware of your capabilities, know exactly why you want a Rottweiler dog.

This dog breed is working basically as a guard dog, his abilities predestine him to that firstly. It has all the necessary basic skills that you can bring to the surface with prudent and competent training easily. Due to its versatility and docility, he’s capable of exploit his values in other fields as well.

However, to achieve these, this dog needs a clear requirement and a strong and firm handed but fair leader. It’s also important that you bring the puppy into his new possible permanent home in its 8-9-week of age.

This way, by raised him beside the owner and family, you can prevent or eliminate many future problems. I firmly believe that those owners are clearly responsible for Rottweiler accidents during the past, who chose rashly and treated without savvy this breed.

Snowing, Running, Visitors and Bones

Bow-Wow Everyone,

I’m back, my friends. I hope your doggie days passes pleasant ways: with nice walking, much playing with your beloved pack leader, you’re getting fine dog food and the atmosphere of love surrounds you.

You know, I can not complain about the way things are going on here. 20 cm snow fell again to us at beginning the week … and the howling wind erected blockages … here and there … and I enjoyed running around happily. I’m still panting … when dictating this letter … bow-wow.

Well … I calmed down now and can talk continuously. Imagine, I have had visitors; several cheeky blackbirds came to my area and hopped around my favorite pine tree. I could not catch either one, but scared them away. You can see here, as I’m sniffing their traces.

Other visitors also were previously at a pleasant summer time. I remember an unusual, long and thin, winding creature – imagine that slid its tongue out and went by gliding on the ground, without any leg. I barked at it as a mad dog, and my pack leader came out of his house and said me don’t hurt it because it’s a harmless grass snake.

Another case was when a thorny animal came into our yard in the night though the fence which separates the yard from the garden. I noticed the intruder, wanted to sniff it, but it stabbed my nose.

Ouch! I became furious, barked at it loudly to warn my family. That animal didn’t move throughout my barking, except it became a spiky ball which couldn’t be played with.

My pack leader came into the spot in his pajamas and grabbed that animal with thick gloves and put it into the garden. He said, that was a hedgehod. Anyway, that animal went away in peace.

Well … I got a nice piece of boneevery dog’s dream – from my master the other day. You know, it was well cooked and it smelled the way I like it. I spent a lot of time with that dessert, and dug the remainder in a safe place for chewing it next time.

You know; every dog likes to make reserve for rainy days, and I hope you are doing similarly, too. Oh, I remember the taste. So, I’m going to go to excavate that and continue the chewing right away. You’re not mad at me that I’ll don’t give you from it, right?

Bow-Wow friends,

Zizi

Komondor – the Hungarian Shepherd Dog

The Komondor is one of the ancient Hungarian shepherd dog breeds. He stands out with his dignified appearance among the other species. It’s that kind of sheepdog, which has headship in guarding the animals of the Magyar ancestors. You can understand this wonderful animal better by reading further.

My Encounter With the Komondor

You know, I was born in a big city of the Great Hungarian Plain, but I have spent my childhood in a village. At the end of our street lived a big mustached herdsman. His fence was three times higher than me. It was a bit mysterious for me, so I asked my grandparents why that fence is so high?

Komondor-the-Hungarian-Shepherd-dog

They told me that there’s a big dog. I forgot this and once I went thoughtfully along that fence when a deep rumbling bow-wow startled me suddenly. I was so frightened that my heart almost jumped out of my chest.

The sound belonged to a big dirty-light-gray colored, knotted-haired dog, a Komondor. Probably,  I don’t have to say how much I tried to keep myself away from that fence after this incident. So far the story. Are you curious; what kind of dogs are they and where did they come from?

The Origin

The origins of the Komondor dog breed date back to the bygone. Before the conquest, the semi-nomadic Magyar ancestors mainly dealt with livestock besides agriculture. They pastured their animals in the common grazing grounds at that time.

That wasn’t harmless then; therefore, they have different dogs to carry out the defending and herding tasks. This sheepdog served the people taking care of the animals since ancient times.

Namely, this dog had no other task than guarding and protecting against robbers and predators, together with the Kuvasz. It’s also true, that his nature and physical endowments predestined him to meet these challenges.

The livestock was most precious assets for nomadic pastoral communities. Therefore, the Komondor defended equally the people’s life and their property. His great stature and commanding appearance, as well as exceptional speed and relentless fighting skills were dangerous for even the hardest enemy, too.

The extreme climate of Central-Asian and European Grasslands and the shepherd’s hard and ruthless selection were equally contributed to develop this breed. Namely, the shepherds bred the bravest and strongest species of the litter only. The others were selected out.

His large and special coat gave the Komondor perfect protection. Partly against the summer hot around plus 30 Celsius degrees and the winter cold minus 30 Celsius. This coat was beneficial in other ways too. Namely it was his armor in the battles against the wolves and bears.

The shepherds kept this animal in high esteem as a loyal companion. Along with, they worked hard to keep this breed’s value. When spring came, the shepherds trimmed this dog, like the sheep. Consequently, his appearance was accidentally comparable to the Kuvasz, the other Hungarian defender sheepdog.

This random similarity could have led to some mix-ups in denomination, sometimes. Nevertheless, the fact is that the shepherds never crossed each other the two large Hungarian sheepdog breed; the Komondor and the Kuvasz.

How Does This Dog Look Like?

Among all the Hungarian herding breed, this is the one who indicated cultivated forms even in the earliest times. This is the only breed that changed the least throughout times. The interesting thing is that these dogs – in spite of wandering of the ancient Magyars – preserved their temperament and abilities.

The Komondor is a big dog. The size of his head is harmonically proportional to the body. The canine’s back is tight, short and very well muscled. His ivory-white long hair covers his body to an extent that you aren’t able to see his eyes at all. But, rest assured my friend, he sees you.

This animal has a very muscular neck. You cannot find dewlap there. His front legs seem as pillars and covered with shaggy hair. Its groin is medium length. The stem is wide and slightly sloping. The tail hanging down when he’s relaxing. But, he’s lifting that to the back’s line in listening posture.

This animal has large and compact foot. His coat is long, ribbon, felt-like, corded, shaggy, and slightly shorter on the head. The whole appearance of this dog commands respect; he has a very impressive sight.

And you wouldn’t think but despite his relative large body and long coat, his movement is graceful. His step is long-drawn, convenient and cushy.

The Komondor’s Behaviour

For thousands of years, this dog has guarded the assigned animals. And didn’t asked help then, just like today. Since he isn’t flattering and doesn’t hold caress too much, therefore, his teaching isn’t easy. Mainly, for those of you who don’t know this breed.

The safe-keeping service is in his blood, you don’t have to teach that to him. He has protective instinct and big demand for movement. Therefore, I don’t think he is suitable to a flat at all. Generally, he rests in the daytime, though his attention doesn’t escape on anything.

At night, however, the terrain is in his possession; he does regular patrolling. Although he isn’t barking much, has a response to every sound. The Komondor attacks fast and overwhelmingly, without a sound. He keeps the protected area as his own and doesn’t allow foreign creatures there.

This dog doesn’t makes friendship with strangers. Therefore, this special dog is suitable for any property preservation safely. His impressive dimensions, weight and incredible speed make him capable. He is unwaveringly courageous, and you cannot bribe him.

He protects you and your property in all circumstances. He is uncon-ditionally devoted to his master. But – along with this – he has a stand-alone personality. This dog is a faithful animal for one owner. So it’s difficult to bear for him an owner-changing in his adult ages.

He likes children and tolerates a lot from them. I had my little son ride on the back of one of them. This animal reaches the full maturity relatively late, around his three years of age.

I should WARN you! You should NOT tie the Komondor in chains. That thing subverted him from original temperament, and he will be very rude. Of course, his rudeness makes perfect sense in these circumstances. And you should NOT punish this dog without any reason!

Conclusion

You cannot find more imposing, and courageous companion and better watchdog than the Komondor is. His nature and form showed the same shape thousands of years ago just as today. Indeed, thanks to his unique appearance, he’s a frequent player of the dog exhibitions.
